Fantastic video. I am installing one in my ‘78 T2 right now. One thing I discovered is there is a small drip hole in the muffler that allows internal condensation to drip from the silencer. They recommend mounting it so the drip hole points down.

What a great spot to mount the heater as not much room inside a T3.

You can buy 4 Chinese heaters for the price of one of the ones you are showing , I fitted my heater 6years ago one only had one set of plugs in that time

That’s great news! Sometimes you get lucky with Chinese diesel heaters, however as retailers and fitters, we can’t take the risk. Happy travels :)

I used same box on t4 although i found the box rattled, ended up using some sound deadening products to dampen the lid , the panels & also top between it & underside of van

16:30 Żubrówka! One of us! ;-) BTW, do you have dimensions of that steel box? I found a neat place under my long Peugeot Rifter next to the spare wheel and I wonder if I could fit the heater there as inside there is obviously little space for everything. Thanks!

Great video thank you , do you really need to pull air in from the van ? Can you pull air in from outside instead of cutting a hole and running the inlet up into the van well done good luck 👍👍👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧🇨🇦🦢

Yewwwww Bulli is ready for a Pyrenees winter return! Do you know if there is room to mount the box 90 degrees rotated, so both inlet and outlet holes are located under the bench seat in a T3 Caravelle?? (i.e under where your rock n roll bed is)
@CombeValleyCampers
@CombeValleyCampers 8 ай бұрын
It could be located under the seat, yes

There are always people having a discussion about if you weather should get the air flow inlet inside the van or outside from fresh air, I see you get the air from the inside right? This solution is also more safe that you dont get exhaust inside right?
@CombeValleyCampers
@CombeValleyCampers 4 ай бұрын
I like to recirculate the air from the inside as the air will already be warmer, less chance of bringing in exhaust, and the heater will be more economical too

Hi Ben, we can certainly help. In a petrol vehicle we would add a small diesel tank in a convenient location that would be topped up independently

Great install and vlog… can I ask why you didn’t fit a fuel filter to the fuel line as you would get small bits going into your fuel pump.. love my heater and is a game changer in the winter months

Hello, can you fit the exhaust of the heater directly to the exhaust silencer of the van ? (I'm building my own silencer out of stainless steel, so no big trouble making it fit)
@dudeskinus
@dudeskinus 8 ай бұрын
I wouldn't, you can't be sure that the pressure of the vans exhaust gasses don't break your heater or come back through etc when driving. Worst case is filling your van with exhaust fumes while you drive. Not worth the risk in my opinion without a valve or solenoid etc.
@sirflop1220

ofc, that's logic, thanks@@dudeskinus

This is not advised. The instruction are clear in that the exhaust provided should be used and it would likely negate any warranty if improper installation was carried out. Leigh

Silly question but I assume that you wouldn't be able to install this in a petrol vehicle. Mines a 1990 VW T3 1.9 dg petrol engine.

Yes it’s entirely possible, you would just need the addition of a diesel tank mounted inside the van :)

Thanks for replying I am just in the middle of fitting a Chinese heater to my t4 (sorry but that’s my budget) and it came with a filter ,I am fitting the pump and filter under the van in water proof electric boxes to prevent road debris? Don’t know if this a good method or not? Any comments would be appreciated thanks

Anything you can do to protect your gear from the elements is a bonus I’d say, just make sure they are easily accesible

@@michaellittler2616 nothing wrong with the cheaper chinese made heaters, I have run one for several years without having to strip it down to clean. Two things that I do is and it depends how much you use it but run it on high for half hour or so to burn off the carbon deposits especially after it’s been used on low for a while. The second thing that I have done is fit an isolation switch so that the display is not illuminated when not in use as the LEDs do tend to go dim, also the display is very bright especially when you are trying to sleep. As Lee says protecting parts from the weather is a great idea.

@@CombeValleyCampers Although Planar say they are no longer manufactured in russia it is still owned by two russians who changed their address to Israel to attempt to get round the world's dim view of their country. The money is still going to russia. ( I perused the company's registration details when people kept saying that they are not russian now ). I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Don't you insulate hot air duct into van ?
@CombeValleyCampers
@CombeValleyCampers 8 ай бұрын
The heater tube is mildly insulated and lined with a reflective material. Generally the run from heater to interior is short, but there is no reason why you couldn’t spend the extra time to do it to yours.
