IG: / rowenatsai | Recently I've been focusing on living slower (hi slow productivity • why everything I knew ... 🐢💗) and one of my favorite (rekindled) ways to do just that is through cooking. Thank you Castlery for sponsoring this video!
These days, I've found myself carving out more time to go to the grocery store-something I'd rarely do because "it's out of the way;" cooking without any podcast, audiobooks, or jams; being far more present; and all the while savoring every bite of my meal. The totality of it all is an absolute and real treat. It also made me space to ponder and reflect.
In other news, I've confirmed my love for hotteok, and it has officially become one of my favorite comfort foods. I'd love to know, what's yours? 😌

As a fellow Taiwanese American it is so comforting to hear the mix of English and Mandarin you and your mom use! It’s exactly what my phone calls with my mom sound like 🥺

*I think the hustle culture that many productivity gurus used to talk about has been vanishing for good. I have been noticing a trend after covid where people are all about doing more of what they love and trying to live a balanced life* and yes! This vlog is so relaxing and calming.

So random but I remember discovering your channel when I was like 19 and messaging you on instagram, and you were so kind, I'm nearly 24 now and I come back to your videos every time life gets hard and things fall apart. Your calmness and gratitude always puts me back on track. Thank you for continuing to make videos.

There's something beautiful about doing things without background music or sound as you give yourself the chance to embrace the silence and let the thoughts that you may have held back speak. Thank you, Rowena for a realistic and wholesome video :)

10:15 I had a similar thought about my older siblings knowing my parents. My parents were in their late 30s when they had me. I grew up hearing so many stories about them from my siblings. I recently realized that I'll never know our first house like they did, I'll never know who my mom was in her 20s etc.. As I grow into my 30s I think about her all of the time. I think about how she went through her days just as lost and unsure of the future as I am. I think it's a truth we realize as we age. 💜💜

I'm in my early 30s and have been feeling what you're feeling about your mother and grandmother, but in relation to my mom and dad. Like, now that I'm an adult and I have an adult relationship with them, I see them for what they are: adults out here doing their best. And sometimes they share things that are weighing on their minds, or things that annoy each other about the other, because they know they can tell me these things and I won't hold it against them or make it about me, or something. And it's striking to know that they had many, many years of being friends and then partners before I was even born. I've known them literally my entire life, but they're their own people outside of being "mom" and "dad," and that's what occupies my thoughts sometimes.

HI Rowena, it is a pleasure to see you slowing down. I have been with you for like 2 years, following your journey, was a super productivity train track and slammed in a wall a little before. It is good to see you grow and share that growth. Simple quiet pleasure, self care, and loved ones care. Yes, lenses, vision, perspective change along the way... for the better. Wisdom to you all. Have a good week, it is already Humpday! Love and Peace.

The thing about parents and grandparents that I’m constantly thinking about is being afraid to ask if they are happy how their life turned out. I know the answer, I know that they like their life, they will obviously say that they have me and this is enough to have, but I’ll never get the truth out of them. And I’ll never ask, cause knowing the answer can break my own hopes for my future. So we all just playing the roles of parent and child and I’ll never get to know my mom as not a “my mom” person. I hope it makes sense😅

Honestly, I think that I know my grandma better than my dad knows her at this point, she's my best friend. I never met my maternal grandma though and I think about that a lot because my mom was obsessed with her and I wish we could have shared that love for her. It's hard to know what your children's relationships with family will be like until you have them. My thing is that my kids will never know me as a non-mother, I'll never know my mom as a 25 year old after her first divorce partying in L.A. and I really wish I could!

It's always been interesting to me to think about the fact that women are born with all the eggs they will have in their life. So my mom carried the egg that would become half of me when my grandma was pregnant with her. So my grandma carried my mom carrying half of me and halves of my sisters. I think there's a special connection there. And my mom carried my sister carrying the egg that is making up half of my niece or nephew as (s)he grows and prepares to enter the world.

I understand the idea of mindful cooking and eating, but putting on (for example) a funny podcast while cooking is so much fun. What do you prioritize - joy or mindfulness?
@gracek7820
@gracek7820 2 жыл бұрын
Mindfulness creates joy for her (and many of us). She is not saying you can't do that - she is just highlighting the fact we are often made to feel like if we are not optimising EVERY moment we have then it is wasted time. E.g taking in information from a podcast while cooking. Her point is sometimes just to be really present and enjoy the task and the simplicity of it, the sounds of the frying pan sizzling etc.. it can be really calming in a busy world :) prioritise whatever you feel is right for you though!
