Sounds like the private contractor hired by the state of Colorado to collect these tickets is raking in the $. What a scam.

I got a ticket for crossing out of the Express Lane because there was a DOT vehicle in the lane doing maintenance and had a neon sign with an arrow directing commuters out of the Express Lane. Luckily I have a DashCam and was able to prove that I was in the right. They don't even check... seems that the system just generates the ticket and no one vets that the incident merits a ticket. Im sure that if I didn't have my dash cam it would have turned out that I cannot prove it and would have had to pay the fine.

I have been ticketed/fined for tolls a few times in the last year and I haven't been in Co. for 18 years

So they use taxpayer dollars to pay for the highways and pay for the construction of these tolls and then they want us to pay more to use the toll roads 😂😂😂😂😂

It's time to ban tolls roads in Colorado...We have to stop selling our roads to foreign companies who tax the poor and middle class just to get to work on time.

They need to renegotiate the contract. The state should be getting the lion's share of the fines, not the company. In any case, toll lanes next to non toll lanes is ridiculous.

More money is made on the collections than the tolls themselves. We Coloradoians ALL had a chance to prevent it.

More and more of these shared revenue ticking systems are showing up around the country. This is a horrible trend.

If you go to court and make them produce the video evidence of the violation you will negate any money they are making from this crap. I plan to stay out of Colorado myself. You know they aren't the only state with mountains.

I just looked up the Colorado express way safety protocol and there is absolutely no reason to have double white line dotted anywhere other than to trick drivers into thinking it is okay to leave or enter at this point to generate a profit. People should sue. As far as I can tell they don’t even list a reason for it on the website.

What it looks like is the system is extremely sensitive and there is no one checking the system or any oversight, what they hope will happen is that you will get pay the bill.

If it can track who crosses over...then they can simply charge people for using the lane. The fine is nothing but a $ generating program. Moreover....it cannot be because it is dangerous as it is not dangerous to change back and forth among all the other lanes all thru those stretches.

You can't get a ticket if your license plate isn't visible. The fine amounts are absurd, it could be a $10 fine and still have the same effect. The other issue is how this fine was legalized, CDOT signed away their rights to manage fines to a private company with the only rule being fines can't be over $250 dollars. There's no other public review of fines on those toll lanes.

Jacksonville Fl has the same system. Except you cannot enter the toll lanes without knowing it. Collapsible double white line sticks.

I'm glad they're doing this. I've already had a near miss from one jerk crossing the double line into the express lane.

Also might help if they put up signs saying photo enforced. Right now there is only notice of the fine.

As a NYer, I was thinking toll-weaving had to do with toll booths (boy, do we have them in spades here). If I understand your road design, those are express lanes and in order to drive in them, one has to pay the toll for doing so. Otherwise, you stay in the non-tolled lanes and just cruise on down the road. We have HOV lanes, so no tolls for them, but the same concept exists as to not crossing the double-white lines to go in or out of the HOV lane. I don't want to give any ideas to the various DOTs about using cameras for catching folks doing so, as we already have speed cameras and red-light cameras, not to mention the whole EZPASS tolling system for the bridges and tunnels. And our gov just kicked the congestion pricing tax down the road, so those cameras are not being used at the moment (all of us cynics here truly expect her to say Turn them on on Nov 6th). So how does one fight the bobbing and weaving camera tickets? Are there a few photos per summons that show you before, during, and after the crime? Our red light cameras do show the progression. Speed cameras we have to take them on faith.

I would never pay these tickets. I would sue.

There are spots where you can conveniently pass back and forth to avoid the larkspur area traffic and it has ZERO cameras...or the engineers have yet to solve the ticketing blind spots. I won't tell where they are, but if you are a good, attentive driver. You can find the spots pretty quick.. lol

Not just Colorado, it's happening around the country in states like Florida. I am old school and I would never have allowed private, profit seeking contractors into law enforcement or corrections. The fourth Amendment has been run over here for profit.🤑

I received a toll charge from Colorado after returning from a vacation. I still have no idea where this toll road was. I do remember at least one toll road that I did pay for was very deceptive and confusing and I was barely able to get in the toll lane at the last second.

The toll lanes are a stupid idea! The traffic on the road itself travels faster than the toll lane.

They make a big fuss about this event but totally ignore the many drivers with expired registrations (often 6 months or more). And then taxpayers paid for those lanes and get screwed to use them.

Colorado should make the double white lines double yellow lines. Out of state drivers would not know that you can't cross double white lines.

For this and several other reasons, I'll not travel through Colorado ever again.

Hmmm...company I work for got hit with a $250 ticket for a first offense on that specific vehicle. What happened there? I hope they challenged it. I don't disagree with the idea behind the ticket, I drive for a living and the roads are crazy, now I just wonder why it's was a different fine.

So look into this. If you buy gas and pay the road use tax then you get on a toll road and are paying to drive on it is there a form that you can send to the state to get your money back for road use. You are actually paying twice. You shouldn't have to pay road tax and pay to drive on the toll road.

Demand that you face your accuser in court. When they say its a machine and you cant, demand the ticket be thrown out on Constitutional grounds and KEEP APPEALING ALL THE WAY TO THE SUPREME COURT.

Colorado's highest toll rates in the Nation, equates to EXTORTION, especially the collection agency that charges $100 in penalties for a $1.80 toll fee.

Fort Collins has a newish express lane on I25. People use the express lane like any other lane...crossing the big double white line as if it was a normal lane marker. They cross in, they cross out....at will whenever they want. Fine them and keep fining them. Ban all road tolls, though.

Take 'em to court and have them show the video. If there's any doubt make them show their hand.

Someone should look into this, because that seems like an unreasonably high amount, and people should not have to have dash cameras to prove anything. Corporate greed over anything else anymore. I hope someone with some money and a good attorney takes these people to court. I would be curious if the so called violations happen at certain locations and certain times a day. I have seen many instances where people are forced in or out of those things because of accidents or other things, and they just do not care.

This reeks of being a money grab scenario. The state has created a bunch of slightly sketchy laws/rules around toll roads / toll lanes, and in doing so has created a “honey pot” trap for tickets. No doubt, the contractor that is responsible for issuing the tickets makes a nice little profit off each one they issue - so they have every incentive in the world to issue more of those tickets.

Educate with TV Ads? How about large signs at the Express Exits. And the company running the cameras have a sweetheart deal. They raked in ~$14 Million, for pulling reports and running batch letters.

Living in Texas, I remember when we had one toll road in the whole state. I made a vow then to never drive on a toll road unless there was no other way to get there. This convinces me that there is now another reason to stay the hell out of doped up, mountain fever migrant hugging Colorado!

I have no sympathy for these folks. I constantly see people using it as a passing lane and making aggressive maneuvers in and out of it, particularly during periods of high traffic. People are definitely lying about it. Not to mention there was a massive grace period where they put signs all over and didn't enforce it, while only sending warnings. The signage is also very clear. Pleading ignorance isn't a valid strategy. People are just mad cause they thought they wouldn't get caught.
