For Battle of Wits, there is an Acorn commander that you can rule zero to build around it. Cant remember her name, but basically she says that tokens dont disappear when changing zones (so if you have a card to shuffle your graveyard into your library, you can make a huge deck filled with tokens)

I won with a stolen Revel in Riches one time. The table thought I only had 9 Treasures, but they forgot about Glittering Stockpile. : )

Back in the New Phyrexia era of EDH (2011-ish), an opponent used Bribery on me and took Blightsteel Colossus. I took that personally and cast a kicked Rite of Replication on it and got five One Shot Robots.

My favorite achievement I’ve managed is once in my random zombie deck I managed to win by using sign in blood to mill out an opponent. Felt fantastic.

I have Helix Pinacle in my Yurlok deck. I filled it with plenty of mana doublers, and it serves as a nice mana sink to avoid taking mana burn from Yurlok

I took out the table with a vorpal sword on an unblockable rouge the other day. The mood at the table instantly deflated as they watched me pick them off 1 by 1 . The whole time i was hoping someone had removal😅

I hit a bucket list achievement in the last year - I won with 0 life in my Selenia Suicide Life Swap deck. I cast Angel's Grace so I couldn't lose and my opponents couldn't win, then used Bolas's Citadel to cast Repay in Kind and, with it on the stack, used Necropotence to burn my life to zero. Repay in Kind resolved, and all players dropped to 0 life, which left me as the sole survivor.

nothing felt better than actually getting World slayer to do it's thing. I promptly lost 3 turns later, but man, that was one of my top 3 favorite Magic moments.

Checked off a point just last night. Used Patriar's Seal, Lithoform Engine, and Dynaheir, Invoker Adept to Encore a Phyrexian Triniform 4 times!

My favorite thing like this that I have done was cast hive mind and then glorious end to make the person sitting to my right lose at the end of there next turn

Mine was getting to 500 billion scute swarms and I finally did it. The sheer majesty of it all was breathtaking. ✨

@Matt I would highly recommend looking into playing Oops, All Myojins! They're such a goofy archetype and really hard to play efficiently, since you have to cast them from your hand to get any value out of them, but if you can play a couple of them they have such giant splashy effects you're sure to have a good time. I'm running the new Omnath as a 5-colour commander that can give you a mana discount (since all the Myojin have three pips naturally) but there's a bunch of other options for whatever takes your fancy.

Regarding stealing other people's wincons - I fairly recently had a game where a player with a Kalamax deck cast Eternal Dominion, copied it twice while on the stack, and pulled Sanguine Bonds + Exquisite Blood + an ETB lifegain creature out of an opposing deck to drain the entire table. Had to applaud that one, hell of a stylish way to win!

I recently build a chandra deck with "Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh" as my commander, so the two new things on my bucket list are getting her to ult and killing someone with commander damage with "Luxior, Giada's Gift". A really memorable moment, that kinda fits aswell was when I played my Trostani, Selesnya's Voice deck and made copies with helm of the host and we decided to let that game end with a draw, since someone swapped his lifepoints with me. So we both then had around 10000 life :D

Bucketlist decks of mine are "the most complicated deck to pilot" or "trading post.deck" where every card has 2+ activated abilities or 3+ modes on instants/sorceries, and "your party has entered the dungeon, roll for initiative" where the pilot gets to put the table on an adventure where the creatures you play have bonuses for being destroyed for your opponents

I'm working towards making my Roon deck 100% bling - combination of artist proofs, artist signed, and altered cards. I'd love to get my Syr Carah deck 100% foil, sadly some older cards don't have foil options.

Helix Pinnacle could be a good wincon in a Kruphix, God of Horizons deck. Mana not emptying from your mana pool means you can keep adding to it, then double it with cards like Doubling Cube!

My first bucket list goal, was to win the game with price of progress. Had to remake my entire riku deck for it to not kill me too. But now it is one of my favorite ways to win the game

My current number 1 bucket list item is also with Phage. Someday, I am going to give Phage a Vorpal Sword and use it to double-murder someone.

Finally, I convinced a table to resolve a radiant performer cast trigger targeting chaos warp. Every time I've tried it, people have scooped because it would be too much to resolve (it is) so getting to resolve it really made me happy

There's a lot of things that I have to say about this episode, mainly that it's amazing. I love seeing the emotion that yall show in these bucket list items. As far as recently, I have begun loving the fact that I can walk away with stories from the games that I have played. Things like going to 7 life against a Ghyrson Starn deck and winning at 39 life, or winning a game with -31 life (both done with my Mortarion deck), or winning a game with a full burn turn with my Solphim deck, or legit tying a game TWICE with Descent into Avernus. As far as a Rule Zero set of commanders, a friend of mine played Heiko and Norika as partners and while I didn't like playing into it, Boros noncreatures was pretty interesting of an idea to go through. On the topic of cEDH, I've been looking into getting into it myself and as someone who also loves the combat step, I think Slicer voltron/stax might be a good place to start for you Matt. You're not TECHNICALLY doing the attacking, but Slicer does all the work for you.

Just last month I met a bucket list of foiling my two oldest EDH decks Jodah, The Archmage Eternal and Sheoldred, Whispering One. Adding the last foils for each deck was sooo satisfying I love goldfishing them as much as I love playing them :]

I have tasks that are considered 'doing the thing' here are few: 1. House Rule that if I control everyone's Sol Ring in Thada Adel, I win [DONE] 2. Brash Taunter + Chain of Plasma [DONE] 3. Hedron Alignment [DONE] but in Modern 4. Biovisionary [DONE] 5. Repay in Kind [DONE]

Joey, if I had a kid, I'd hope they'd be as good at deck building as you. Some day I hope to play against you at a convention.

I managed to win by milling my opponents in my Abdel Adrian, Gorian’s Ward/Far Traveler mono white blink deck last month and that was an achievement unlocked for sure

I've done Biovisionary a few times in Lonis, and I did manage to get an infinite turn cycle using Sage of Hours without infinite mana once. I even won a game on upkeep with zero cards in library, thanks to some Shrine triggers. The two things that are more likely unique to me are one-shotting someone for lethal commander damage on turn 3 with Auntie Blyte by shooting myself in the face for 19 with a Volcano Hellion. The other is a turn one Swamp into One With Nothing, if only for the sheer audacity of it. Things that will probably be on the list: win via infinite Undercity in Abdel Adrian, storming out in Myra the Magnificent with an imprinted Command Performance, connecting with a massively buffed Electrostatic Pummeler, actually win with Happily Ever After and not keep screwing it up with bad decisions, fire off a Lux Artillery in...anything, really, and win via Toggo rock to the dome. I'm sure there will be more in the future, but these are the ones I think are actually within my grasp.

Ok joey here's a fun concept for your narrative changing commander deck. Boros planar chaos akroma. When you would cast your commander you flip a coin to see if you get the red or white classic akromas. If you want to add the newer partner akroma roll a d3 (1+2,3+4,5+6) to see which angelic host is bringing "salvation" to your opponents.

I won a game once with [[Biovisionary]] in my [[Esix, Fractal Bloom]] deck. Achievement Unlocked!

One of the coolest kill i had was with phage. I played an emrakul to take my friend’s turn, ninjutsu in his ink-eyes, servant of oni to reanimate the phage in my graveyard. Phage truly is a cool card to throw in decks

You could also do the Fracture Identity trick with the Leveler (exiles your library on ETB)

NYC used to be an insane place to visit. It was the city that never sleeps, literally. You could go to a restaurant for dinner dining at 8, stop at a bar for some drinks at 9:30, hit up a club at 1 that was just getting good, go to an after hours club at 6AM and grab brunch at 11. It's been a while since I have ventured there living just outside in NY. I know it's changed though and sadly not for the better 😢

My top bucket list items are to: Build a deck in each color combination Win a game out of no where with multiple Skirk Fire Marshall activations Build a deck with less than 10 spells Win a game without ever casting a commander And, as of about ten minutes ago, win with Mortal Combat before Joey (I just need to add some enchantment recursion to my Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord deck, I think). My checked off bucket list items are: Create more tokens than there are dice in the universe to track them (over 2000 copies of Adrix and Nev) Kill all three opponents in the same turn, but all in different ways (mill, commander damage, combat damage, loose conditions, etc.) Recur Door to Nothingness to kill a second opponent. Take more turns than the rest of the table combined. Build a creatureless deck (minus commander)

Recent bucket list achievements: having 9 Nazgul in play at the same time in Lord of the Nazgul due to clone effects (still haven’t had all 9 art in play at once, but hopeful of hitting that); closing out a game in my Teysa, Orzhov Scion deck by casting Gary and following up with Saw in Half, which I put on my bucket list the moment that card was spoiled.

I'll never forget once being able to actually pull off a Happily Ever After win. It was in my Shrines deck and I engaged in no hostile action until I self-milled and got cards on the board to meet the requirements. Felt so good hahaha

Wow and now I have a new card for a pauper deck and I loved Mega Man 3 😂. Also have you all ever built an alt win deck for commander meaning piling a bunch of these to try to only win by alt win con and who is the commander?

Magus luccea is great with helix pinnacle especially if you untap her once or twice

Easily my favorite achievement unlocked was having doubling cube out with some mana rocks, a seedborn muse, and kruphix my commander. Double my mana pool, double, double, dump it into a helix pinnacle to win on my upkeep.

I once played a game where someone played a roil elemental, the next player played a phyrexian metamorph copying roil elemental, then played a land to steal the original. The next person played a spark double, copying the second players roil elemental, and then played a land stealing that roil elemental then sending the original roil elemental back to its original owner. The game as you can imagine only got harder to follow from there. So copying and then stealing a roil elemental is definitely a bucket list type item!

I like how they put the twitter portraits in an EDHrec border; makes it seem like I can get a “Sheldon Menery” card someday.

So far my most satisfying moments are managing to actually win a game with Korlash grandeur combo to vomit out every swamp in the deck into Ob Nixilis, getting a Ramses win by stealing someone else’s combat trick with Imp’s Mischief, and managing to get a kill with Walking Ballista damage not with its ability but with Fling since sometimes it’s about sending a message. Now I want most of all to win by stealing someone else’s win condition.

If you Rule 0 "Claire D'Loon, Joy Sculptor" from Unfinity to be playable as your commander you could actually be able to win with "Battle of the Wits" as she changes all your tokens into permanents. Then you just shuffle them back in your deck and BOOM, winning with "Battle of Wits". And yes, it actually is a deck idea I have dabbled with, hence my specific knowledge about this particalur interaction between the two cards.

47:05 No worries, Matt; winconless stax is a thing in CEDH. Play cards that stop your opponent's from doing crazy things while beating them in the face with them. Infact, I won my third CEDH game with Akroma, Angel of Wrath, as a winconless stax beater strat.

My favorite Rite of Replication moment is playing it on Academy Manufactor while Adrix & Nev is on the battlefield. Now I have 11 Acady Manufactors, so each Food, Clue, or Treasure I create becomes 59,049 of each of them!

My greatest Commander achievement is reaching what I called Magic Nirvana, winning a game with both 0 life and 0 cards in deck. Lich's Mastery is one hell of a card in a Vilis deck

A Barren Glory win is my last remaining commander bucket list item.

I built helix pinnacle into my shigeki turbo fog deck. You can build the deck with insane recursion of all card types and thus tons of ramp, removal and fogs. So fun

Challenge the Stats suggestion: Eligeth, Crossroads Augur in Galadriel of Lothlorien (currently in 24% of decks). While turning scrys into draws seems like all upside, Eligeth in fact negates a lot of the scry synergies that are integral to Galadriel's strategy, be it the other LoTR elves whose abilities trigger when you scry or card advantage engines like The Temporal Anchor. While not a full-blown nombo, Eligeth is asynergistic in the deck and nerfs some of the decks key synergies.

I once killed someone with commander damage in my Estrid, the Masked deck. The trick is to used imprisoned in the moon to turn her into a land, and then animate her with Destiny Spinner. I was already at such a massive board presence that I could have killed even without this ridiculousness, but I wanted to make it happen, and I'm so glad I did.

Last week won an all in Game of Chaos! I was in a winning position, so another player played GoC against me and dared to go all in. I said yess immediately. I wouldn’t have minded to loose on the spot, just the experience of it was amazing. Certainly one thing off of my bucket list. I also managed to win with Biovisionary for the first time in my clones deck recently. This Deck has been around for years now and it finally did the thing: Win with a cloned four off in a singleton format.

Mayael's Aria win : Aragorn the uniter with a +1/+1 counter, Beginning of upkeep, Mayael's effect goes on the stack, in response you cast berserk on aragorn it becomes a 10/10 due to it's effect, berserk turns it into a 20/10. Congrats

if you really want to win with Helix Pinnacle, using Arixmethes as the commander and making infinite green with Freed from the Real/Pemmin's Aura works very well. i pull that off all the time

I've still never gotten a chance to win a game (Modern, Standard, Commander, whatever) using Coalition Victory from Invasion block. I've loved that set since release, and really wanted to build a deck using all 5 multicolor dragons from that set. That might actually be the next deck I build, just to see if I can pull it off. I have all 5 Dragons, as well as all of their Lairs, Attendants, and Charms (unless there are other named items I'm missing, but I don't think so).

Glad that Rite of Replication got a shout out, I'm really hoping to kick it on a Scourge of Valkas one day so that I can kill the table in one go. I've killed the table with another player's Syr Konrad. I went for an alpha strike and gained a ton of life, but I left the Konrad player at 1 and got the other two players below 10. Then when I wiped the board and had at least 10 creatures die, killing the other two players while my life total sat closer to 30. The Konrad player drew a swamp on his turn and promptly scooped.

OH! I have myself a really fun OOPS! Deck. It’s OOPS! All creatures with Volo Guide to monsters. No repeats types, no legends. 63 creatures, 36 lands, 1 Volo. I love it.

My "bling" deck would actually almost be anti-bling: I would LOVE to have a deck that is 100% proxies, with me drawing all the custom art. Mainly, I just think it'd be nice to have the time to do something like that :)

've pulled off the phage combo exactly 1 time, but then I have also phaged myself off a Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire trigger... Which was my favorite death in any game I have played, lol

Hindering someone's Rest in Peace to follow up next turn with a Tunnel Vision to mill them out with my Slogurk deck has to be a highlight for me.

My most memorable win by a landslide was answering to a friend's activation of Shaman of Forgotten Ways Formidable ability by casting Cyclonic Rift.

One of my friends has stolen my wincon twice. Both times he played Worst Fears against my Hinata, Dawn Crowned deck, then proceeded to either have or tutor up Crackle with Power. It's brutal

Question : Reverse the polarity - instant... so technically when the pre-combat main phase rolls around and your opponent tries to recruit a creature, it is a spell cas on the stack, right? So Reverse the Polarity and counter that creature spell ;) Canonically it works - the 9th Doctor counter-teleported Margaret Slitheen in "Boomtown" I think.

Helix Pinnacle: Vhal, Candelkeep Researcher + Raised by Giants

My battle of wits enabler would be a steal cards effect. Something like "each opponent exiles 5 cards, put them on the bottom of your librabry"

I had a game where I played my Dihada, Binder of Wills deck against several token decks. I got to ultimate it, steal all the tokens and a Halo Fountain. One of my favorite wins ever.😊

I have a Rionya deck and the goal is that each basic land in the deck is a full art land from a different set, its getting there for now all the basic lands are from different sets.

16:30 I once used Jolrael to turn my son’s lands into 3/3s in response to another player’s Wrath of God. To be fair, my son was going to use Villainous Wealth on me his next turn. As for Achievements Unlocked: working on winning with Happily Ever after in an Azorius deck, winning with Fleet Swallower tokens in Brudiclad, and giving Hydra Omnivore myriad.

My record with Nyxbloom is 9 copies. 19,000 mana per land.

My bucket list thing I actually did was making a (non-infinite) exponentially large number of token copies of of Doubling Season with Miirym and Astral Dragon. I put DS and Astral Dragon in my Miirym clones deck mostly just because I wanted to get that interaction and then I actually did it night one at MC Minneapolis. The thing I want to do but it's happening very slowly is having a deck for each color combination. I think I'm around halfway there but there's a few combinations that are difficult for me.

For Helix Pinnacle, I have it in my mono-green Shamans deck (Sachi, Daughter of Seshiro is the commander). I have won with it, but it is not the centerpiece of my deck. Ashaya is in the 99 of my Lhurgoyf tribal deck, which also has plenty of creatures with the same P/T as Ashaya. Having someone land destruct my Ashaya would be hilarious. EDIT: Don't do Elder Dinos, just do straight Morophon Elders... there are 38 of them to choose from. There are dragons and dinos, giants and even a demon.

I love alt wincons, especially gimmicky ones, which is why my Etrata deck is by far my favorite I've built. I'll give my 2 cents on general tips for the maybe 1 person who will read this and maybe interested in building her (she's super fun to build and play in general) since I don't really agree with the site's suggestions or a few KZfaq videos I've seen for her. Phasing is better than blink/flicker which is better than bounce and ninjitsu when dealing with her trigger. Phasing her keeps her much needed equipment and enchantments. Blink is second best since it still means not having to pay 4, not risking getting countered, being able to attack next turn, and synergizing with blink creatures staples for value. Finally, bounce should nearly never be used with the exception of maybe a utility land for emergencies since it slows down your game plan way too much (have to pay again, risk getting countered, deal with summoning sickness, lose all auras, etc.). Also, with the exception of maybe ghostly flicker if you have a decent number of value blink targets, your blink and phasing instants should never cost more than 2 if you want to stay efficient too. You also should mainly focus on repeatable effects to avoid running out of options quickly. Always have some way of defending her from removal ready when you go to play her, especially if the initial target is not obvious since she becomes enemy number 1 to any player that might be targeted. Even if you have to delay bringing her out by a turn, it's better to be somewhat cautious. Combos are necessary to win effectively with her, you cannot reasonably expect to have 9 combat phases to get all the necessary triggers naturally with just her. Fast mana is also even more important with her since you need to get going early or at least get set up fast enough that you can afford to wait a turn to be cautious. If your opening hand doesn't have at least 2 lands, a mana rock, and a way to deal with her trigger or some protection, mulligan. Build your deck accordingly to ensure that opening hand. Because of the need for additional pieces to have her work, you're gonna need more tutors than usual as well. One or two pillow fort cards are nice since you'll have a low amount of blockers. Shroud is a no go, which unfortunately rules out lightning greaves. You need a way to stop her reshuffle/return to command zone, which means you need protection to be either color protection from non-blue (commander's plate is what I recommend, just has to be non-blue since that's all of your non-artifact blink effects) or hexproof so you can still target her. Have one or two other alt wincons like vorpal sword to deal with spell slingers that can go without many creatures in play or only those with shroud/hexproof is necessary. Her ability depends on opponents having a supply of targetable creatures for you, which isn't always the case. Also because of this, your board wipes should be selective. I only run a single toxic deluge (and a cyclonic rift because the flexibility of having the single target option when you need it is too damn good) since certain combos with her function almost like board wipes. She is repeatable creature removal, so you can go lighter on other forms of creature removal and still be fine. Your primary interaction besides her will be counters since they can also protect her. Maze of Ith. Have a strip mine or knock-off strip mine to deal with that (use a utility land slot, not any other form of land removal like instants or sorceries). Worst case scenario, you have a way to get rid of that pesky cabal's coffers or other dangerous land. Nobody likes having their entire game plan shut down by a land. If you're the one person who actually read these ramblings from a madman about his waifu of a commander, you a real one.

My personal highlight moment: Cast Summoner's Egg. Imprint Phage under the Egg. Donate Egg with Bazaar Trader. Hatch Egg. Player eliminated.

Won a couple of standard games with the Lilianas Contract - Arcane adaptation. Havn't really been able to make a commander deck with it that works yet though 😢

About a week before Kaladesh came out my goal was to get all major praetors in my 3+ color deck into play at the same time and I got it in my Sidisi (bug) reanimator deck and the game was over almost immediately. I'm glad I got it done before we got to where we are now with I think just the main 5 have 3 variants each

I won a game once with Triskaidekaphile's alt win condition in my Niv-mizzet deck and it was super satisfying

I have won a game with a soulgorger orgg + near death experience combo... That isn't happening again soon, I hard casted soulgorger (and hexproofed them) with near death on the battlefield and survived a whole round of attacks until the next upkeep... I even bolted my own face after someone gave me 3 life... Twas great...

I have 2 moments that stand out for me. 1 was winning with Triskaidekaphile. And the second one was saving my self from lethal damage with a tainted strike on my opponent creature.

My bucket list challenge is building cEDH commanders in the "wrong" way. I'm starting with Urza, Lord High Artificer spellslinger/blink

ANSWER 8:10 and also 12:45 (at least my opinion) = Old Stickfingers. Self-mill, tutor/regrowth combat and pump big X value for ol' sticky

At a prerelease, I swung in with a Phyrexian Obliderator. My opponent chumped with a 1/1 or a 2/2. I pumped his creature with a Giant Growth effect, making him sacrifice most of his board.

Just started but wanted to suggest that a interesting commander to try a Helix win with could be Magus lucea Kane as her ability I believe lets you copy Helix pinnacles ability as to put double the counters on it for its activation.

One of my bucket list items, I still am yet to cross off is being able to kill a player (or preferably a whole pod) with Aetherflux Reservoir. I love that card and the combo potentials with it but I have not been able to pull it off yet

I have an Isshin “go bonkers wide deck”, and my recently included Strixhaven Stadium has not yet shined, but we’re getting there.

Just had a player beat my table with Approach of the Second Sun (both casts in same turn). When it was in standard, I had a lot of Battle of Wits wins. Hardest about the deck was shuffling within the rules.

I was playing izzet storm-type deck, and opponent had a trinisphere in play. I chaos warped it.. into trinisphere. Fun times.

For Battle of Wits they need to make a card that allows you to add your opponents' library to the top or bottom of your library. They'd have to make so your opponents wouldn't lose the game because of drawing a card with no library.

I am 1 minute in the episode and already crying! 😂🤣

I once used strip mine on a basic land so my friend could pay the upkeep cost of pact of negation. He was steaming while I was laughing so hard I almost cried!

In regards to Mortal Combat. Joey, in future games, you must proclaim "Test Your Might" before you cast the enchantment. Should you manage to win with Mortal Combat, you must say "Fatality".

One of my most achievement unlock moment was change the target of emeria shepherd triggered ability to ashaya with a bend bolt, then play ruination, leaving that player with like 5 permanents.
