Great demo. Will be trying this. Does it need to be sealed to prevent smudging, or does the acrylic paint finish do that? I'm going to experiment.

How come no one answers the copyright concern when using images from magazines and incorporating them into your own work.....
@TitianTopsyTurvy
@TitianTopsyTurvy 4 жыл бұрын
Reproduction and sale of this sort of artwork would infringe the photographer's/brand owner's copyright. However if no money changes hands and as I said it is not reproduced in some way (photocopy etc) to be distributed en masse then it is doubtful copyright infringement would be persued. It ultimately depends on how recognisable the original (copyrighted) image is within the artwork.

Being able to selling your work is the reason I asked the question. I think it is important for anyone who is learning these techniques with the intention of being able to earn money to understand that is copyright infringement. Thanks for the replies.

I use the time while the transfer print is drying to remove crud from the background, printing, smudges, page numbers etc that I don't want to see in the final print. My favorite wipe is called "Wet Ones" It leaves no lint, has a pleasant, mild scent. I have best success when I remove the transfer fairly soon after placing the paper down, and taking my time to remove the paint after I've altered the print. The paint needs time to be absorbed into the paper, and to pick up everything. I love using parts of images so there's no copyright issues.

Susan Gantz i tried this with three different kinds of paints. I tried it with computer paper, cardstock and watercolor paper. I tried cleaning my Geli plate. I tried thin layers of paint and thick layers of paint. I tried lifting it quickly after burnishing, and tried letting it sit. I only once got the *barest* of a ghost of an outline. What am I doing wrong??

Janartable wish I lived near you and we could play. I honestly don’t know, except there’s a sweet spot, and there’s no way except doing to figure it out. I can tell you I’ve tried to print the same pic from two calendars and one work perfectly, the other not at all.

Birgid Hoffeld I’m sorry that we don’t speak German. I only speak 3 languages of all the hundreds of languages there are in the world and I’m sorry I can’t do videos in all those languages. But, that is why there is written text so if you don’t understand you could use google translate. Which I did to translate your comment 😉

Thumbs up for a great print! However, did you copy this technique from Jane Davenport? I guess her Gelli Plate is made by the same company, it just seems like she should get credit if she came up with it. If she didn’t, I apologize! Again, really beautiful print!
@birgitkoopsen
@birgitkoopsen 4 жыл бұрын
osofine no I didn’t. Jane learned from me that she could use her alcohol marker and pastels on the gel plate when she took my class in July 😊. And the image transfer technique is something I discovered quite a while ago and made a video about last year. Happy you like the print! Thanks!

Birgit Koopsen I sincerely apologize! I can’t quite believe I even wrote that comment... I don’t know what I was thinking other than that JD had just recently done videos demonstrating the use of her pastels on the plate and then yours popped up on my notifications. 🤦‍♀️ I have been going through a very difficult time health wise (and was on medication that day) and with family drama, but that’s still no excuse. I’ve watched many of your videos and learned so much... I have watched lots (!) of videos on gelli printing this year and yours are exemplary. I wish I could take a workshop with you! It’s been obvious since I first discovered you for myself that you are a master of the subject and a fantastic artist. Everyone shares techniques whether in workshops, books, or here on KZfaq, which is particularly generous for people like me who can’t afford to attend classes at this point in my life (I do find it interesting, and not at all surprising, that most of the artists who teach and share their techniques are women! but that is a topic for another time). I would like to delete my original comment, but I want to be sure that you read this! Respectfully Yours, osofine

osofine don’t worry about it! Sometimes it is hard to know where people got their ideas and who was first. And I appreciate that you stand up for what you think is right! I sometimes would love people to do that when others are using my techniques without credit. So thank you for that. Happy to hear that you love my videos and I hope that I will continuously be able to inspire you!
