Fine Art TV Series - Colour In Your Life
Season - 09
Episode - 13
Filmed on Location at - Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Amanda Hyatt is an alla prima watercolour artist who has been a professional for 30 years. She has won many major awards in Australia, including The Alice Bale, The Kenneth Jack and The Camberwell. Amanda paints spontaneously with immediate reaction to a subject both in the studio and en plein air. She paints quickly and intuitively, involving thinking and sensitivity. She encourages her students to see the light, the negative space, the tones and fluidity of the seemingly unpredictable medium of watercolour.
Amanda is a member of The Twenty Melbourne Painters Society and The Australian Watercolour Institute for twenty-three years. Her career has seen thirty-three solo exhibitions, with articles published in magazines such as Flashart (USA), L’Art de L’Aquarelle (France) and The Artist (UK).
Amanda has DVDs and downloads by APV Films (UK) and gives teaching art tours continuously, both nationally and internationally for Travelrite International. In 2015 she is taking a Baltic Cruise around Finland, St. Petersburg, Sweden, Denmark and Estonia for Traverite International.
Please contact Travelrite for details.
Her supplier and sponsor Senior Art Supplies of Malvern, Melbourne, carries her preferred brand of paint, Daniel Smith, and her Media DVDs, ‘Five Steps To Watercolour‘, ‘River Scene Masterclass‘ and ‘Landscape Masterclass‘.
You can contact the artist about their art tips or art techniques directly via their website amandahyatt.com.au/

Wow, I'm in love with her art. It's so easy to get boring with watercolor this days, but her paintings are truly alive! The depth, the contrasts and the aura. Awesome!

Whatever the painting equivalent is for perfect pitch Amanda Hyatt has that for color. Her landscape leaps off the page the moment she starts adding the trees (11:48). It's astounding to watch.

The 5 "rules" to turn a painting into an art is so true. Now, the most important thing for me to start with is learning how to paint. Thanks for sharing. This is one of your posts that is too valuable to miss.

The only rules are the ones concerning technique. All other opinions are just "artistic" ego trips. Just paint. That's enough

Around the 13 minute mark the painting suddenly reminded me of an Andrew Wyeth landscape. It's that magical green he would put in his fields...I guess it resonated with me because I just finished watching a couple of his documentaries. I love his work...specially his landscapes. Amanda Hyatt so reminds me of myself! lol I have a hat like that...great for travel and a scarf like that wrapped around my neck...anyways. Love her watercolours!

This was incredible. I personally think she should have added a few white dots/areas or some other bright color (Cerillion blue or orange) to represent the house or building roofs scattered around among dark value areas mid ground. That just come from me watching other artists though. I think this was the best video for instruction in realist/impressionist style I have ever seen.

Can't agree with her perspective on "A true artist should be able to paint all things in all mediums" I feel that's an extremely hindering thing to say to someone desiring to learn about art. There are different mediums for different reasons. Not everyone enjoys oil, or enjoys watercolor etc.. I think someone who truly puts 100 percent into a medium they love is the better for it. We live in a world where art is so subjective. What someone may love others hate. I say be confident in yourself in what YOU personally enjoy painting ultimately that is what's going to reflect your passion the most.

Pianokeys16 Well after 68 years of drawing, painting in all mediums, digging my own pigments and pastel painting, I think I could say I qualify by her standards and by yours since I whittled my media down to watercolour and pastel painting some 20 years ago. Experience and maturity count too.
