So this is the future. Companies are going to breed us like dogs. Making the perfect product is only half the battle now, you also have to shape people into the perfect consumer. As a further comment on that , not only are we manipulated because people know they can manipulate us . But we are equally manipulative ourselves . Ask yourself , last time you made a statement to the police or court , were you truly honest ? I always am , because I refuse to be a part of this species wide manipulation . Ask yourselves , though , have you ever left out minor details or major details when dealing with people that you NEEDED to perceive you as being the one in the right , either intellectually or causally ? Have you ever over emphasised a point to make it jump out more and grab greater attention in order to control the perception of the person you're talking to better ? Those politicians etc may be a slightly exaggerated version of us , but they are us . If we want better politicians , firstly we have to stop letting our emotions rule us and start letting evidence define the facts we see . Secondly , we ALL need to admit we could be better , and strive to be better . Maybe then , when enough of us are truly decent and honest , we will start getting more honest politicians etc and or start seeing the value of better more honest politicians . Essentially , we ALL have to be better . It is ridiculous to expect people just like us to be a shining example of morality if we won't be that ourselves . Why would they be if you wouldn;'t ?

O.K. Three main points that keep coming up in the comments I feel I have to address. Firstly: Cambridge Analytica's involvement does not absolve Russia from blame... corruption is not a zero sum game, one person being more corrupt doesn't automatically make someone else less corrupt. Secondly: Cambridge Analytica are not the British Parliament. They are a private company and have nothing to do with the government of the country they are based in. (Maybe Parliament did use them though... I mean everyone else seems to have done so why not them too?) Finally: You can't blame CNN for this one. They are just the messenger, the news story was published in full long before they got hold of it.
