I've read reviews where people complained that Mission Gold's colors are overall "too vibrant, like markers not watercolor". Personally, I can't imagine why you would shy away from high chroma colors even if you love the watered-down pastel look of watercolors - just add more water. The Mission Gold Perm Magenta continues to be my favorite of these, not only for the bright clean mixes you show here, but because the tube lasts me forevvvvvver. I can dilute it so much, as just a tiny bit of this color goes a long way in mixes. Thank you for getting me excited about specific colors again, this series really helps me realize which colors I most enjoy creating with.

I cannot agree with you more Kimberly. Quins are suppose to be super bright, just like the phthalos. I don't think Mission Gold's one is particularly brighter than other quin magentas, it's just a much nicer hue that is clean.

I really wish you had organized this using pigments instead of names as they range so crazily across brands. I wasn't at all surprised that your PV19's would work differently to the other pigments and I think it might help beginning artists if you spent a minute in all of these comparisons talking about the major pigments used in these "name" comparisons. ALso, I'd highly suggest checking out Daniel Smith's Quinacridone Lilac (new in 2017) as it was Daniel Smith FINALLY getting a PR122 -- which is what most brands label "Quin Magenta." I HIGHLY prefer it to what Daniel Smith is calling "Quin Magenta."

Estrafalario I really appreciate your thoughts on the series. However, if you’d like comparisons by pigments, Denise from In Liquid Color has been doing excellent series comparing colors by pigments. For me to do a color comparison by pigment would render this series a copy of her work. If you’d prefer a comparison by pigment code I would highly recommend her series instead.

I agree, the joy from putting paint to paper is a key element in choosing a brand of paint. (And good paper helps!)

I agree that I prefer to use DS Quin Rose as my (warmer) magenta color!! I like that your reviews are so detailed, however some of the reasons I prefer one version of a pigment over another is how it reacts with water (i.e. dispersion) and with other pigments, so often do very different tests to decide. PR122, PR202 and PV19 all tend to act differently on the page.

I also use Daniel Smith's quin rose as my primary magenta color, but that Mission Gold quin magenta is calling me now, it's so pretty. Thank you for doing this series!

Hi Oto. I have QOR Quin magenta and as I use it for mixing mostly or very strong or very light on its own, I like it very much. I have Quin rose in m Graham also. Really like the mixes I get with the QOR. It has very good strength, a little goes a long way and I never clean it off my mixing area. Just rewet. Thanks Oto. Take care.😁💜

I've been keeping *a* PV19 and *a* PR122 on my palettes without really keeping track of which is DS, Holbein, or WN, because I'm terribly irresponsible, and I was wondering how much of a difference it makes, since when I just test the three brands' paints of the same pigment, they're pretty indistinguishable. But if the WN vs. Holbein makes that much of a difference in tinting, I'll stick to WN from now on, so thanks~ (I use a ton of bright purples ^_^; ) PV19 is always tricky, though, so I use a lot less of it...

Ich liebe Qinacridone Magenta von Qor, eben weil es so schlecht abzulösen ist. Bisher gab es wesentlich weniger Schwierigkeiten mit Wasserkontrolle als hier angedeutet. Da sich das Pigment gerne explosionsartig in nasse Flächen verteilt und dabei Farben anderer Marken verdrängt, bin ich allerdings mittlerweile recht vorsichtig, wenn ich es einsetze. An und für sich liebe ich diese Farbe unheimlich.

mission gold magenta - that I wanted to see for my expressive florals. I will add this to a small selection of paints, just for that. but I must add, that is not, what one wants e.g. in landscapes, but still one needs a colour like this magenta for some effects, mixes, sky tones. a very bright one - even in a mix, can be troublesome and not, what looks good in a compositions. so. as always - it depends :-)

I haven't tried Mission Golds PR122 but their Permanent Rose PV19 is my favorite quin rose so I'm not surprised to see that! QoRs PR122 has always been my favorite PR122 despite it's lack of control :)

I commented previously but went to edit it the other day... apparently I deleted my comment, so here I try again.... Thank you so much for the comparison videos Oto. They are incredibly helpful and I’m so grateful. I have the mission gold version, so now I’m even happier with it ( I was fortunate enough to receive the new version of the pure pigment set for Christmas)! It’s always interesting & useful to see these comparisons. May I ask, at one point can you do a brand comparison between Perylene violets or Perylene Maroons ( or both 🤷‍♀️) if you have time? Ever since I saw your Perylene Maroon vs Perylene violet comparison video, I’ve fallen in love it!!! Thank you so much again, and glad to hear you are sounding better. Edit... i did replace my mission gold yellow ochre #2... transparent ochre by Schmincke and yellow ochre by holbein... thank you so much for that comparison :) )

I have Holbein right now. But when I need a refill, I think I will get Winsor and Newton. Did you use a tube or pan for the Winsor and Newton?

This is probably a silly question, but what were you using for cyan in your colour mixing?

I use phthalo blue yellow or green shade :) They're the same color, just different brands like to call it yellow shade or green shade.

Schmincke quin Majeta is also PR122 not PR202 PR 202 is quin majeta from DS now new companies introduce this pigment like Mission gold and REmbrandt..but not schmincke
