Columbus is one of my favorite movies. It is a meditative experience that touches you as you watch it. At first it’s the beauty of the cinematography and architecture that captures your attention, but by the end it’s the genuine human connection between Casey and Jin that touches you. After you watch it, you start to look for the beauty that surrounds you wherever you’re at. You start to listen more to the people you care about and you try to connect with them through what’s important to them. I really wish I could’ve seen this movie on the big screen, I’m sure it would’ve been an incredible experience.

I saw this movie on the big screen (by chance), and it was a beautiful experience. I'm not too sure too many others saw it in the cinema but it definitely stayed with me. Just watched After Yang tonight which is how I ended up here.

Absolutely right. There is one German film "Der Krieger und die Kaiserin" (princess and the warrior) - I do not know, if this film was ever released outside Germany - but for myself it created a similar atmosphere, even though I am not sure, if you could compare them.

Have you watched any movies since them, where you felt that they were ggorgeous, but simply underrated?

An absolute gem. I could watch the movie with the sound off and still enjoy every second.

I've watched this movie multiple times....Thanks @Aaron for the review. The characters are just amazing in the way they are enacted by the John and Haley. I'm glad that there is no sex and romance...but pure appreciation for each other and a deeper understanding of each other. The relationship is such that they can connect with themselves at a mature yet personal level and all so for the benefit of each other. I like the fact that Jin truly wanted to bring the best out of Casey...and I think that's what real friends do. That's another definition of love. I love to listen to the movie rather than watching it...coz I remember every scenes.

This movie has some sort of Stillness to it that’s not boring, but the stunning visuals and the simple interactions kinda pull you in to the world better than any big action movie could. This movie is slow but not boring, it was really treat to watch this movie just to appreciate the little things

Columbus is a personal favorite- visually stunning, as you say but I believe the character of Casey does more than just fill space in a remarkable visual environment. I think her loneliness and isolation are key to the film. She's a very intelligent young woman, with heart of an artist who, like an artist, sees things those around her don't. I think the architecture in her town functions as a message in a bottle, so to speak, with notice that someone who sees what you see left this landmark here. You are not alone. When Jin enters her life, her conversation can expand from otherwise silent buildings to a human who hears her voice. She gets to hear her voice as well- and can begin to follow it.

Nice commentary. The film is a masterpiece and a huge influence on me. Everything counts in the film, and the architecture of the surroundings informs upon the interior architecture of the characters. It is wonderfully patient and precise, like a perfect dish, and completely unpretentious.

This is a movie I must put on my ‘To Watch’ list. Such a deep and thorough analysis of a movie in such short time. The points you made are extremely thought provoking. Especially that discussion about what fuels someone’s passion is having someone to share it with. Extremely high production quality too. Definitely one of your best videos so far.

Surely in my top 10 of the best movies in the past decade. This is an example of a movie with both superb style and substance. Unlike the overrated and pretentious Everything Everywhere All at Once and Decision To Leave which seems to be all style and not much substance.

Thank you so much for this video. I was really hooked when i first caught columbus after reading a "list of movies you probabluy didnt see 2017" list. Lost in Translation gets compared to it, and for good reason. I believe this film to be a step above though. (only slightly) I have made my Family and certain friends watch it, of course none of them had heard of it. It's a film which apealls to very observant people who aren't necerally interested in action films. The humanism and care of this film is amazing. It currently sits at my second favorite movie that I've seen. #1 goes to Synecdoche, New York simply because it's unbelevably truthful and specific while also depicting a very very large percentage of people lives (at least ones that live in the 1st world) The layers of that film let me watch it litterally over a hundred times and learn new things every time. The themes are just heartbreakingly honest and again, true. However, back to Columbus. The acting was absolutly wonderful. Rory Culkin really shows off his talent. John Cho.. I was unaware he was so damn good. So nice to see Parker Posey in there. And I was glad to see the director Konondowa (sp?) included Hayley Richardson (lovely performance) in his new film, 'After Yang' which I just saw and deals in sci-fi and AI. The film still is REALLY about love, connection, and loss. Not to mention, It features Colin Farrel talk about tea (yes, the beverage) in such a beautiful way. I keep bringing up Columbus to people, I don't know if they ever watch, but hey, I did my part. Thanks again for the video, i think you nailed it. There should be more talk about this film. Keep it up, Subscribed! :)

Great video. Totally agree about how holding these shots that might seem arbitrary to some actually add layers to the experience in a myriad of ways. Instead of style over substance, its style as a vehicle for substance.

I came to know about this movie thru a video song edit in KZfaq, which I feel, is an amazing choice of song for the movie. Watched the movie eventually, and was nothing short from being mesmerized by its magic. It's a cinematic masterpiece to say the least. I can't even describe what made me feel so good upon watching it. Even had a paradigm shift on the way i look at my surroundings after that. A subtle & deep movie, both at the same time. Paradoxically euphoric. p/s: in case you're wondering what song was it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gKyDrNeDzLSueZc.html

Are you referring to the video song edit of Apocalypse by Cigarettes After Sex (the video has been removed now, so I think you are referring to it as well)? If you are, that is indeed how I found about this movie!!
