Column Level Security (CLS) in Power BI without Tabular Editor or Unpivot.
This tutorial shows a different approach to achieve Column Level Security in Power BI where I am not using tabular editor or Unpivot. This will not increase any data volume.

What is the version of Power BI you are using? I have a version from February 2023 but there is no option for the Parameter 'Fileds' unfortunately. Thanks!

In your version, enable this feature from the preview feature.

This is great. My question is how do you associate users to these roles? When I went to PBI Dataset and choose Security, I can associate users with these roles I created. However, it does not seem to take effect when I permission myself to one role or the other. I still see all columns.

As u r the report creator u can see all the data irrespective of the roles n permissions

RLS and CLS are disregarded for any access level over Viewer.

I wouldn't call this column level security. This does not protect the original column for the user of the dataset or report. However, it can be a practical way to hide certain data in a visual from users for whom it is not relevant. Any other suggestions to 'really' secure colomns based on roles in PBIX without the use of third party tools?

I don't have any solution at the moment. I will do some RND on it and will create another video on it.

You can hide the original fields, I believe, so they don't show up in the dataset.

You can hide it by help of measures. So that users do not see underlying dataset.
