This moved me deep. I wasn't even paying attention to the lyrics at first, then tears flooded before I knew it and when I realized what the song was about I cried even more. Like deep tears locked away for too long... I'm just re discovering the magic that is Common, ending a long night of digging for new artists and projects, and soulful music, then stumbling upon this track and told myself 'ok I'm ending the night with this'... God, brother Common thank you for this moment of clarity. And that chorus is from another world Simora, as are the drums brother Karriem... Thank you

Enjoyed seeing this dope soul last night🙌🏾 been listening to him since I was 10. The 1st time I heard him was at the Rainbow skating rink in the Chi. I was smacking walls and maintaining my falls all while enjoying the flow of the dope track called ,"the light". That is honestly when I fell in love with hiphop❤.. it's been 19 years of fruitful music for my ears/soul❤

@ Latrice Jackson HOLY SHIT! I thought I was the only one! My first memory of music is “The Light” by Common! It’s the reason I fell in love with hip hop as well. But I was on the West Cost in San Diego as a little girl on my swing set out in the yard with my dad’s music blasting from the house. I used to sing along with the sample. Wow. Now here I am years later as well. Thank you for your story, it made me realize there are probably many other people out there who have the same love for hip hop because of one song like that. How beautiful that we can be connected despite race, gender, age, location, etc. all because of good music.
