In this episode of Duniyadari, we will talk about the island nations Haiti and the Dominican Republic in Caribbeans. These were once the colonies of France and Spain respectively. Columbus landed in Haiti in 1492. He’s revered as an explorer but he has a dark past of the exploitation of Haitian people through slavery. Countries like France and Spain are equally culpable. Colonists gathered the natural resources and it can be said that they looted these countries. In recent times, Haiti, especially Port-au-Prince has been marred by gang wars, massacres, and poverty. Gang violence has increased since the 2016 election when Jovenel Moise was elected as president. That year saw a lot of protests by the Haitian people. Throughout the world, colonial history is full of tragedy and exploitation of colonized nations. Haiti and the Dominican Republic are examples of this.

The term "Great" has different meaning in India and abroad. Britain was great because he conquered many countries, Doesn't matter what he did with them, enslave them, crush their economy, make them poor, snatch their resources, Alexander was also great for same reason. In India, Raja Ram Chandra is great, Raja Harishchandra is great, Bhagwan bali, Gandhi, bhagat Singh is great because they make big sacrifice. That what make them great.

भारतीय बड़े ही पाखंडवादी होते हैं। दूसरों की गलतियां बराबर निकाल लेंगे । लेकिन जब बात अपने पर आ जाए तो आंख बंद कर देंगे। दुनिया का हर मूलनिवासी वो है जो आज प्रताड़ित है। जिनके समाज की दयनीय स्थिति है। भारत के मूल निवासी दलित और पिछड़े जाति के लोग ही है। यह जमीन उन्हीं की थी जिस पर आर्यों ने बाहर से आकर आक्रमण किया और उन्हें गुलाम बना दिया। वो आर्य आज समाज में उच्च जाति में पाए जाते हैं। और भारत का मूलनिवासी आज भी अपमानित जिंदगी जीने पर मजबूर है।

Can we really compare historical figures like Columbus by today's standards?? World has changed a lot from that time... Columbus is being called Great for his expertise in the field of exploration not for him being a Saint... In 15th century All the countries around the world was looting someone else for expanding their territories for making money.....so with today's standards each and every powerful leader was a war hungry killer machine.... We just cannot dig up the history and bash a historical figure for doing something which was a regular practice at that time period..

i still believe he is "great" , not necessary everyone should follow "humanitarian" to be great, right ? He is great because he was brave to leave everything behind and ready to cross oceans. its like someone leaving earth and going in space or some planate and do whatever to survive on new planet. I think we visualize everything based on current conditions (2021) and not 100 or 200 years back.
