It’s quieter because it has a DC motor vs the AC motors found in most KA mixers. The DC motors are quieter, more powerful, run cooler, and should last longer.

Yes the DC motor has got to be the reason it’s so quiet. Makes me wonder why they don’t put the DC motor in the other KA mixers.

If Hobart still built KitchenAid, all KitchenAid mixers most likely would have DC motors, and they'd last a lit longer.@bakingwithbeatitude

Last year I upgraded from my Professional 550 to the 8qt commercial because my Christmas baking was overwhelming the 550. The 8 qt has been awesome. Handles all my massive batches with aplomb. I did buy the paddle with the silicone scraper for things like frostings since it scrapes the bowl as it mixes.

Awesome. Do you like the silicone scraper paddle? I’m curious as to whether it would wear out and break off in the mix

So far it's worked great. Like I said, I primarily use it for things in the frosting realm of consistency. It's not as heavy duty as the attachments that come with the mixer though. @@the.kitchenmom

I have the Commercial Kitchen Aid in red that I got about 5 years ago. Love it!! I burned out my old "Professional" model with double batches of cookies. It just couldn't handle the abuse. I have mine on the counter spot that does not have an upper cabinet. I have a paddle attachment with a rubber edge that is my favorite. I don't have to scrape the edges of my batter as often. TFS

Higher powered mixers are great, but they definitely require some adjustments with timing. I have a Blakeslee that I inherited from my mother. It is like a mini-Hobart. If you aren’t watching carefully, you can actually liquify items you are mixing. Because of this, I’ve been a little hesitant to use it to its full potential. If you have any suggestions that you’ve come up with (in using your new commercial mixer), I would be grateful for any helpful hints. So glad to hear that you are enjoying your new mixer.

I have a 40 year old lift head KitchenAid similar to your red one and it’s as quiet as your commercial model. I wonder what they changed? Even the speed slide is very quiet on my old one while yours sounds very notchy - not a bad thing but an audible difference. Enjoy the new mixer!!
@the.kitchenmom
@the.kitchenmom 8 ай бұрын
I’m not sure what they changed. I know the commercial one has a different motor than my red one. So maybe the older household KitchenAids also used to have the quieter motor. I am very much enjoying my new mixer! Thanks for watching! 🙂

The company got sold to a generic appliance company a handful of years ago and all the newer mixers were made much more cheaply. My professional 5qt cannot handle more than once per week to either bread cookie dough.

@@rachelbuster2826 Sad. This seems so typical the past 30 or so years. Companies spend more time shipping stuff overseas or lowering the quality as they run their companies solely through spreadsheet as opposed to ensuring satisfied customers. Near sighted thinking courtesy of stupid “shareholder value”. But when you disenfranchise your customers the value of the corporation goes down. Anyway. I’m glad I could get decent replacement full metal parts from the parts store on Utah - and they ship to Canada. Now I just need to repaint and then rebuild my 1960s era Hobart built KitchenAid :-).

Thanks for the vid, can you tell me how it's been behaving since the last time you reviewed it? I make a lot of bread at home so I just want to make sure it can withstand the amount of work I'll put it through. A friend of mine was using an artisan mixer to make her bread dough and in a couple of months the gears started to wear, and KitchenAid did not want to honor the warranty as they told her that it was made to only be used once a week with heavy work and no more.
@the.kitchenmom
@the.kitchenmom 2 ай бұрын
Oh interesting. I’ve had the 8 qt for almost a year now and I use it multiple times a week to make double batches of breads, and scones (pretty dense dough). It is holding up great. The motor still sounds quiet and solid. I could definitely see where the artisan one isn’t standing up to making breads much. I only use my artisan one to make icings and cakes anymore. Hope that is helpful, thanks for watching!

An important advice regarding the Commercial (aka Heavy Duty and also the Pro600 ) KA, it doesn't have the safety plastic gear that protects the motor. So be aware and use it without demanding too much of it. Since the motor and gears will damage and will need to be entirely replaced (which costs similar to buying a new one).

That would be interesting to note. I don’t find much need to run it above speed 2, but that is probably just because of my proclivity to certain recipes. Thanks for watching!

Not sure how well the translation works on here. But, you do need a specific 5 quart bowl to fit the 8 quart Commercial KitchenAid Mixer in the video. I don't think a 5 quart bowl from a smaller mixer would work. I may be wrong on that. Here is a link to a bowl that will fit this particular mixer and is 5 quarts amzn.to/3TqS4d0 I hope that helps.
