Welcome to my series 'My life as a Busker'! I'm an Australian Busker just looking to share my experiences. In this episode I talk about if there were no rules for busking what would just be common sense in a busking situation.

as I understand some city's have a 'talent'-test for a licence to perform, or you get a fine. Some (most) buskers are really talented. I like making music myself. But am I boring ? Cause when I am on a quiet terras, drinking my coffee, and somebody is coming setting up his her gear, starts to play, I did not ask for that... it is double to me.

Hi Samantha, Great info, I guess this question would be for more the travelling busker, Do you have tips for how to approach the councils for permission to busk in the area, ie: email, in person or phone. Should I have social media for referencing before applying.
@edgesamantha
@edgesamantha 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Riki. I think only once have I provided a social media link to get a permit. I think that's only something you need if trying to get a permit in a premium shopping mall or strip that requires an audition. General area permits don't require anything like that. I have done all the above to contact council's in the past. If you can find an email address, contact them with that. If you don't hear back, give them a call. And if those fail go in person. In terms of tips, just Google the area you want to busk in with the words 'busking permit' and see what comes up. Often times you'll find all the information you need from a quick Google search. Otherwise you can look to contact them and find out. Just say you're hoping to busk and are wondering whether you require a permit to do so and if so, how you can apply for one. Explain your situation if need be. I did a bit of this when I organized my busking road trip. Not everything went to plan. Some places were a lot smaller than I thought. Others I couldn't find a spot. Weather comes into play and can ruin the opportunity to play in a certain place if you're only passing through. Anyway good luck :)

Traditional busking doesn't use amplification period. I play violin and fiddle and the more hard core violinists do not feel electric violins are even the same instrument. I have been outcompeted by everyone with having twenty years of violin experience. Cardboard sign people, fake violin players who don't stay at the stop signs away from the actual businesses, amplify , and hookup to preplayed tracks that they aren't playing, and hold up billboards with sob stories. There are con artists who pretend to be disabled cardboard sign people. And there are even some Ill mannered real musicians who don't understand that even though you can make ten times as much sitting next to Walmarts automatic doors Walmarts policies never permit this and there are three very real buskers who call Brunswick ga their home base who they hurt when they do this. I told a very gentle Walmart associate who I consider a freind what he was doing someone who would just ask him to stop and not hurt him and now one of my two busking freinds thinks I was wrong for that and now wants to go do it. I have prayed about this that if it is I that needs to think differently about this that I might come to the correct conclusions, but I m afraid at this time I'm fourteen hundred dollars in debt I have a dear friend who is very close to my heart wanting to do something I am afraid for him to do and a very threatened busking turf and alot of things to accomplish before April 2 when they try to discontinue my car insurance for being a vehicle nomad. I would just like to do downtown Brunswick But I never make money there. St Simons island works sometimes but never a living wage. I just don't know.

Hey, I've watched a few of your videos and I also live in Adelaide! Plan to start busking during the day when not at uni and have a few questions! If I go and busk in Rundle, how long am I able to stay at a spot for? Also, provided I'm not too close to another busker, am I able to go anywhere in the middle of Rundle or are some stores not okay with that? Also, what other places are good busking location for mid day/afternoon? Keep up the content :) Thanks!

+ikillnoobs58 Hey. Limit in Adelaide is 30 minutes. I think it's too harsh, but that's what they've set it as. Anywhere in the middle of mall is fine as long as there's no stall/performance set up by Rundle Mall, then you'd have to avoid being near that too. I haven't been in a while, but the Adelaide Central market used to have buskers. You would book a spot with them for a certain day at a certain time instead of just rocking up to perform. Might be worth checking there, think they had info online. I also hear setting up on leigh st or bank st can be good. I don't do much day time busking anymore as I find it hard to get a spot, parking's more expensive and it's just not worth my time (too many

Ah awesome, thanks! Also one other question, if I busk in the day for 30 minutes am I then allowed to change spots in rundle and start busking again or is there a time limit inbetween sets?
@edgesamantha
@edgesamantha 7 жыл бұрын
+ikillnoobs58 You can start again straight away in a new spot you just need to be at least 50m away from where you just performed and you can only perform in each spot once per day.

Understand....Forgot that your seasons are opposite our's here in the states. :-) Have inside malls there that allow Busking?
@edgesamantha
@edgesamantha 7 жыл бұрын
+BaktaBak - Country, Rock & Oldies band Yes, we've got a few more weeks of Winter then it will be Spring! There's not really any inside mall spots that I know of. It's either outdoor malls or outside entrances to inside malls. I used to play in an outdoor mall close to the airport under a section of cover a handful Winter's ago, but then they changed their busking spots and none of them were under cover. It's not the best over here for Winter time busking! Have you got any inside malls that allow busking over there?
@BaktaBak3

Let's put it this way.......... I'm a bit of a rebel . I'll go & set up, at an inside mall.... or anywhere for that matter.... make sure I'm not too loud , make sure I don't block store traffic & give a good performance. Several things may happen. 1. Police Mall tell me to leave ( & I do ). 2. I get to stay and perform as everyone is having a good time or,..... 3. The nearby shops don't mind me being there as some of the folks end up going into their shops . I'm always considerate & will leave when asked to.
