@@Janetsfaithtable I always Loved watching her movies when I was a child and I still Love these oldies, I’m now 62 and I Love introducing these movies to my grandchildren. They’re not always word for word according to the books which I encourage them to read these wonderful classics. However, they do stick with the heart of the story. All I know is that when my grandchildren watch these older movies I don’t have to worry about them being exposed to things they aren’t ready for yet especially the really young ones. Their innocence is intact and I let their parents talk to them about other important issues when they are ready. As their grandparent I just teach them to be good, Christians and be respectful of their elders if they deserve it.

Child actors are very few and far between who possess the gift and talent for such incredible acting as Shirley did. When she did sad, crying scenes, you feel like she was really experiencing the emotion. That, combined with her cherubic looks guaranteed her stardom.

I loved how Shirley Temple's character as the "Little Princess" was charitable with her money by giving each one a present on her birthday when it was her birthday. What was so special while working with Betsy, the servant girl, she shared so many nice things which the next-door neighbor provided a lot of good food and a lovely warm blanket and quilts to enjoy. How I relish that moment for both the Little Princess and Betsy.

I used to watch "Shirley Temple Theater" in the morning, in the early 70's, and I'll never forget when my dad popped his head in, and watched me watching, then said "You know her." "Huh, who?" I asked. He pointed at the TV, with Shirley Temple on it, "her." I was about to say "right", then I saw it, I did know her. His bosses wife at Ampex, Mrs. Black was actually 'the' Shirley Temple, and once I knew, I could see it clearly. She'd been to dinner, and I knew her from company picnics, and she was a real nice lady. Thank you so very much for sharing this video.

I agree. This is my first time seeing one of her movies, and while I have seen the other version of A Little Princess, I think Ms. Temple did a MUCH better job playing Sarah. She is very cute and endearing, without being cloying and insufferable, like some cute little girls in movies/tv shows (Michelle from Full House is an EXCELLENT example of what I mean. Her ONLY purpose for being there was to be cute.) while also showing Sarah's solemn side. She seemed more like a child and she expressed herself better. The other girl talked mostly in the same tone until the end.

I haven’t seen this movie since I was a very small child! It was so wonderfully nostalgic and warm to revisit it and remember all of it! I wish the young children of this generation had the attention span for it. There’s no loud colors or fast action or wild crazy characters. It’s a relatively simple and calm story compared to today’s kids movies. But I’m very glad I grew up with movies like this.

This movie is such a beautiful one, especially being released in 1939 alongside Gone With the Wind, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, and The Wizard of Oz to name a few. This is the culmination of Shirley Temple, and she shined with every other actor/actress in this film! Marcia Mae Jones (Lavinia) was wonderful, even though she grew to resent Sarah. For a film that preceded the Second World War is very intriguing, yet presents an accurate reflection of Victorian England, espoused in British culture. Marvelous film indeed!

There was some BS that happened to Shirley in the biz. Watching her on talk shows though, it was clear that she was not bitter nor felt ruined by it. Her mom was not the typical “ stage mother” , but rather a good support system for Shirley and it helped make a difference. She survived her “child star“ days unscathed and went on to do even more great things.

@Humphrey Hogan Why would you say such a horrible thing. You should be ashamed of yourself. Shirley Temple Black was a wonderful person that dedicated her life to serving the public, as as a child she was one of the greatest movie stars of her time.

I love Shirley Temple films. I was hoping the old bat administrator of the school would have been punished in some way. I loved that she found her father. I was so very happy. It would have been great had the father told that old bat off for mistreating his daughter. And, her teacher/caregiver and the young man I was hoping they would marry. And, the little orphan girl, I was hoping Shirley and her father would have adopted her and they all live happily ever after. But, I did enjoy the film. If I were the writer of this film I would have made some changes. Mainly with the old bat and the little orphan girl.....that Shirley, her father, and the little orphan girl were together. That Shirley would be her stepsister. My main thing would have been to embarrass the old bag and ruin her.

I am always brought to tears by the meeting with Queen Victoria. The nuances on the face of the actress who portrays the Queen reminds me that Victoria lost her father before she had been born; and that she had been abused---both verbally and by corporate discipline---at his hands. It is said that, some months prior to her 18th birthday, he even kicked her dog, Dash, whose remains are now under a very distinguished tombstone at, I believe, Buckingham Palace. The media image of Queen Victoria as a stuffy old prude, and disconnected from ordinary human sympathies, is wrong. During the Ripper murders of 1888, she even openly criticized the Home Secretary, and through him the Police Commissioner, for failing to protect the victims from those brutally heinous assaults. It is said that, after returning to whatever palace immediately after her coronation, she asked the chambermaids to bring large tub, soap, and towels; and then, pulled off her shoes and stockings, and say down on the floor and have Dash his weekly bath; explaining, to Prime Minister Melborne, that Dash's schedule was just as important to her as the post-coronation festivities, and he wasn't going to miss his bath for just that. This is the kind of girl who grew up into that old woman who is depicted as helping the Little Princess to find her Daddy.
