May I offer a bit of "seasoned" advice from a former workaholic who went through burn-out twice. I'm now 69, hence I'm "seasoned". Pick a goal on your house, a milestone that is somewhat close. When it happens, you need to take a break, a family trip to somewhere that you can all relax and recharge. If you don't you will find your productivity will drop off and depression will follow, burn-out. You owe this to yourselves and to each other, in order to stay healthy, both physically and mentally. I've been watching since the beginning, you guys are awesome. You need to take care of yourselves in order to take care of each other. God bless!
@LoveColorado3 жыл бұрын
Boy Dave, you said it so well. Truly it is easy to get hyperfocused and just stay with it a few more hours, yet accomplishing little. We all need to take care of ourselves, especially when we are the providers for others. Learning to let go or just to say, "I did well, time to take a break."
@donnablackman91673 жыл бұрын
Dave Edson I agree with all you've said to this couple. I've followed this show since they had the containers delivered and hope they keep going after the home is "finished". I like the way they don't try to seem perfect and just go on ahead and be human. Hope you are safe and healthy. :~) Donna Blackman, Missouri, USA

I learned something a few years ago from a friend of mine. If you want to keep snakes away, get ducks and or chickens. We encourage the wild ducks to work for us by putting down bird seed, but you can also use chickens. I notice that you have a fence around your yard, so perhaps that will help keep them in. Anyway, ducks and chickens hate snakes because they eat their babies. As a group, they will gang up on the snake and drive it away or kill it - which ever comes first. Happily, our wild duck visitors also rid our property of many bugs, including very large dock spiders (by large, I mean the size of my hand). Some years we have more wild ducks than others, and we notice the difference in the bug control during lighter duck years. Anyway, its a passive way to keep snakes off the property. FYI.

Coming out great! My husband and I built our house and it took us about 6 years and 2 kids with full time jobs, working on weekends once we moved in because we could work on site. At first we my husband worked on the house in the morning and had second shift job. We worked weekends until we moved in 2 years 7 months, 3 months before the birth of our first child. Then 3 years later we moved in to our official home 2 months after our second child was born. I see your husband and I see mine cause he would work without stop doing everything your husband's doing. So keep up the good work and don't give up. I remember our first night in our home, we couldn't sleep and we cried when we saw what we had achieved.

I kept thinking they must have someone helping them, it’s so professionally done. But I think they would have mentioned it somewhere along the line, they’ve been so honest about so many things,

Take a break, go somewhere else for at least two weeks, for the change of "scenery". I have renovated two flats and it is really easy to get caught in the "this needs to be done, and this and this and I don't deserve a break because this needs to be done as well..." and then have a breakdown... sooo, be wise and don't be a perfectionist... it's not worth it. Your child won't appreciate the perfection of surfaces she will appreciate happy, relaxed parents :)

You’ve both done so well it’s a pleasure to watch both yourselves, your family and your property grow… It is idyllic… I had the pleasure of living out in South Carolina for about a year and fell in love with the idea of doing something like you’re doing. You are lucky in so many ways, keep up the good work and good luck

Kenzie, you guys took on a huge challenge that takes grit, just like most folks who choose to live off-grid. I think if you had thought through your temporary living arrangements a little better, although it sometimes costs you more, you would have been better off. But, you are doing what off-grid families have to do and it's not easy until you get a good roof over your head. Our hardest time was winter months, fighting deep snow and freezing temperatures before we had a good shelter three years later.

Stay encouraged! You'll be moving in and enjoying all your hard work before you know it! We have lived in our fixer upper for 5 years and still are probably only half done with it. Everyone thinks we are crazy. You're living like no one else now so you can live like no one else soon! Love you guys!

You are amazing. You are honest. You are vulnerable. And it’s all beautiful. As a mom of 3 young kids who likes her projects, it’s SO hard to make time for yourself and SO easy to stretch yourself thin. You’re doing the best you can. Take comfort in that. You are creating a beautiful and safe home for your family. It’s not like you’re sitting around being lazy and not enjoying those moments. Give yourself a break and try your hardest to rid the guilt. Stay strong, Momma! Solidarity. ❤️

I am a mom, and a we have been working on my childhood home for the last 6 years. We are doing this ourselves. It is exhausting. Just don't forget to take moments, and dates, and time. These children make your time FLY by. One second you're giving birth, the next they are freshmen in high-school and your baby is starting kindergarten. It is a lot to take in. Especially for moms. You guys are doing an AMAZING job. We are so proud of you!

Hang in there Kenz! You are doing a great job. You guys have created so much together-a home. A daughter, incredible memories. We all struggle with weariness and being overwhelmed, especially theses days. . I can’t even imagine how it is for y’all with the house project and a little. Sharing is a great way to diffuse some of it. I look forward to your video every week, they are such a wonderful reminder that there is still plenty of good in this world. 😀

Even through all of the work and struggles, just know you two are blessed! Obviously what we see in the short (to us!) videos are not a full play-by-play of your lives, however from what you show, you two are rocking it! So even if you’re down on yourself and feel exhausted, just know we appreciate the work and soon you’ll get to relax more than work ❤️ be safe if you’re in the storm path and get ready to fill up those water containers!

I started to cry Mackenzie when you took your wee walk with Bear and your daughter. Why the emotion well I am on a similar off grid journey with a friend. We have been working on an earthship for two and half years. To live in the moment is definitely difficult when the to do list is endless. Not sure how much longer this project will take but watching what you and Spencer have accomplished is an inspiration to us. Keep up the good work.

MacKenzie I can only imagine how much both you & Spencer try to "cram" into each day - AND to boot you film your journey, edit, add music & then upload for us! At 09:00 minutes in I was crying....it HAS TO be difficult - you must sometimes wish you could snap your fingers & your home will be complete; furnishings & all! Stay strong, take those much needed breaks & drag that hubby with you 🙂 ("Lure him" with a popsicle, lol). The videos have been awesome to watch, I dunno how I came across your channel but like so many others have mentioned, you do an awesome job. We are having all the pleasure of watching you & your beautiful family whilst you and Spencer do all the back-breaking work! The videos can wait...if you are overwhelmed. Your fanbase will still enthusiastically look forward to the day when you post another one. Cheers & give yourself permission to relax - don't burn yourselves out! I am going to look at your merch store now 🙂 💗 from 🇨🇦

If I may make a suggestion, now that you’ve pretty much got your house exterior done, you all should have that conversation of stopping work at a specific time each day(4or5) & enjoy each other, & the baby, away from talking about the house. Your absolutely correct time fly’s faster when kids are a part of your family. Both of your determination & drive to continue working is noble, & admirable. Believe me, her early years leaves a lasting impression of how she will see life, from the example you both set for her. Owning a home always has a “to do” list, life is meant to be enjoyed, not passed by, from working to the point of resentment of your creation. Great job, no worries about little boo boos along the way, a few coats of “3 inch” paint, & it’s perfect.

My husband is a workaholic as well, he’s 59 and works outside 6-7 days a week. We own our own company. What I had to teach him, was time away is as equally important as working. You relax, recharge hang with the fam x have fun! Now we take 1 big vacation a year and 3 or 4 smaller ones. We love B and B’s found one an hour away we love and go one weekend a year and 2x a year to Florida. He finally has learned to relax. It took years. Go on picnics, get in your rafts and float. Take a weekend away or a night. Take the bull by the horns and make him take time. Beau is gonna grow up so fast. Spenser take breaks x rejuvenate. Love y’all 👶🏻🐶🐶♥️
