Actually not quite. These days the lines are somewhat blurred. Both units are trained in unconventional warfare and they both can be inserted through land/air/sea. There are many CDOs with diver badge and some are also US SEALs trained, NDUs have many people with airborne badges too (including SEALs badge). A simple display from both units on their uniform are the "typical" 3 badge, Airborne, FreeFall and Diver. CDOs just spend more time on land while NDUs spend more time in sea for their usual training. If there is a ship you want your troops to check on, you would usually send NDUs in, since they are "closer" or have ships, etc ready. While if it's a building, you might send in CDOs with Heli rappel. Though it can also be a joint ops, since they are all trained in it.

The SCDF may not be able to successfully complete the Commandos and Naval Diving Unit courses. Engaging in real life saving only on a daily basis does not necessarily make one tougher than individuals who have undergone specialized training in an elite unit. The Special Operations Force has demonstrated its capabilities through events such as the 1991 SQ hijacking. While few of my friends from the SCDF have shared their training with me, their training is not even 20% as demanding as what our unit endures . They have also acknowledged their inability to handle the rigorous courses offered by the NDU or Commandos

SQ117 Highjack case proves a point. Before that real ops, the elites didn't have any "real ops" too but they perform very well in the highjack case. IIRC, it was done and dusted in 30sec, to the point that US SF got in contact with them to learn. That is what the trainings and exercises are for, don't forget our troops regularly train with other counterparts from overseas, some of which have done real ops. SPF and SCDF, "ops" are quite different too, akin to comparing apples to oranges. Closest maybe SPF's SOC to CDOs?

@@j.l.s6574 Yea I knew those forces were from the SOF, in fact that hijack case happened before they were being officially recognized by the SG Gov. My point being, the training would have been as realistic as possible before being involved in the actual ops. The SOF troopers proved that point when they were called into action with that hijack case. So far I have yet to read any reports of those hijackers being "high on drugs", however with the intelligence gathered, SOFs knew they were armed with knives, etc but could NOT confirm if there were any other weapons hidden, etc. They could have hide 9mm pistols, etc, it's not that hard to hide them if they wanted to. The US SF invited SOF due to them securing the whole aircraft in 30 seconds. Speed and efficiency was part of them many reasons they (SOF) were invited over to share.

ASEAN have many combine exercises and some of the Singapore NSFs are involved too. IF ANY of Singapore's NSFs ARE crying, we would have heard it by now as some of these exercises are heavily covered by public media. If your country cannot even handle COVID19 properly, let alone in a war time situation where things/buildings/etc are breaking down every moment. In peace time, most of the resources are available, in war time, not so much. Even with most of the resources available, if you can't do a decent job, how are you expected to do any better when half of those resources are unavailable (during war time). Why is "crying" the first thing that come into your mind? Is it cause that's what you'll do when you train with Indon/Msia CDOs?

@DragonX2X7
@DragonX2X7 2 жыл бұрын
Different operations. Specialize in different skills. Have you personally been through any of those trainings? A good example would be Rappelling, since they are all trained in it. Don't think there are any competition in rappelling that are DARTs vs CDOs vs NDUs, etc. When shit hits the fan, they called in the "cosplayers" (Singapore Cable car incident for example). Another incident I've heard was someone(s) illegal (from overseas and might be armed) hiding in Pulau Tekong (of all places he or they chose to hide), SPFs was activated for the search and soon after the army (heard very little information about it, wasn't sure if it was 1 person or few people). After 4 (?) days of coming up empty, rumors were that Commandos (CDOs) might get activated soon to assist in the search. I'm sure if CDOs are activated, some of them would be the NSFs batch (NSFs are more than trained to be able to handle that level of threat). Well things got settled before the CDOs got activated, so I guess the "cosplayers" weren't needed. Main idea: different skills, different experts. When your car stops working, you don't go to a hospital looking for a doctor to fix your car (while some Doc do know the basics) and vice versa, you don't go to your car mechanic when you are very sick. I guess you are one of those without military training, acting like they know better.

Our neighbours watch this video, sure laugh. Be humble. You guys are only NSFs.. our neighbours special forces are full time regulars whose training are even tougher than Commandos than NDUs. If in doubt, watch their videos in youtube. Strawberry generation pampered servicemen how to win? Think
@DragonX2X7
@DragonX2X7 2 жыл бұрын
What is on youtube are just tip of the iceberg. Those guys and many like them are actually very humble if you ever meet them in real life. While these guys are indeed only NSFs they are already much better than the "average joe". Even normal NSFs are already better than the average joes who are civilians, at the very least they have some military knowledge and depending on their roles in the military can act according in war time. Based on your comments, you are really looking at things on the very surface (just like people who don't have much military knowledge). Who do you think trained these NSFs? Do you think Singapore hired Msia or Indo or ASEAN's Special Forces (SF) to train these guys? These NSFs still carry the name of CDO or NDU and thus still able to do what they are trained to do, they can still handle some scope of the operations. Full Timers (partly due to being full time), are trained more in depth and wider, thus able to handle a wider variety of operations. Even full timers are NOT always in training, during their careers, they spend some time on administration, training (learning new skills), being instructors, etc. All full time SFs skills are comparable. Do you think the instructors would give these trainees an easy time considering they bear the "same name" as them? Troops take time to train, you cannot expect civilians to be combat ready in a night's time. It's called "Strawberry Generation", not "strawberry nation", every country would have "their versions" of it. You need new blood even in the military. How many of your country's new generation are joining the military and how many ended up going into SFs? Singapore at the very least have a relative steady influx of new blood. I saw the Msia's entry level SF training (youtube video), the one in the forest. I wouldn't say it is tough, that level of training is at the very least, expected. Besides this video isn't about the types of training CDOs and NDUs went through too, it's just a friendly physical competition. Some people (or athletics) who have ZERO military training but are into cross-fit might be able to win them too, since the things tested are mostly physical stuff. It's not like the test are parachuting/combat diving/rappelling/ etc.
