Awesome, so this is like a cheaper version of the Deity V-Mic D3 Pro as well as the Rode. I think if that deadcat is anything like the old Rode videomic deadcat, you're meant to put it over the foam pop-filter it's quite snug and stops the thing from flopping around the mic in the wind if it changes direction. :-)
@TLDR_filmmaker3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Neil! Ya know... I think it is! I don't have a D3 Pro to test but if I remember correctly it was somewhat similar in feature set... I think the D3 had some sort of "standby auto on" mode, but it drained batteries in this mode vs the RØDE that did not. Oh shoooooot I did not think of that about the deadcat, that makes total sense! I wonder if that messes with the sound a little and become more muffled going from the fur and through the foam. Either way, wonderful to know!
@ChrisSpiegl3 жыл бұрын
@@TLDR_filmmaker You are right about the stand by mode of the D3 Pro… it was driving me insane. Since it's kinda pretending to have a out off but really it does not. I actually would recommend anybody: if you have the budget, go for the Rode VideoMic NTG. Otherwise a mic without any auto off is better than one with half a auto off 🙈. This one sounds great in that regard and in comparison to how I remember my D3 Pro.

Once again...a concise and methodical review. This mic has been sitting in my Amazon wish list for over a month. I have watch many reviews, but after watching your review, this mic is certainly for me. I have a Canon M50 and a DJI Pocket II. If I had a $3500.00 Sony A7III or a Canon R5, I would get the RODE. The higher end equipment would assuredly justify a higher end mic. Thanks again!

As usually, you make very good analysis: concise and methodical, going to the point of interest. Please, I would like to know your opinion between Comica CVM-VM20 and Boya BY-BM3031. Thanks!
@TLDR_filmmaker3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Felipe! I can't really answer this question as I don't have experience with the Boya. My best advice is to listen to as many tests from other reviews as possible and see which one you like the sound of, and then compare it to the price point and features to see if it fits your budget, since both are quite different in price. The only real major difference is the battery. The Boya would be easier to swap, but the Comica lasts so long that it probably doesn't matter. So in my opinion, I would listen to tests, see which you like better and go with that one.

@TLDR_filmmaker3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again David! The RØDE is one heck of a versatile mic, if this Comica had the same Auto On feature I think it would have pushed its value that much further. The other features outside of that one is a bit more specialized for more active creatives. The M1 is definitely very similar to the RODE micro, the only difference is that it has a much higher sensitivity as there are some other similar ones out there that people have reviewed against the Micro.

Time for you to go see Oh-Shawg-Hennessey LOL! I've had the VideoMic NTG for a month and I just had to send it back to Rode to get fixed for a busted 3.5mm jack. The Rode comes with a 10-year warranty which is insane. It's worth the extra $$ for the auto on/off and the safety track has already saved my arse more than once. The Comica does sound really good and is a great value though, especially since the wind muff for the Rode adds another $40. Thanks for your video!

Hey Hey again on camera person I don't know the name of! I have the Rode VideoMic NTG, and use it all the time. I wasn't in the market for this, but I watched it anyway because your videos are always great. I never heard of Comica until recently. Great review! VERY helpful. I just subbed and added you to my content creator playlist on YT. I have a question though: What set up did you use to hook up the mic to your Tascam recorder? I was thinking that maybe you had to use some kind of TRS female to XLR male adapter. I got one for the purpose of connecting my Comica CVM-VM10II, which is the smaller, unpowered shotgun mic they have. It didn't work very well though. And I'm pretty sure it is because it doesn't have a strong enough signal to bust through whatever resistance in the the TRS to XLR adapter. All that to say, I'd REALLY appreciate it if you'd give me the skinny on your set up and any insights you might have. Thanks! Keep on making the great content!
@TLDR_filmmaker Жыл бұрын
Hey hey Shawn! You are correct in that I used a simple female 3.5mm to XLR adapter. Because this mic supplies its own power, you only need a passive one. For your Comica VM10II that requires plug-in power. You need a 3.5mm to XLR adapter that coverts phantom power. I use the RODE VXLR+. I have a review of that here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o8t0Y9p-zcXXpZ8.html

I'm going to be vlogging outside, unfortunately i have a cohost i don't want. CRICKETS!!!!! What can I do to eliminate the cohost in the background? I'm thinking start with shotgun mic, I'm using Lumafusion to edit.
@TLDR_filmmaker2 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Messiahs Men! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Unfortunately there is no way to do it with that setup, especially with lumafusion. You're always going to hear the co-host a little bit even if you don't have the shotgun mic pointed at them. You could do very sly editing to mask out their voice, but thats going to be a lot of work and you'll need to capture a lot of "ambient" tone on your mic to make the edit sound natural. The easiest way to negate this is if you can talk to your co-host and work out a compromise or something. To try and do it in the edit will be a nightmare and requires a lot of forthought on the day of filming and a lot of time trying to play with audio levels and layering additional ambient sounds to make things seemless. TLDR: Just talk to your co-host and don't try to passively address the issue. If he/she is your co-host than you need to talk and work it out together to see why you don't want them to be heard in the first place. If they don't know how you're feeling about their co-host abilities, then nothing ever gets done, projects gets tainted, and no one moves forward to better things. Just talk to them. @TLDR_filmmaker3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Paulo! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I think it depends on how you'd like to use a shotgun mic for a wedding. If you will be using it for getting peoples audio on the fly during a reception just to get their congratulations, the shotgun should be fine as long as you're not over 2ft away from them. If you are using it for scratch audio only on the camera thats going to be matched up with the lavs and not be used as principle audio, Id say go for something much cheaper like a RODE videomicro. For me personally if I did weddings, I probably would have a powered shotgun mic like this as an emergency use case as most things I will be doing is being recorded wirelessly and internally with a RODE GO II. And then I would have a RODE Micro on my camera to get someone directional scratch audio and ambiences for later edits. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! That being said, even with the windmuff placed in the wrong way it still did the trick in cutting down the wind from my mouth at close range. I can only imagine that placing it over the foam would further increase its efficiency. So this is why I never took it down and reuploaded a new video as the test would show the same result. I understand this is probably not a suffice answer, but I did learn something from this video and will do better next time if I come across an accessory that doesn't look like what I'm used to seeing with windmuff covers.
