A colour analysis session is a once-off experience to discover your colours for life.
A palette is a collection of colours that emphasise your natural chromatic characteristics, making you look radiant and healthy. Colour analysis identifies your personal palette by examining your natural characteristics (undertone, intensity and value).
A colour analysis session will make you discover something new about yourself and give you the knowledge to shop less and better and to improve your wardrobe and style.

I liked the comment below about the authenticity of a lady. I can totally underline that. Last month I did a online color analysis session with Giulia and it was basically like stepping into her KZfaq video. Very thorough preparation and clear walk trough. Also she chose colors different from the videos, where I could find myself looking very good instantly - and I did not like the color before 😂. You girls are a blessing. Really helping by practice, not only talking talking talking. Many sponsors will follow, you found your niche! bravo 🎉

Allegedly there is a quote from Coco Chanel. Along the lines of: If the dress is right you will notice the woman, else you will notice the dress. (In my language we have the saying of the dress / or the coat / suit is wearing you.- Either it is too large or the colour is too intense).

I agree! So interesting. I wonder why that is! Like scientifically what’s happening as our eye observes cool layered on warm vs warm layered on cool, and what’s the difference?
@jennifercarter1265
@jennifercarter1265 Жыл бұрын
@@Daymickey I think it's because a cool undertone has blue/purple in it, and yellow/orange is opposite on the color wheel. So on a cool person, the yellow/orange contrasts and makes the blue/purple look more blue/purple and the yellow/orange look more yellow/orange. The result is that Guilia's skin looked bruised and ashy against the orangey makeup. Additionally, the eye will perceive the warmer colors first. In the video, when I saw Guilia in the warm colors, all I could see was orange. And I do think you would see the same impact on the flipside-- someone with strong warm undertones would look jaundiced in blue-purple colors. A major difference with Alessandra's makeup was that by applying pinks and purple-pinks, and her natural colors are orangey-reds, she was really creating an analogous color scheme (red-orange, red, red-purple). When you have an analogous color scheme, it draws your eye toward the middle of the spectrum of colors (in this case, the red). I think if Alessandra had put on indigo eyeliner with a shimmery icy pink eyeshadow and lipstick that leaned more magenta you would have seen the same effect on her (whereas on Guilia it would be dramatic but not over-the-top). On most cool people, the toxic colors really are clustered around the yellow-orange, orange, and red-orange space on the color wheel. There's also a general trend right now toward monochromatic or analogous color palettes, and neutral colors. All the browns, tans, khakis, etc fall into that orangey space. The cool neutrals usually aren't really variants of the cool colors. But if you put a warm person in slate, indigo and pale mauve, it would look just as bad as a cool person in rich brown, pumpkin and tomato.

@@Daymickey It might be also because in general warm tones look healthier and more robust, especially springs. Cool toned skin is more prone to dark circles, redness, capillaries etc. I’d say warm tones might look cartooney or clownish in wrong Colors, whereas cools are more prone to appear unhealthy or tired.

Yep, the rookie analysis, your hair and / or eye colour is xxx so you must be yyy type. There are even cool true red heads (even though they are very rare), many but not all freckled persons are warm types, and there are blond winter types (again not that common, and if so they will have natural platin blonde hair). And no, a person of color (Afrian descent very dark skin) still can have a warm or cool undertone - even though that distinction becomes less important, right intensity will be more crucial for looking good). IF a person fits the common colour combinations (certain hair and eye colours for certain types are indeed more common) it will come out soon enough. However typecasting too soon also takes away from really SEEING the effects of the fabric swatches on the skin and the appearance of the face. The armchair colour analysts do not have swatches of fabrics to quickly change between two shades of a white, blue or red. Which makes it visible even for the untrained eye. When I would not know them - looking at Giulia I would suspect she could be an autumn or a winte. But for an analysis one must have a fresh eye and an unbiased perception (as opposed to a preconceived notion like this person must be yyy. If she truly is, it will come out in the process and one will SEE it). As for Alessandra If she would be treating her (regularily occuring) redness as PART of her natural colouring - I would even test some blue / green / grey summer colours on her. Yes they take a bit of colour away from her - which means the redness would be reduced to being a bit rosy. That could be quite flattering and she could go without the corrective foundation. Which CHANGES her natural face colour a lot. I like that they cover the hair with a white scarf in the first round (an Irish style consultant Sarah Ryan, TheStyleConsultant uses a transparent shower cap, which is even better *) so in the first round hair colour does not matter. * A white scarf (when the walls are also white) reflects the most light. However it could be a bit harsh on some persons (if they are soft springs or autumn types). In the shower cap the hair does not take up a lot of surface AND the clear plastic dulls down the natural hair colour significantly - but it is not reflective. Whether bright white suits a person (or not at all) we will not show up in the world covered with a bright white head covering. So the shower cap allows to fully cocentrate on the face (no distraction by hair, which can be coloured anyway) w/o introducing an element that does not occur in the real world.

Great explanation ladies. SO many people get confused with foundation. I am a light spring, so suit warm toned colour makeup for lips, eyes and cheeks BUT have very pale porcelain skin with cool tones, so need a pink based cool foundation. So many people assume a warm palette means a yellow tone foundation, or if you need a cool toned foundation you should wear cool toned colour makeup on eyes, cheeks and lips.

@franziskani
@franziskani 6 ай бұрын
That is even true for fabrics. When venturing outside the subgroup or season, shiny / sparkly or matte can allow you to wear certain colours. An intense colour will be less overwhelming when it comes in form of a wool sweater (matte, and the surface is more unevene than a woven fabric, it absorbs more light and the colour is not quite as dominant). Summer types might pull off black - if there is a wider neckline (so the colours next to the face are hair, skin of the decolletée, maybe some jewelry, plus the colours of the make-up. They better wear some colour in the face - at least mascara and lipstick - to increase the contrasts in their face to balance out the (too) dark colour. Even better if the black fabric is light (fabric weight) and shiny or has a pattern (can be a pattern in itself like some satins, or non-black flowers on a black background). It is (mostly) black - but not as heavy as for instance a matte uniform black wool or cotton fabric.

I know a lot about make up and I know my season, but I always struggled to understand why I am picking a more yellowy concealer and foundation, and why my skin looks yellowish/more golden despite having a cool undertone. Now I understand that the way my skin appears (overtone) is something different, and it makes sense why I am not going with the pinkish foundations or concealers, because they look wrong on me. Pink may be a cool overtone, but it doesn't go with mine because my overtone is warmer. This was incredible to finally be able to understand. Thank you!

OMG I just had a big realization moment. I've always been indecisive between winter and autumn because cool colors DEFINITELY look better on me, I look yellowish sick and tired on most warm colors while cool colors make me look brighter and with a cleaner appearance. But my foundation is olive warm (because the cool foundations tend to be pinkish and that's not my skin color) but what you said about the overtone makes so much sense. Also I have autumn eyes, hazel green just like Julia's but still I can't pull warm makeup because it looks so disconnected.... Now I know I'm winter for sure. This was so informative.

For the analysis the hue (cool or warm) is important but ALSO the right intensity of the colours. I think that (as a rule of thumb) the intensity becomes more important for people that have a skin that is dark or darker. If they have very dark skin, intensity becomes more important than the hue (very visible with the dark model - see the video - that is a bright winter and can easily stray into bright spring territory. Bright orange looked great on her. It is astonishing that a cool type could wear orange ! But she can. The effect was also somewhat visible on the partner of Alessandra, he is the Mediterranean type. (An autumn if I remember correctly - warm for sure) Maybe you would call him olive. He is warm too, but he can stray a bit. I have pale skin, with a faint pinkish undertone but also a grey untertone. The latter is not flattering at all, and I cannot afford to wear anything with a yellow or beige hue. If I wear the wrong hue (warm, even only a bit, like cream) I look sickly. I also have to pay attention to intensity because a too bright colour can overwhelm my low contrast / intensitiy, I am very likely a cool summer type. And pastells do not look good either (not enough for me to create visual interest). If anything than light blue or green - so the cool colours if they are not too light. However I can venture into cool winter or even dark winter. My understanding of that: if the colour complements my specific skin tone / undertone very well, I can get away with more intensity. It is like I can borrow colour and visual interest from a more intensely coloured garment - that is technically outside of my palette. Dark violett, dark forest green, dark teal, turquoise, and charcoal - these are really good on me. Even royal blue (with some make-up - this is borderline, I need a summer tan for that and some make-up on eye and lips). A person with a darker skin that has also a (subtle) cool undertone could wear some warm (or warmER colours - it is relative to other colours) and still look good. And the other way round. If they have some grey undertones - it does not necessarily show (because there are many other and more pigments compared to my pale skin). So they do not have to be as mindful of the hue. And they can afford to lose some colour The two Italians often say during the draping: "This drape takes colour away from your face." Or: "It makes your skin look a bit more grey". If you have darker skin, darker eyes, darker brows and lashes ... you start from a higher level. You can afford to lose some w/o looking bad / washed out right away. Maybe the out of palette colour does something else for you, that is also flattering (even though it is not ideal for your undertone). This created the confusion around the boyfriend of Giulia. He (a caucasian) has good natural colouring and contrast. He is warm spring but some of the summer colours looked good on him (dusty medium dark pink, some blue and green drapes). Why ? The drapes did make his skin colour a bit more grey - but with his good natural colouring he could afford that. Plus these "wrong" summer colours highlighted his bright blue eyes very nicely (and he had a pink on his lips and cheeks - naturally I do not think that was make-up. Plus a nice golden tan). So the pink drape also looked good on him (and also highlighted the eyes). So he lost some and he got some and net result was not bad at all. In a second video (for clarificiation) he showed outfits, and a suit he wore to a wedding. Beautiful suit, colour ideal for a summer type, he did not throw that away. The sales persons most likely looked at how it made his eyes pop. His nod to warm spring was the orange tie with a small blue pattern. Again: he looked good in it.

I was initially surprised when I found out that I was a cool summer because I have a light olive complexion as well, I thought that the warmth in my skin would translate to a warm season (I was expecting to be an autumn). When you think about it, the colour ‘olive green’ is just a combination of yellow + blue, so it makes sense that someone who has an olive complexion could have a cool undertone + a warm overtone , or the reverse.

I’m a makeup artist and this was amazing its almost the reason I loved colour analysis from teendom I remember seeing a picture of a warm autumn in winter makeup and she looked like a corpse and it always stuck with me great illustration 💓

Before I was analysed as a winter I always used lipstick in warm colours. And there is a funny thing I noticed: with the lipstick out of my palette, I always thought it looked wiggly, the edges seemed irregular, and I thought this must be because I am not good enough at applying lipstick, I don't get the shapes right. Now with colours in my palette, it became much easier. Although it's not more precise than before, it just looks good and even. That was really fascinating to me. Thank you so much for your amazing work!

A contur pencil can do wonders when applying lipstick. You can even have a decent effect of enlarging the lip. If they are the right consisteny (not too hard, soft enough that they are easily applied but not so soft they do not hold up) they will also fix your lipstick colour in place. Moreover if you have one that matches your natural lip colour or is only slightly darker - you can use that instead of lipstick. A little more definition, but you do not eat away the lipstick (if you go out dining for instance), or when the lipstick or gloss is gone there is still something there. Or you want a very natural look.

It was interesting to see brown/hazel eyes in people who are opposite on the seasonal colour wheel. I too have hazel eyes with a combo of green/brown/bluegrey and summers with this colour are often incorrectly analysed as autumn by people who look at eye colour first instead of skin undertone.

I have a difficult time because I can pull off clothing in autumn colors if they are in the DARK red or green family but I believe I am a True Summer. I have neutral light skin and perhaps my undertone is olive? That's why I can do greens and reds in any pallette but ultimately land on True Summer? My eyes are Grey with sage green around my iris. Orange shadows look great against my eyes but not so great on my skin. Warmer violets look amazing on my eyes and skin. So it's like I have to pick and choose when and where to wear autumn tones and when and where to use True Summer tones 😅

olive is an overtone and people know if they have it, it's obvious - does your skin have a green cast especially next to other people? Is your natural hair colour quite dark? You should probably get an analysis, you may well be one of the winters

I haven’t enjoyed content on KZfaq like this since Claire Saffitz was on Bon Appetit and there was that commentary video from a guy Mike saying “How lucky are we… we get all this [content] for free.” Thank you for the helpful tips about makeup. I was thinking how it would be fun to see the opposite makeup on each other. I shouldn’t be surprised you delivered. I have been really enjoying the power that has come with being analyzed by you virtually. It is so nice to be able to make more informed choices, instead of buying something that fits well..but is the wrong color and drains life from me. If anyone is considering an analysis from them, I highly recommend it. Also, I was so happy about the makeup swap that I watched the following ads in full so it helps you that small bit.

@@colouranalysis_studio You could make something out of the Vivaia sponsorship. They have these ballerina style shoes not only with he pointy toes but also with a WIDE toe box (so the shoe is fairly wide, almost like the square shoe style that is unfortunately not in fashion at the moment. The square form is super comfortable for warm winter boots, they allow enough room for socks and to move the toes, it wore down my pair, it is falling apart now. It is hard to find a nice looking shoe that is also comfy. With age (menopause) feet change, folks get bunions and what not - so the wide toe box on a pretty shoe is a god send. These wide toebox styles are also available in several colours: some bright, some neutral. And they even have patterns. The leopard print caught my imagination. I am on the fence. Blue jeans, white top - lip stick colour and the shoe as eye catcher for an effortless everyday outfit. The shoes have good reviews. Not sure how they uphold on a rainy day. you could maybe get samples and test wear them ? Is there a rainy season in Melbourne ?

Interesting how Giulia looks so much better in cool toned make up compared to warm toned but Alessandra could get away with cool toned make up as well in my opinion. I am an autumn type also and don’t like too wear orangy eye shadow and not even lipstick sometimes. In eyeshadows I prefer yellow golden tones or neutral shades and in lipstick warm pinky nudes or deep warm reds. Only in my blushes I like very warm toned colors. My theory is that super warm tones emphasize the yellownes in your eyeball and that cool tones make eyes and teeth look whiter. That overall looks more healthy fresh and awake.

My favorite way to explain that overtone and undertone can be different is to encourage people to think about the colors of the rainbow. When we're young, we're taught that red, orange, and yellow are warm colors while green, blue, and purple are cool colors. Think of this as your overtone/skin tone. However, as we all know from watching these fabulous analysts work, there are cool (blue) toned reds AND warm (yellow) toned reds. There are cool (blue) toned greens AND warm (yellow) toned greens. That is your undertone. If your skin was blue (lol) but you were told you have a warm undertone, you'd still want to buy a blue foundation, not yellow! Because foundation is for your overtone--the color itself.

I think you’re the first ones I’ve heard talking about undertone and overtone - and this was a huge problem of mine, since I have a yellow overtone and a blue undertone and I couldn’t explain to myself why I look better in cool colors with my yellowish skin. Great video! I don’t wear a lot of makeup but knowing what to choose for each application is awesome. I am a cool summer and found out early that black mascara is too much for me(fair hair and skin and blue grey eyes). I used to wear navy mascara many moons ago😂 but find brown or brown/black works well. It was interesting to learn about the blue undertone showing up well in the lower eye area and l could really see the red disappearing in Alessandra’s skin as she blended in the green primer! Thanks for the lesson😊🇨🇦

Buongiorno! I really really REALLY love your guys' channel! I want to add that I learned something wild that helped me a lot and sort of gels with what you briefly said about neutral and olive types, and that is it's possible to be either a COOL olive or WARM olive. I've always wondered why everything that has supposedly been made for olive skin types never really worked on my skin, and that's because I figured out I'm actually olive with a cool undertone whereas what people generally think of as olive is actually WARM olive. It's helped me figure out my palette and more importantly what my overtone actually is, since for so long I was bouncing around my cool palette and warm palette that skewed olive, making me for so long unable to decide if I was wintery or autumnal and always changing my mind. Now I GOT it! hope to see much more, and I would really like to know more about how to actually get into color analysis and how it can apply to different careers. I'm hoping I can learn it myself someday. Ciao ragazze!!!
