Sharn Freier scored an early goal in the first half, but the Olympic champions Canada soon equalised, and a late Evelyne Viens strike proved to be the winner.

Two ridiculous errors that gave Canada both of their goals. Arnold's fumble is absolutely woeful at this level, and Van Egmond's pass back under immense pressure was very poorly executed. Doesn't bode well for Paris.

why do we insist of playing out from the back , both Matilda's and Socceroo's, we dont have the technical abilities to do it safely, how many goals do both teams need to concede to stop this. against Asian opponents you might get away with it , but not at WC or Olympic level

Hit the nail on the head. We don’t have the technical ability and we get exposed against the top 10 teams. I look at the first touch and how far the ball rolls away and the passing accuracy and quality. IMO they enjoy the publicity but they are overrated in ability. They are flat track bullies against weak opponents. Raso and even Fowler, initially, struggled to get games during their seasons.

Why is this only a B international when it was the last hit out before Paris? Unfortunately two goal keeping howlers defined this match.

True but mistakes happen to the best. It should also be pointed out that overall, both keepers did well.

Because it’s not a full lineup of international players, it’s the Olympics lineup.

Anyone who's watched the Matildas before the World Cup should know that Arnold is very prone to making silly mistakes. I recall similar errors against England and Denmark a few years ago.

I hope this was Tony being cagey, not showing any tactics they are going to use in the Olympics, because this was pretty ordinary. Fair enough, a few first string players rested but the game was played mostly in the Matilda's half, passes missing the mark, both teams opening goals coming from goal-keeper errors & the winning goal coming from a wayward back pass. Not going to win a medal this way.

@@stevemurrell6167 Sure. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan but the promise has been there for a long time since they were ranked as high as 4 in the world before Tony took over. As far as the Olympics go, with 12 teams I think the Matilda's will make the knockout rounds via being one of the 2 third place teams in their group that go through to the quarter finals. From there, anything can happen.

Well by seeing this game , another blunder by the coach , should have fielded strongest team so they can better opportunity to gel as a team , and more games . It looks dismal , not good for the fans .

So many critics when the Matildas lose but when they win they are full of praise, I'm pretty sure the Matildas didn't play to lose, no team is perfect so you cant win them all, im pretty sure the Matildas played an understrength squad, they will always be understrength without Sam kerr playing, i look forward to watching the Magnificent Matildas playing in the Olympic games soon, please dont criticise just praise the Matildas ❤

Get a coach who can build from the back. The girls defend like school football. Need a defensive coach to change the defence.

Gotta say, even though the Aussies were their own worse enemies and should have been punished for their defensive mistakes, the tackle that lead up to the second Canadian goal should have been called a free kick. The girl went in with her studs showing and over the top of the ball. Poor decision making by the Ref on a tackle that has broken ankles in the past. Also gotta say that I don't think that last tackle on Fowler was a penalty, would have been harsh if it was given.

Like watching local under 14s. Astonished why so many contemporaries think that watching the Matildas is the 'in' thing to do. Not only is women's football poor anyway, even in that context, the Matildas are continual disappointers.
