I have a collection of 60+ short boxes and am very deliberate/obsessive about how I organize them. First of all, everything is alpha-numerical, I currently have the collection separated into “20th Century”, “21st Century”, “2017-present” (when I started a regular pull list), and also have a magazine box, previews box, promo box, for sale box and “current arcs” box. I also have a specific system for adding new books to the collection, I keep the current arcs in their own box and when an arc ends, if it’s a one shot, or an odd variant, they go into another box and at the end of the month they all get added into the collection where they belong, I also keep a “haul box” where I put back issues that I pick up and when that box fills, they get added where they belong in the collection. I also have a plan for this year to separate the collection by era/age, a gold/silver, bronze, copper, late 90s/early 00s, “modern” and “pull list/2017-present” so that working through the collection is a little more compartmentalized, I also have a plan after that to go through the entire collection (6k+) and add note cards to specific book inside the bag behind the board to notate any key factors, personal factors or interesting information for each specific book, and also plan to add a small yellow sticker for key issues and a green sticker if it’s an undeniably valuable book. The purpose behind this is for several reasons, first to satisfy my own organizational preferences, to have fun and interact with my collection, and so that if anything ever happens to me, it’s clear what books are valuable or important and so that if anyone ever looks through this full collection they’ll know exactly why every book is in there and if there’s anything important in there. As you can see, I love having fun with the collection and organization is a very important thing to me. Thanks for reading all this and hopefully it gives some folks some new ideas! I have been using 3ring binders with magazine sleeves.

I organize my collection alphabetically, every year I organize putting the new books sorted into the collection.

I've been going through my comics the last 2 days taping all the flaps down and trying to somewhat organize them. It's been a pain but I've enjoyed being reminded of different comics I've bought and forgotten about.

Instead of getting dividers, just use post-it notes. I use them to separate by publisher. When I begin at a new publisher, I just put an upside down post-it with the DC, MARVEL, IMAGE, ETC.... written on it.

I'm looking to start using a filling cabinet.

6 Graphic Short boxes, sorted alphabetically. I usually let my pile of read single issues build up for a few weeks and then sort them all at once to save time. For my trades and graphic novels, they are sorted by publisher.

Straight-up alphabetical for me - with dividers for every title. Each comic within each title is also in numerical order. Lastly, I have also scanned every comic into my CLZ App...so I can track each one that I own and need and/or want in a series/my collection. In the end, I can find ANY comic in 30 seconds to under one minute. Oh...and I never overstuff. Yes...I’m a nerd - but I’m an ORGANIZED nerd lol.🖖🏼

I have mine alphabetically organized. I don't have separate boxes for independent books ( I used to) but now I have them all together

I have a 5 drawer filing cabinet for my current runs in alphabetical order from top to bottom then a book shelf with my favorite old runs then short boxes organized in alphabetical order and one final cabinet in my basment with older non finished runs.

I use CLZ. Its on my computer, laptop, tablet and phone. I add books to the program, that updates all devices. I use mostly short boxes which I number starting with 001, 002, 003, ect! I assign the box location in CLZ then each box is in alphabetical order. I can find any comic by bringing it up on my phone, going to the assigned box location, then alphabetically. I can find any book in my collection in minutes. When I want to brows, each comic is displayed in all its glory along with a ton of information right on my phone or other device! Currently, I have about 40 boxes of comics. This works great for me.

I have an extra room filled with action figures and the closet were you would usually have your shirts, t-shirts, etc. is were I have my collection of everything prior to 2019. In the large spaces I have 4 lines that would be similar to 4 short boxes. One line is Batman, Second line Amazing Spiderman, third line Uncanny X-Men and the forth line is mostly Spawn and the early image titles and a lot of Groo. I then have 4 drawers. One for Other Batman stuff, mini series, one shots, etc. Second drawer is for Superman and JL. Third Drawer other X-Men related stuff and finally last drawer for Indy. Out of the closet I have one large box with 2020-2021 stuff.

My bronze age books are in alphabetical order and I just label my boxes numerically. Its easier than changing the alphabet on my boxes every time my collection grew. When i started collecting new books about 5 years ago I became lazy and just throw them in boxes unorganized. I can sort them out when I retire. lol I keep my newer books separate for my bronze age books. All my silver age and older books are kept in a file cabinet.

I have some organized by publisher and then alphabetical. But I also got overloaded and now have a few boxes that are still bubble wrapped without being read, that now have to find a new home. I like the start a new box instead of rearranging them every new issue, that would take ages.

Wow, nice collection. I sold mine off about 6+ years ago 5,500+ comics. My son had zero interest so I took the money and got him a good guitar.Had multiple Spiderman clone runs and a ton of stuff that is ridiculously priced now. I kept a small hand full and now have started collecting again about 6 months ago. I only collect artist I like and some writers. I like going through Previews for new art and books. I also buy a lot more trade paperbacks as now I prefer to be a reader. Keep reading, writing and drawing

Thanks Mike that was awesome my new comics get bagged and boarded and put into shoe boxes marvel, DC, and independent some times multiple shoe boxes then when they’re full I transfer them to long long boxes buy titles but I’m at the point where I have heaps of full shoe boxes and no room in the long boxes 🤔

I have comics I buy just for the cover art in their own short boxes ( I hate longboxes now, my back can't take them). I have all my title and series collections also organized in short boxes. Some are stored on a shelving unit in another room, the others in my room.

I'm rebuilding a destroyed comic collection so I only have around a short box full right now but I kinda just have each publisher together in the box

I do mine in a similar fashion except not alphabetized. I have about 6 or 7 short boxes that makes up my entire collection. I keep DC and marvel separated and then I'll bundle things together like all spiderman, hulk, avengers, iron man, batman, spawn, etc. Need to reorganize and maybe alphabetize them b4 my collection gets any bigger.

Yep, definitely a chore. I have DC, Marvel and Indy boxes. Try to keep runs and events together, KiB has created a mess with some series. Spider Woman is in 2 different boxes and I just haven't gone back to fix it, along with a couple other series.

So just a tip for those over stuffers or actually for anyone really. I store my comics like this: 1 issue facing forward next book facing opposite direction next one forward, next one backwards. It takes time but it eliminates books getting that lip on the spine of the book, ultimately ruining the book and making it require a press.

Mine are all on the bunk... over filled, with dividers and by series. Didn’t do alphabetical as tie ins really messed that up lol.

I have 2 boxes of crappy comics from my childhood. And I have about 4 boxes of vintage books organized by series. Then I have about 4 boxes of random new stuff mixed with extremely valuable keys in comic toploaders... I'm going to buy a cheap fireproof safe for those books in toploaders. And I need to organize the new stuff... I've organized the new stuff pretty nicely but for example... there might be 2 boxes with a group of comics from 1 series. Hard to explain.

Since they love to reset back to #1s, it gets quite frustrating, I just put them in piles by character, example, ASM, IronMan, Thor, Venom, etc.

I alphabetically store my books by titles per box( 3months worth at a time per year, Jan- March)

Mine pile up for a month or so on my reading table until I give a big sigh and actually do something about them.. Mine are all in alphabetical order, I have 12 short boxes at the moment but I’m adding about a box a month. I feel you on just adding another box though because I’ve been going through the trouble of keeping every run together in alphabetical order which means I have to reorganize all of my boxes every time I do it. It is a pain in the rear end but to me that is the only way I’m going to keep track of where everything is in a collection that is growing rapidly..

MIKE, I'm not sure where your going to put more boxes. They are already stacked three to four high. I bought an Industrial five shelf rack that will hold my long boxes.

Personally I like to go by publisher. Then franchise. But if the franchise has been done by multiple publishers I'll go franchise, then publisher. It definately helps that I only collect hardbacks and TPBs

I have an app called CLZ were i scan all my comics in my phone. Then i put them in short boxes in the the oder CLZ put them . Dividers on some main titles. CLZ a little pricey but well worth it. You can sort by many different way publisher,

I have about 5,000 comics, just in boxes no real order. I have sheets of paper on a clipboard that lists everything in a particular box 😂

I see the big thing for you Mike is that you are in Florida, you have to be very careful with Heat and moisture, especially them being in your garage. You have a large collection and may not even notice them going bad.

I sort alphabetically by publisher. I have 17 long boxes full.I used to stuff mine full too but it leaves compression marks on the spine. They usually press out but I don’t overstuff them anymore. I leave plenty of room and use a statue box if it’s not full yet so they don’t fall.

Superman or Batman series of books (title then year) number or Super S Shield number. If it is an event like X of Swords then by number of said event. Old school Marvel team Up, DC Comics Presents (Superman & Wonder Woman), & Brave & the Bold have their own boxes. I have a few boxes on the floor right now as I just got my 1st COVID protection shot. My energy is low & my arm is sore!

I haven't organized my books for the past 3 months since we bought our house and I'm dreading it. I got dividers and alternate books and I have them all set up by runs. If there is a high dollar book in a run that's where that book sits so I know where its at.

Nowhere near as many comics as you Mike but l box mine alphabetically regardless of publisher . I also put one issue face front (staples on the left) and the following one face front but upside down (so the staples are on the left) . Having a big bunch of staples all on the left hand side is a big no-no for me . If a title gets enough issues it gets its own dedicated box .

I used to organize them alphabetically and not separating any by publisher or anything. Now with 13 short boxes that's getting to be too much work and I think I'm going to switch to your method of just alphabetically filling a box then when its filled start a new one. Thanks!

Marvel-DC-Independent However I have all my female titles separated into their own collection (Spider Woman, Black Widow etc). Then everything is by eras Silver,Bronze,Modern.

It's funny - organizing and cataloging is one of my favorite parts of the hobby. It's like a nice bonus on top of the reading and hunting to be able to shuffle things around, record them in logs, and all the other little nit-picky things. My current system is I keep all of my un-read issues in one area, then once they're read I bag and board, they instantly go in a box. I break out the main characters of my collection (so I have separate boxes for Wonder Woman, Batman, Batgirl, Catwoman, and the Spider-Family), then everything I do alphabetically by title/character, then by volume if necessary. If I feel like a part of the 'everything else' side gets to be too large, then I break it out into a dedicated Character/title/team set of boxes.

I have less than 50 books at this time so I'm still good for storage and looking after them. I didn't know about bagging and boarding 2 months ago... keep it up Mike, and thank you for the video!

I use the graphic short boxes the majority of my books and BCW for my virgin covers and graded books. I do alternate there placement in the box front to back.

I just recently started putting my comics in the box i store them front to back to prevent spine stress, it also let's me store more comics this way and it never tight when full unlike if you have them facing all in the front

I organize mine pretty simple really. I have them separated in DC, Marvel and then everything else. Everything is in alphabetical order and the short boxes are on metal and plastic shelves that lining the wall. We have 3 girls and when the two oldest moved out my wife "allowed me" to have one of the spare rooms for everything.

I organize my boxes by publisher then alphabetical by series. Some of my “indie” boxes have multiple publishers (ablaze, scout, etc) so I divide those up and then alphabetical by series.

Thanks for doing this video. I recently gained full use of my comic room after finally getting all my wife's stuff moved out of it and have started the long overdue organizing process. I will suggest you get some shelving for your boxes, it makes everything much more accessible.

Lol I have wayyyy too many comics that haven't been properly organized yet. Sometimes that seems like a full time job in itself. But I like to organize by publisher and character. And switching to short boxes was the best thing I ever did. The long boxes were always such a hassle

Man, I used to have such a hard time with this. Then I switched to just doing it alphabetical. Mixed publishers and everything. Then I just added sticky notes when a letter changes. I also took my stuff out of boxes and put them on ikea shelves. Great way to see what you have and access anything quickly. No worries about damage this way. Edit. My method tends to work well for collections under 2000. Unless you have the space for tons of shelves. I have just over 1000 books and it's perfect for me.

Ive recently got back into collecting. I currently have one long box and several random cardboard boxs holding the rest of my collection. I need to purchase some short box's and organize! It was nice to see your method. I may take it under advisement :)

Been waiting to see this video from you, Slayer! I organize mine by universe and by title. Never cross the "beams" so to speak, as you have done. LOL! Sometimes I'll mix some Indy with the big two, but that's because I don't have enough Indy to fill their own box. I orient them to avoid spine roll, but also tend to overfill boxes at times. I need a better system, and I hesitate to say this, but I need to cull my collection as well. Just too many books, and not enough space...

I actually enjoy it when I have my dividers, my lcs hasn't gotten any for a few months, so thing's are starting to get out of control

All mine are in longboxes by publisher (marvel, dc, image, boom, other indies) then in alphabetical order for the most part. Lately it has been more by year though as well because I have been getting comics for a looooooong time so i have about 50 long boxes now. Sheesh that is alot.
