Combine CSV Files with Power Query

The video shows how to combine multiple comma separated files (CSV) together into one file. This procedure use the Power Query capabilities. Power Query is an add-on for Excel that you can get from Microsoft.

Can this be used if the csv files have different headers? What happens if each file saves things differently? For example, if you are merging addresses and some are saved as 123 Main St. vs. 123 Main St vs. 123 Main Street. We are trying to combine different lists that may have things saved differently, into one stream lined list, in order to see if something qualifies as multiple categories over the 4 lists, but if things are saved differently, it has mess the merge up.

with different headers it would add a column for the different respective headers. You'd have to edit the CSV files before the merge.

thanks for the video, but in my case i have too many rows, so I can not filter and uncheck sales, because it is after the 5000 rows...

filter for some other value, then go into the m code and replace that one with sales

The file name is already listed at the very top of your screen once you have given the csv file a name. Do a save as, name it, and as soon as you save it the file name will be there for you at the top of the spreadsheet any time you open it.

I think Water Suu question is: How to add the files names of the 4 files to the table in a separate column. This might be useful if you have weekly project progress csv files and the file name = the date. So when you merge the csv files you might need to add the date in the file name to the final combined table as a column to know each progress belong to which week.

What if the CSV files need to have information updated straight from a website, is this possible?

Hi Sir, If column header name changed in future does it work??? If number of columns will increase or decrease does it work??? Because sometime data files keep updating according to the time. So in my case i need to create a new query i have no solution. Could you please advise or make a video pls. Thanks Your videos are very informative.
