Seattle Parks and Recreation is planning to remove a community garden that became a symbol of hope during the 2020 protests following the murder of George Floyd.
The garden, located in Cal Anderson Park on Seattle’s Capitol Hill, was created by volunteers inside the Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP). Since then, the garden has inspired several other urban farms across Seattle and contributed to a Black and Indigenous food sovereignty movement in the region.
Now the city wants it gone. A City of Seattle sign near the garden says the area will soon undergo “turf renovation” and that “natural grass” will replace the space that is currently growing food such as corn and collard greens as well as medicinal herbs and native plants.

Biodegradability maybe not bio diversity it doesn't it only show the lack of knowledge that the person planted it has aswell as the ignorance.. if u want to see the difference go talk to a farmer .. also i have a solution too tell everyone interest in the project to purchase a plot of land with there own money and do it they can put there mony where their mouth is ..

I know right!? Let's forget that every addict within 50 miles hung out there to get high. (the gardeners were glad they left "fresh" human fertilizer) Also forget that 3 peas and a squash doesn't count as "crops to feed the community", and the people who planted it were hostile virtue signaling idiots. They should have left it as a rat sanctuary, now they're homeless as well.

One of the absolute best things in Cap Hill. As a professional gardener, this place inspires me. To those who say it looks bad, I challenge you to name 10 plants in there. This is a beautiful space, an act of community sovereignty, and a touching memorial to Black and Indigenous lives. ¡Viva BLMG!

@@gmc9753I'm not in Washington now, but it's my home state. I'm appalled at the changes to places I once loved. According to the news Seattle is lawless and I've seen footage of homeless people defecating on the sidewalk like that was normal. It's certainly a case of "be careful what you wish for". Too many liberals with high ideals that don't work when put into practice because they're never thought through. I hope the whole state hasn't been trashed, I'd like to visit again, but not if that's what it's become.
