My mouth dropped when I listened to this, in the ride. I'm a Chi-town native living in Tennessee now. You have to be from the Chi to know what Common was talkin about. They paid homage to Kanye, Syleena Johnson, Curtis Mayfield, and Jennifer Hudson, all Chicago's very own. This might be my favorite Common album now. 🤔

Beautiful album. Majestic, even... The lyrics, the samples, the overall context ❤🤌🏿 As a 40 plus year old hip hoper, I am so grateful to brothers like Common, Nas and Pete for still doing this 🙏🏿 If you were raised on 90s hip hop, a sound like this album bursts your heart open from the nostalgia and ensues so much joy! I really hope one day these award shows create a contemporary hip hop category, so the older hip hoppers can be acknowledged/celebrated amongst their peers and stay motivated...

This might be one of his best album he made because this is one of the few albums in his discography that's entirely produced by one producer. The Dreamer/The Believer was done by No I.D., A Beautiful Revolution was done by Karriem Riggins but this one will be more highly acclaimed because it's PETE ROCK and like the other highly acclaimed albums like LWFC (primarily by Dilla ft. Premier & Soulquarians), BE (primarily by Ye ft. Dilla) and Resurrection (No I.D. ft. Ynot), ain't NO SKIPS ON THIS RECORD!!!

A Producers Orchestrates A Song/Album.. Some are hands on with instruments and beat machines. Some cant play anything but knows how to place sounds in the right areas. Some beat makers can also producer some cant. They'll tell an artist how they should approach a song scheme and Flow wise. If you dont do any of those things except make the beat .. You are Not A Producer, You Make Beats And Thats Ok And Is Definitely Needed When Crafting An Album.

the crazy thing about copyright... the ones that are getting claimed aren't because of the artists..., its major record labels trying to take a piece. i know artists want to get paid, but i think they'd rather their music get out there and they can make money off of concerts, albums, merch, etc. .... what's the point of shutting this down? they (record labels) don't want you to make money if they're not getting a piece of it.., regardless if its for a good reason, regardless of how little money it may be.

The really messed up part is that samples have different laws than covers. Hate to throw race into it, but you can cover a song without permission and pay a flat fee, but samples have to be prenegotiated and/or they can take royalties.
