Hi. I guess I’m possibly one of the oldest of people viewing on your channel. At the age of 56 I’m learning how to create comics - and finding your videos both highly informative and helpful. On this video you share that it’s takes you about a month to write about 300 hundred pages of script. Could you give me a rough idea of how many comic pages this relates to? 🙂🇬🇧

hi niel! i'm just a fellow beginning comic creator, but when it comes to the amount of pages, it really depends on the structure of your scripts as well as how it depends on the person. if you write a 300-page script of just scene ideas, it could be anywhere between 20-200+ pages of a comic depending on how long these scenes actually will be. if you write a 300-page script structured like a stage play, with dialogue, scenes, and actions, it will probably be less pages since obviously this will take up more words, and thus more pages. good luck in making your comic!

If you don’t mind me asking: How do you structure your script? Do you write it like a script for something like a movie or animation. Or do you describe the panels like writing in literature. Keep up the great videos btw your advice is so helpful!

AMcGinty I’m just a fellow commenter, but I suggest making bullet points or “scenes” briefly written out so sort out the story aspect, and then forming tiny thumbnails (with basic shapes and stick figures) to get the idea of how it should look visually.

I'm currently writing a script using Character Story Planner 2. It actually has a little tab for scripts (but no format). I organize my scripts by scene and usually just the dialogue broken up by actions written in brackets. It's mostly there to give me a general idea of what I want to do. I also kind of switch between writing and sketching out certain scenes (especially certain scenes that have no idea). Nothing fancy, just stick figures and lines of action. Helps me get a better idea on how I want the scene to flow.

My favorite part about all these videos on scripting is that there is clearly no script to end the video. "I think you guys are pretty alright. I don't know what to say." And I love that every one of these videos ends with "Okay bye." 👍😄

Man, I’ve always wanted that. Working with a partner in art is always something that’s interested me, but I’m horribly bad at making friends, so the privilege isn’t mine just yet! But someday I wanna be like you guys!

Im new to comics, but for animation Im working on a series and I outlined the general plot of the series first, getting arcs and villains in order, then after tweaking I started writing the pilot. All the while, I like to update the story bible, which I use to keep track of character and world information.

Thanks man this really helped im kind of starting this webcomic called " Kara Saves the World " which i have been kind of putting off as i had this mindset of my art style wasnt as realistic or comparable with theirs. But im finally going to try and make something with this idea and flesh it out more. Listened to this while thinking of a logo/Character design.

I spent a year and a half on my script for my Graphic Novel and rewrote it 2 times. The first time I rewrote it when I was close to inking my comic. It hurt seeing all my work go to waste. The second time, I rewrote it again while I was on the new first draft due to harsh criticism but it was easier to rewrite it because it is true, rewriting and editing drafts are way easier and faster than editing finished pages that most likely will go to waste. SO yeah I think having a clear script is truly important to the story but again.. Writing is subjective!

@kylemayonnaise
@kylemayonnaise 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, just keep going! It’s ok to move on before it’s perfect. You could always go back and edit the first panel later on. Just keep going and create a work flow. That’s how I write my stories. The first sentence/paragraph is always the hardest so I just write whatever comes to mind and go from there. Then I go back and edit if needed.

How do you stop rewriting your scripts because honestly I make so many changes from what I had assumed is my "final" script till I actually finished drawing the page that when I look at the pages and the script it's just so different
@jjj7790
@jjj7790 3 жыл бұрын
If you're making a comic, your script is just a tool to make your comic page. Once the comic page is done, it's not needed, so it doesn't really matter if it's different from the final page. There's lots of movies and TV shows where the script is different from what actually ended up on screen. Comics are not that different.
