Mounds Candy Bar Cake
1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate mix
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup sugar
24 large marshmallows
14 ounce bag sweetened flake coconut
1 stick butter
12 ounce bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preheat your oven following the directions on the box.
Mix the cake as directed on box. (if you want a more homemade like cake, substitute milk in place of the water, melted butter in place of the oil, and add one extra egg.) Pour the batter into a greased and floured 9” x 13” cake pan. Bake according to the directions on the cake box.
Once the cake has cooled completely, in a large saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the milk, sugar, marshmallows, and coconut stirring constantly. Immediately pour over the cake and spread to cover the cake. Allow to cool for approximately 10 minutes.
Place the chocolate chips and one stick of butter in a microwave safe bowl. Heat in 30 seconds increments, stirring after each, until the chips and butter are melted. This should take approximately 1 minute to 1 minute 15 seconds. Immediately spread over the coconut-marshmallow layer of the cake. Allow to cool so that the chocolate will set up.

Tom and Melissa, First of all, let me say that I LOVE your channel! I usually stop what I'm doing and watch your video as soon as I see a new one come up. Then, let me offer you a tip that I learned in cake decorating class almost 40 years ago: If you bake your cake at 25 degrees less and for about five minutes longer than it says on the package, it will accomplish the same thing that the cake strips do. Your cake will be super-moist and the top will be nice and level. And last of all, we would love to see some soap making tutorials. What say ye? Thanks for all of your hard work and may the Lord bless you in 2024--Suzie

When she did make something and someone asked her if it was made from scratch, she'd say, "I sure did, I scratched here and here and there!" She'd scratch her head and face. 😂 She was a hoot! I never feel bad about using a box mix. Sometimes it's just what you gotta do!

❤ Tom and Melissa, thank you for this wonderful recipe! I wanted to give you a cake hack that my Mother-in-law told me about around 35yrs ago. After you make up your cake mix, just before you pour it in the pan....add in one box of INSTANT Pudding mix and stir it in. Then bake as usual but don't over bake. Your cake will be extra moist and rich! Use a small box of any INSTANT Pudding mix to match your cake...chocolate for chocolate cake, etc. Try this and let me know...I bet you will love the cake like this.

MMMMM, this sounds so good. Thank you for your tips on using cake mix. I am a scratch baker, never use cake mix. I will have to make this and try your tips for a cake mix. I agree with you, it is important to learn to cook. I helped my mother cook and even make cakes, so I learned to cook. I know a 73 year old lady, than can not cook. She always would depend on her husband to cook, now divorced, she can not even boil water. She used to buy Bob Evans mashed potatoes. I used to tell her buy potatoes, peel them, cook them till tender, and add butter, salt pepper and milk if desired. She could not even do that. She even bought premade salads. I am so thankful that my mother taught me how to cook. My nephews both can cook very good. I never buy premade foods. I told her about all the chemicals she is eating and when you make your own food, you know what is in it. I can not wait to try this recipe. I enjoy watching you so much.

"'Children are a map of their parents,' regardless of age." First half I heard in a movie, quoted by an Indian mother. Second half I added because far too often, people are too quick to only point at today's parents. They choose to forget that today's parents were yesterday's children. If their parents didn't raise them right and teach them by example how to parent...well...what do you expect?

OK, I'm sitting at your table - story time. When my older son was in his early teens I started to teach him to make simple meals. We were a military family and we each bowled one night a week, so it was son's job to cook on those nights. His main dish was Spam, Mac & Cheese and peas. He entered the military at 17 and later fought in Desert Storm. He found his own home when he returned and his main meal was Spam Chowder. About 2 weeks ago (he is now 54, 3 adult kids, 2 grandkids. So he decided to make Spam Chowder for he and my DIL. Went for a can of evaporated milk and grabbed sweetened condensed and made it out of that. DIL calls me laughing hysterically - and I joined in but was wrinkling my nose thinking how horrible that had to taste. She has now hidden her stash of sweetened condensed milk.

Yummy! Mounds/Almond Joy is one of my favorite candy bars, this is definitely one I will make. I always use a cake mix. My thought process is the manufacturer of the cake mix has the right ratios of flour, leavening, chocolate, etc. I have used different recipes to enhance the box cake mixes with good reviews. Also, I want to say “ preach it Brother”, Kids need to be involved in the household chores, and if you don’t teach them, who will. My granddaughter had her own shovel for “poop patrol” (cleaning up after the dog) when she was 2 years old. And just the other day, my 20 mo old grand son ( from our son) was wrangling the chickens from the garden to the coop. Thank you for all your recipes and sharing your life with us.

Coconut milk works well with Chocolate Cake mix.... I haven't tried orange juice and some orange zest, but I think I'll try that next week! (I grew up as the oldest of eight children and learned to cook because my family has a Big Garden. I would be left at home to make sure that dinner was ready when everybody else got home from working in the garden. I got some peace and quiet, I didn't work nearly as hard as the gardeners were working, and I got praised for it. Cooking definitely grabbed my attention!!!!!)

They grew up to be intelligent and independent kids. When my son got married his wife couldn't cook so they swapped off with him cooking and her washing dishes. Both happy with what they did. A person shouldn't eat out all or most of the time. It's expensive and most is not healthy.Good for you to encourage independence.

I am 55 and when we was kids u had multiple chores, did it own laundry and etc. nowadays, these parents r destroying their kids. Why? Because, the video games the cell phones, computers is their Nannies. I believe it's because they don't have their kids in there face and have to interact with them they can do their own thing as if they didn't have kids. The millineums that r being raised today absolutely no nothing and it's the parents fault.. Back to your videos though, I've got my mom watching you both and she loves you guys also. You explain everything so easy. Watching your husband reminds me of how we was raised. You don't leave a smidge of anything in the bowl. My mom always would say God does not like waste, and she still says it today. Lol. Thank you, enjoy every video and receipe.

Really enjoy watching and listening to y’all. Nice couple. You cook like I do, scraping every little bit out. But I was thinking, “. You didn’t leave any for Melissa!?!”🤣🤣. That cake looks so good I must make this too. I like that you use recipes different than other you tubers. Plus, video on soap making would be AWESOME!

Nothing as good as fresh eggs! Our girls are still laying and it’s fantastic! Sometimes winter slows them down but we are still sharing this cold Jan 2024!

I love all of your recipes and stories. The one I like best is the one you said " parents need to teach their children school work and not rely on the teachers". And teach them how to do chores around the house! .

We may have gotten off the subject of our recipe a bit, but we stand by the belief that children can gain a lot of confidence for life when they can cook!

Looks delicious, will be trying this. We learned to do things at a young age and we enjoyed it all. Times are so different now with kids, very sad. Thanks Tom and Melissa, beautiful couple. Love and prayers to you all❤️💯🙏🏻💐

Wow that cake looks delicious! I'll tell you a funny story about my mother in law (she's no longer with us) but for many years she loved to bake cakes and she brought them to the hair salon once a week and even to doctor visits. Something she truly loved to do. But she always used a boxed cake mix. If people asked her if she made her cakes from scratch she would always reply "yes, I scratched the box!". Can't tell you how many times I heard her say that over the years! Happy New Year! 🎂🍰

I love watching you and hearing Melissa. You are the best one to watch. I love how you present a recipe. Some day I would like to see you do a high protein dish. I love this video because after each of you would say something about what you should teach a child, I was Amening you. You were right on. You both are my kind of people.
