I miss Bozeman. I went to MSU and we would ride our bikes down Hyalite full speed, camp up at the resovior and drink gallons of cheap beer. I also miss my ski "classes" at Bridger Bowl or Big Sky. College credit to go skiing at least once a week! Life was tough back then.

You guys may think I’m crazy , but cutting trees is similar in lots of ways. Controlling adrenaline, staying hyper focused so things you can control are being taken care of and then ultimately being able to tell yourself, hey you may not go home today.🤷🏻‍♂️just how it is

Loved the film. Feel a bit sick at the thought of some of those hooks. Please fix (i.e. unreverse) the weird mirror image of the route at about 8m47s. Couldn't work out why Matt suddenly switched to the other side of the final ice pillar from where he was a few frames before!

I watch this from my north suburban Chicago house at about 50 feet above sea level. Lol pretty lame out here. Cannot wait to finish my degree and move out west.

There's actually a small, but active, ice climbing community in Chicago. I started ice climbing while living in Lincoln Park. The UP, Wyalusing, Winona, Starved Rock, Devils Lake, all have good ice. The UP is a world class ice climbing destination.

It really saddens me that the climbing community continues to support content like this. Essentially, we are begging to normalize this form of the sport. While I commend Matt and his accomplishments, I can’t help but think that this amazing videography might inspire some other climbers to participate in free soloing.

Well made video, glad to have watched it, but wish it had just been a ground up lead. Publicly free soloing is perverse.

"the hardest mixed climbing route in Hyalite Canyon". This is straight up false. Why are you diminishing this accomplish with false and grandiose superlatives? I have not climbed in Hyalite Canyon, but even I know there are harder routes than M7. Winter Dance for example.

granitewalls I think it’s a typo, or worded poorly. Hardest solo in Hyalite. Certainly not the hardest mixed climb in the canyon!

Dawg, youve clearly never been ice climbing before. As you swing into the ice its natural to break big chunks off. The helmet is used to deflect the ice and prevent head injury. its a tool just like the ice axe. without it you could get a concussion that could have been prevented and keep you from loosing grip.
