Well I'd like to nice up the interior and put a set of radials on it without losing the wide white look. That's kind of pricy. And I need to pull out the tranny and put a synchronizer in the 2nd gear slot, then convert it to 12 volt. I've got a new driver's side glass for it already. After that I'll be ready to drive it to the other coast.. hahaha.

My first car was a 1976 Ford Granada with a 3 on the tree with and in-line 6, the other kids in high school always thought it was an auto until they rode in it. Also had manual steering, manual disk brakes, manual clutch with a extra spring on it, high speed rear end, and I could get 34 mpg at 70. Once or twice I bound up the shifting linkages going from first to second too fast. It finally died with over 500,000 verified miles, granddad had bought it new in 1976 for $3400.00.

I learned to dive a 3 (and even a 4) speed transmission on the column not long after I learned how to drive. Back in the 80's, I inherited my great uncle's chevy truck and it had a 3 speed on the column. I noticed that second gear seemed to have a lot of power and then I remembered that my uncle never used it. He would start out in first gear and as soon as he got rolling, he would automatically go to third (bucking along the way). I never recalled him ever using 2nd. gear.

Hi, I see you have a toggle switch for the overdrive, and you took off in first. So you must have the governor connected. Is that right? I’m asking because I’m putting an overdrive unit in my old Chevy. Thanks.
@rpeek4 жыл бұрын
I've never quite figured what the toggle switch does but I think it cuts the power to the solenoid locking it out from shifting.. The pull switch also unlocks the solenoid but I'm suspecting it maybe does it only in low gear? I'm not sure. Yes, this is connected to the throttle assembly. It's quite a complicated set of throttle rods and such. I'd study some pictures of the old cars if you can find 'em. I'd considered swapping this one over to a multiple carb setup, but knew I'd have to re configure that throttle setup and decided to pass on doing that.
