Come by the Highway Home
The line of the horizon stretches far as I can see
I have come by the highway home
This dry and dusty road turns to clouds beneath my feet
I have come by the highway home
Past the stubble of the cornfield and the lonely blackbird’s song
I have come by the highway home
In the broken light of oak trees that have stood here all along
I have come by the highway home
Can you see the first star of the blue night
Can you hear the soft cicada drone
Can you feel the warmth of the moonlight
I have come by the highway home
Just around the bend the chimney’s ribbon of smoke
I have come by the highway home
In the blue black morning all the windows all aglow
I have come by the highway home
Can you see the dogs jumping at the back door
Can you hear the mourning dove moan
Can you feel the sunlight on the wood floor
I have come by the highway home
When you hear the sound of church bells ringing through the town
I have come by the highway home
In the painting of the sky as the setting sun goes down
I have come by the highway home
I have come by the highway home

Her voice is like a warm wool sweater. So beautiful. Makes me think of fall days at school when I was a kid. The crisp cool air. The maple leaves covering the ground. The smell of the trees and the grass.

What a wonderful performer she is and what a lovely person too...her sincerity, warmth and the sheer love of what she's doing radiate from everything I've ever heard her do. Caitlin puts 100% into every performance. I'm a 75 year old player and I can honestly say she has re-awoken my musical life. Thank you !! x

She has the prettiest voice that's ever sung a folk song. So easy and honest. Her album Reckless Skyline is a masterpiece.

How moving. I was reminded of one of the last scenes in the Asphalt Jungle where Dix the hooligan (Sterling Hayden) is dying and is driving back home, Doll is in the car and he's obsessed with finding a particular horse. He stops, runs into a field with Doll chasing him, runs up to a horse in beautiful idyllic pastoral scene and dies. He came back home.

Fantastic voice and song. Her craft is new to me and I am getting as much of her music as I can get my hands (ears) on. Nice touch to hear Chris on an archtop.

At the risk of being presumptuous -- I don't know Caitlin Canty's music that well, and for that matter, I am relatively new to the world of folk, bluegrass, country etc. -- but if I may play (very) amateur producer, I want to reinforce the other comment I just entered. I have enjoyed Caitlin's recent videos, including the fact that she is accompanied by such wonderful musicians (Sarah Jarosz, for heaven's sake, along with Brittany Haas and Paul Kowert). However, in this performance with Chris Eldridge, it seems to me that she has found the missing ingredient, or the ideal combination -- the addition of a male voice singing harmony, and a second guitar -- played by Chris Eldridge, no less. Seems to me that this pairing (not that I would be in any hurry to eliminate Caitlin's other collaborators) just really works, magnificently, in terms of the texture of the sound, and also the musical chemistry. Really, what do I know? But it sure sounds and feels right to me. No doubt I may also be completely ignorant about other (music business) factors regarding who can perform or record together, under what circumstances, etc. etc. etc. In any event, I have appreciated a number of Caitlin's fairly recent videos, and shared them with friends, but this one struck me as really special.

if you like women folk singers accompanied by male guitarists/backup singers you should check out Gillian Welch + David Rawlings especially their album Time (The Revelator). critter's style here is definitely drawing on David Rawlings-even just the fact he's playing an archtop

It's an early variation of the Gibson L-50 or L-75. Those models changed rapidly in the early to mid 1930s as Gibson adapted to tough economic times, when only the most well-off could afford an L-5.
