Great idea - now I need to figure out how to modify it to make removable floors, maybe thinning towards the top and windmill machinery that works and still allows it to open up. Shouldn't be to hard. I'll get back to you in a decade or two 😊

I really like the different studs to add texture. I like building walls because you can add minifigure legs and small studs to add character. I used this technique in one of my walls in an animation so the room was curved. Nice tutorial. Thanks

I figured out a similar technique but used an 8x8 round plate to make it a perfect circle. The half circle parts are easier to find. Its studs clip in perfectly to the round building shape but you may need to create a bulge to go around the 8x8 plate.

Really cool video and interesting technique! I did some maths and a circle with a radius of 10 studs like you've got has a circumference of pi x 10 = 31.4 studs, and this has 32 studs. Do you notice any stressing of the pieces due to the extra 0.6 of a stud round the outside, essentially forcing the hinges outwards to a slightly larger than 10 studs circle? :) Then again my maths could be wrong since it's not actually a circle.
@MBBricks
@MBBricks 4 жыл бұрын
Hey! I had no stressing as I was building and after securing it with the final ring of hinges at the top, it's fairly solid. My best guess if the math is correct that with the hinges being able to adjust ever so slightly, it may not be a perfect circle, even though it looks like it to the eye. I also know from experience that the larger you build with this style, the more round it appears, and the smaller you build it becomes more blocky. But I generally don't build anything if there is stress on the parts as it makes it unstable, and harder to build, especially upwards/outwards. If you try out this technique let me know what you find, especially comparing it to different sizes in circumference! :)
@Sam-ze8uo

@@MBBricks That's what I thought, is that it's large enough for the difference to be within Lego's tolerances as there's a little bit of give in the parts. I'd love to have a go but don't think I have enough hinges lol - and I'm sure calculating all the angles on Studio will be a real pain! But I might give it a go as I've been trying to build a tower. So far I've been using the "8x8 Octagonal Tower tutorial" on this page on Eurobricks: www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/158625-collection-of-medieval-tutorials/ This person has some really cool tips so I recommend having a look too!

My problem is that I cannot cover a round structure with a properly fitting round roof. Any idea?
@Nphen
@Nphen 3 жыл бұрын
Seeing her use those turntable pieces to attach the angled support pieces gave me an idea. Put hinge pieces on turntables all around the top to get the angles you need. Use the largest round cone pieces you can find to form the tip of the spire and connect it back down to the hinge pieces at the top of the walls.
