Peter Falk was a cook in the Navy towards the end of WW2. Thats why he looks so natural in the kitchen and is such a food lover

The foods really highlight a lot of the differences between Columbo and the social classes he finds the murderers in, and even further accentuates how down to earth Columbo is. It's a nice touch.

That scene has a flub. Watch it again: When he removed the snail, he uses a snail tweezer utensil; then the camera switches and as he's about to eat it, he's using a fork. Loads of continuity errors in all Columbo episodes and I've always wondered why??

I just love it when he discusses the food with whoever is around, he really appreciates it when he's offered a bite to eat, and he always has an excuse for being hungry, he's missed breakfast, or didn't have lunch because he's working on a case, priceless!

The food scenes were always necessary because most of the time, it is how Columbo gets his information about the cases. Eating could put people's guard down because eating increases the happy hormones. They could hint something verbally or non-verbally about themselves. Also, Columbo does a lot of mental work. According to medical experts, one can think straight if one's stomach is full.

I think it's usually one of his tactics. He's just about to reveal that he knows something and suddenly he's distracted and has to go off on a tangent about how good the food is. This frustrates his target but if they lose their cool they look guilty, so they squirm and put up with it.

Columbo is actually a gourmet. Not an "Italian that is supposed to know how to eat well cos is Italian" or a pesky one like Ramsay. He has good taste, he has manners, he is not arrogant. Because he actually is the smartest one in the room.

Thanks for this!! Huge fan of Columbo here. I thought I saw them all but I cannot place the caviar episode.🤔 Which one was that? Also...you forgot the EGGS!!😄 He will sometimes pull a hard boiled egg out of his raincoat upon arriving on a scene. And he made an omelet for the wife of the writer who was killed in the episode staring Jack Cassidy. Either way...another great video. Enjoyed it!

Caviar scene is from Double Exposure 1973. The murderer, Robert Culp, uses caviar to make his victim thirsty. Shoots victim when he goes to the water fountain.

I love the setup for the drive-in diner scene. Columbo offers to take a fancy lawyer to lunch saying it’ll be “my treat”, and takes him for cheap burgers and shakes😂 I bet it was so endearing that even the lawyer was like “Eh why not, he’s doing his best”

There's an episode where a chef or someone associated with a restaurant is murdered and the victims friend tells Columbo that as long as he's working on the case he will never go hungry. True to his word every time he appears on screen he's giving Columbo something to eat, also I should mention the friend is not the killer so he's acting of genuine kindness.

I'm from the UK & Watch His Episodes/Films every weekend on 5 USA Channel, also I tried His Peanut Butter with Raisins Sandwich!, I had My Favourite Crunchy Peanut Butter & used bag of Mixed Raisins & Sultanas etc & was a nice Sandwich!.

They didn't include the one in the restaurant with the psychiatrist from Rest in Peace, Mrs. Columbo. He ordered a BLT. In the fancy restaurant, it was called an Embarcadero Garni. He ended up taking it home (without the garni).
