Titanic picked this song because it was released in 1911 and the real Titanic incident took place in 1912 so it was popular during the real time. James Cameron did a great job in picking up the deep details.

This isn’t the original though, the original was a solo by a lady called Blanche something, can’t remember her surname, released in 1910, but still around the same time as Titanic, it still would have been a very popular song in 1912

I'm 45 years young and I love music like this, as well as 1800s, 1700s, pretty much every music from the point music was created. Paleolithic music is super intersting. They'd use mammoth and boar tusks attached to cord, would spin it and get a deep "whistling groaning" sound. They'd beat upon other items for a rhythm and utilize other items for accompaniment. Super intersting how music began and has evolved. My favorite eras of music has to be the Roaring 20s, Médiéval music and the 1700s.

@@Major.Nero.Vulpi.001 This was a song in reference to the Wright brothers' first flights. And "flying machine" was what they called aeroplanes in the very early years in the 1900s. Even by the 1910s and WW1, I think that more people adopted the term aeroplane or aircraft. Let me know also if you can translate this comment to your language so you understand what I've written.

Back when people sometimes literally held their noses while they sang, so that their voices would sound as "nasal", or as "sinuous" as possible. For some reason, the public really went for this sound. The songs themselves, like this sweet tune, were lovely & penned by talented people. Fast forward to the present day: IDK about YOU, but upon hearing the so-called "great" songs of today, I very often find myself holding MY nose -- but for a totally different reason.

People were so excited about all the possibilities that the industrial revolution and scientific and technological boom would bring them, its interesting to think what all this technology culminated in the two world wars. I remember a time in my life were it seemed that technology would bring beautiful possibilities to the world, now i feel like everything invented that could make our lives better is turned to control and destruction. Remember in the 1990s and 2000s when the internet was free? it felt like an information revolution would sweep away ignorance and dissolve borders, but today in 2020 those in power have found a way to turn the internet into a system of mind control like they did with the TV and radio before them, just another money and power pump, going from bottom to top.

Why wasn't this in Bioshock Infinite? They sure had Button Your Overcoat from 1929 in 1912 universe, but this would have fitted the Infinite's flying city theme perfectly.

Today we don’t even notice the contrails of airliners going by at 35,000 ft. Or we are aggravated at the wait to board a plane in order to travel across the continent in a few hours. I’d love to have this sense of awe and fascination again.

The saddest thing about this song is when jack sings it to rose and later when she is asleep as an old lady we see the photo of her in front of a plane.

I like this song, but I heard it for the first time on Titanic >_> The truth is that this song was popular at the time!

Yes I’m here because of Titanic because that’s how I originally discovered the song, but I listen to it from time to time because it’s pretty catchy. Edit: But to think about it, this song scares me because of how old it is. I guess the song itself doesn’t scare me but the fact that so much time has passed since then does. Time goes too fast and It’s been 21 years since Titanic movie, 106 years since the actual Titanic, and 107 years since this song was made. It’s crazy.

I remember being obsessed with this song in 6th grade and being obsessed with Titanic and Friday Night Funkin. I miss those days and I’m still a fnf fan to this day

Between this song and the man going to the Moon exists a 58 yeas gap, imagine being a kid in the early 1910s and listening to this and when you notice, you see the first man on the moon in 1969, That'd be just crazy!

This song came out in 1910 I believe I personally find very old songs pretty creepy because of how bad the quality is and it reminds me of Layers of fear

this very high childlike voice stayed in fashion for the younger female singers (although ada jones wasn't that young either) for many years, from the late 1890s to the 1930s even. that's why her voice is similar to those of snow white and betty boop, specially.
