The producers and writers actually made a conscious choice for that; see ew.com's article "Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens EP says K-drama episode will showcase ‘hot Asian masculinity’." While it's easy to succumb to the feelings of injustice, we must support and applaud pioneers like Harry Shum, John Cho, Manny Jacinto if we wish for progress, just like all the opressed minorities before us

Yes it was bad . The people were against communism but chairman Mao and his CCP party wants to purge democratic, capitalist and traditional cultures! They force communism down people’s throats that’s why a lot of NON COMMUNIST Chinese fled to America , Hongkong , Taiwan, Singapore , Malaysia , Phil Philippines and etc. that’s why Taiwan yo to this day refuse to be a part of China . And forever will never be . But still China insist it’s theirs to take .

Also anyone educated. Such as teachers, lawyers, doctors, opposing party members were targeted. Thousands of historical books, buildings and artifacts were destroyed. Only saved by the vice premier who was trying to secretly save as much as he could. He's the reason the forbidden palace wasnt blown up.
