Wow! When used correctly and cautiously, git merge --squash would be a godsend! I work in the same methodology that you displayed here. Alot of my commits on my development branch are silly worded as I continue to develop that feature. merge -squash would be easier before pushing that feature branch.

Yes! I do this a lot because my team expects it. I make small commits on my feature branch and then use interactive rebase to squash them.

Thanks, Now i can clean up all those "fix accidental typo" commits.

How do create a single commit to master, but preserve branch history? Do I need two branches? Master branch, feature branch (squashed). Feature branch preserved history? I'm using gerrit and it's getting tedious reviewing the daily commits.

one problem I have with this is that I can't seem to squash into the initial commit. I currently have a local repository where I'm setting up webpack, react and figuring out a nice framework for the project I wanna work on next, but I've basically been doing a commit per installed+configured package and I wanna merge all of that into one "Initial Setup" commit in the end.
