Los Angeles, January 19, 2024 - The City of Los Angeles undertook a major cleanup initiative at the Venice Beach restrooms, frequently used as shelters by the homeless. This cleanup, integral to the city's broader efforts to enhance public facilities, was conducted by the Department of Public Works and Recreation and Parks, excluding Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., known for dealing with hazardous waste.
The team, wearing protective gear, showcased the city's emphasis on worker safety. Councilwoman Traci Park's Housing Coordinator played a pivotal role in coordinating between various city departments, including the homeless encampment task force. Additionally, the LA Homeless Services Authority contributed outreach services.
The presence of Los Angeles Park Rangers was key in maintaining safety and adherence to standards. This restroom cleanup is part of Los Angeles' comprehensive approach to homelessness, involving regular cleanups under Park Rangers' supervision.
This initiative underlines the city's dedication to tackling homelessness holistically, balancing immediate actions with long-term strategies to bring sustainable change to the community.

It would be way cheaper to hire a full time bathroom attendant, good pay, 401K, benefits, everything, to be on duty 12 hours a day to approve public restroom usage among the public. TIme limits and enforcing rules....put them in a concrete guard shack with bullet proof glass and manage the restrooms....as opposed to weekly or bi-weekly clean ups which involve dozens of paid staff and hazmat crews and vehicles to haul off the rubbish

I ride here daily and honestly we have an awesome place that visitors and locals shouldn't have to just shake our heads at . Street team member should be posted at each bathroom all day monitoring and cleaning then locked up at night of course. Every person should be Wow awesome not oh wow how disappointing. JS 🤙

Self cleaning automatically timers smart toilets will put a stop to people sleeping in them if they don't want to be soaked every half hour 😅

...AND they need to install MORE external active *security cameras* with major lighting everywhere----at every angle on the outside & behind those bathrooms . This place looks so dark and dingy by day, so imagine at night. They also need guards or policing regularly at all hours which would *prevent* this problem in the 1st place.

Interesting comment, over where i am in Canada b.c near Vancouver we have a transient problem too, and last year in my local news they made a projection of the equivalent of just how much is spent on average in services to each individual transient, and between cleaning, clean needles, clothing, food etc, the figure was not exact but it was some where between eight and nine thousand dollars each, again this is an estimate of Money spend monthy on each individual transient, while a monthy disability check to those with a disability with expencive rent to pay is not even a quarter of that amount, it's crazy, it seems like a low income person would be better off being homeless and on drugs you would literally get more support that way, that why over where I am this is called a broken healthcare system..
