Zappa is more jazz this is like hard funky psychedelic rock, Bernie is more suited than Zappa for this style of music. But, Zappa would enjoy this a lot for how goofy he was.

Even if Metallikatz had picked Les I don't think it would have worked out for 3 reasons: 1. Stylistically, Les more funky and dynamic than Metallica's limited arsenal 2. Les would have ultimately been repulsed by the macho metal scene especially those shows with Guns n Roses where everyone was trying to outcool the other 3. Les own creative expressions yearning to break free but James frowns on solo projects

improvisation is the coolest thing to do as a musician, for me anyway. these guys take it to a place that has no limits , its like pushing through a level of pain or super sensitive discomfort, but if you can hang on and ride it out it gets so good to you its bliss, what a amazing group of guys doing what they can do , digging deeper than the hole has earth to dig, thats deep.

Yup, Les and Brain are almost telepathic with their playing. Which makes sense since they've been playing together off and on since 1988 when, after the original Primus drummer Jay Lane left the band, Brain was supposed to take his place as the drummer in the band. But, he had to leave really soon after breaking his foot, and was replaced with Herb. But, Brain eventually rejoined Primus in 1996 and recorded a couple of albums with them. In addition to that, he's been in multiple side-projects with Les and has even been on a few of his solo albums. So, their playing together is absolutely next level.

@@setupdept3147 I agree that Bernie was awesome and added an amazing quality to the jam sessions here.. but as was shown in "The Ballad of Buckethead", the album "Monsters and Robots", and many different jam sessions between Claypool and Bucket; they r most definitely capable of creating a new masterpiece of an album on their own (even with a different drummer.. although Brain would be my first choice.. then Tim "Herb" Alexander, then Jay Lane, in that order lol)..

I love Brain and Tim Alexander both but I think I prefer Tim with Primus and Brain with Bucket of Bernie Brains and his work on Buckethead solo stuff! The one thing I would have to say though that his drumming in Primus was stellar as well AntiPop was a phenomenal album!
