You don't even need to play this game too much. If you grind up to tekken god or even purple you'll make the same conclusion. You just play your flowcharts, frametraps and go ham. The "meat out" playstyle has become the premiere way to play now. It is what it is

I saw when this got posted online but low key there was nothing to say. I pretty much agree. Majority of the time it's like you have to mix them before they mix you.

This game burns me out faster than T7. After so many matches, I get fatigued and tired of constantly needing to go ham every match. This game doesn’t allow you to play passively or change your play style at all!

Nothing but facts GM. I put about 1600 hrs into T7 and even though I thought the game had a lot of issues, I still found enjoyment in playing because of the various playstyles. Every match of T8 feels the EXACT same, especially online. I haven't played T8 in a month and it sucks because I really enjoy this franchise.

ppl dont seem to understand its ok to like something and admit its flawed . i like T8 but even i see where the complaints are coming from the game is way too aggressive and some things definitely need to be toned down. also those ppl are silly telling u to git gud they did the same thing to Knee when he addressed his issues about the game too

Good defense in this game is finding openings to duck,step or ch so you can start your offense, block punishment is simply not enough anymore

It’s funny that ch “defensive” characters like asuka, lee, Bryan, best game-plan is to force plus frames to 50/50 It’s trend in all new fighting games. Reward mashing and punish defense

I think it's specially an issue when some characters can do offense well vs those that can't. Like defensive characters like Lee, Kazuya and Bryan have a real uphill battle in this game compared to those that rely on offense for their gameplan, this is amplifiedd by those with strong heat mechanics vs weak ones. Lee is a prime example of imo a character with a weak heat mechanic vs someone like Feng or Ling.

It seems like the only people that genuinely like this game were ass at T7 so they’re happy they can finally get some wins without learning proper defense, even at Tekken King you still run into scrubs playing like bots just doing garbage flowcharts and not punishing anything.

The thing i personally hate the most of the game on top of all the oppressive offense, are these ret4rded mashy mechanics: dumb fast safe powercrushes (like victors b1+2), having access to 360 degrees tracking fast armored plus on block heatbursts all rounds, and stupid RAs that comes out instantly after receiving a hit. All that crap they can mash even if they negative... so scrubby man

Honest takes from experienced players are always refreshing imo.

100% facts a lot of dummies trolling in the comments guarantee most of them aren't even blue ranks. The game is busted and on sided based on who gets 2 mixups first which means the more aggro player you are the higher your chances of winning. They should really look into making movement better and having trades go to neutral instead which ever character winning the trade and getting a full combo king players get so much mileage from that shit

I agree with you 100 percent, like this game only caters towards "oppressive" play not aggressive, but oppressive. There are no other options, no defence, cause of lack of movement, chip damage, heat (heat running thing, what ever its called, where you have to just guess your opponent's move was so silly to put in the game) and many more things. I noticed veterans and well trained players in fundamentals notice this flaw, the rest of the tekken population just dont get it yet

You are telling the truth though I've looked at some matches of mine and when i get cooked I was blown up in less than 10 secs crazy plus frames and mix-ups sidestepping seems non existent getting hit with moves that's not even supposed to track its rough especially when matched up against certain characters

I gave up on Tekken 8 after a couple of months, SF6 honeymoon lasted a lot longer than this. This game is pure offense and that gets old really fast. I'll def check back once few years of patches/balancing have settled.

True. I made it all the way thru blue ranks being a defensive player. Now that im tekken king i realize defense takes a back seat in this game. I cant win being being defensive on high level. Like you said you have to go brazy. Hopefully that june patch helps us. Harada messed up when he said "aggressive"

Good take. People would play then just stop moving during the match and wait. I'm like 'what are you doing?' I usually i one done them and move on if that happens. But that good to know you have to keep moving during a match.

I completely understand the issue with Tekken right now. They buffed offense to the point to where there's very little diversity in playstyle. They might've tipped the scale to offense a bit too much. You know it's bad when defensive characters start playing offensive (Jun and Asuka). Defense needs a buff for sure

I'm definitely not a great player so the most frustrating for me is trying to shake the habbit of playing "optimal(outdated) tekken" in blue ranks with Lee. Trying to step and CH players that are forcing 50/50s with every single interaction is exhausting. I really hope they increase sitestep travel and/or do something about certain characters in heat.

This Tekken is definitely weighing heavily torwards offense. But it's not by accident. Namco aims to punish super defensive play in efforts to making the game more entertaining on a massive scale. Historically, many tekken O.Gs have despised changes to tekken like this... i.e tekken 4 Still with the host of defensive power crushes and tools in this game, many downright abusable, you can't just play all offense. Defense is now also brain dead.

if i got beat up by accurate martial arts or gameplay or no juggle but more damage or even char lores remotely good i was ok. this game being successful because of being new blows my mind. i think even the chip damage sound was intended to be mixed with the block sound and it was kept that way

How do you feel about a meter being put in the game? By that I mean literally just give everyone Geese' max mode mechanic where you have to build it up before you use it, but it also carries over to the next round. I said from pre-release that this game would be stupid because every round would turn into an all-out heat battle, which it did lol. Imagine how stupid SF6 would be if it had that rule, so why should it work for Tekken?

And thing I cannot stand is that making games more offensive does not make it more exciting. Maybe to the super casual who is ever going to watch a single tournament and never think about the scene again. But for everyone who sticks a round, less neutral into explode the other person ASAP is not hype to spectate. Sure it still takes skill but it’s more random and I don’t have to like it. That’s why I stopped playing strive and I hope tekken does not go down that path. It’s like if you were only allowed to through haymakers in MMA the sport would be boring as fuck and nobody would give af about it. They’re turning fighting games into powerslap (which is disgraceful)

I don’t know why people are so upset about this opinion, it’s literally the new meta of Tekken. The same way Tekken 4 nuked backdashes and made characters like Steve and Jin overwhelming because of that meta, Tekken 8 rewards heat aggression, positive frames and chip damage. This is on point.

Laggy matches and chip damage. literally the worst combination in Tekken as of right now. Shit I faced numerous amounts of players that do majority moves that I block that chip me to death.

I like to come from a place of knowledge so I typically only complain about the stuff they gave my character. Why in the name of God does Hwoarang get a full launch off a jab and db4 in heat? Hwoarang has always been scrubby but I think most would agree that he takes a bit of work to make it happen at higher levels. Now I just monkey mash jabs, rff df4 and db4 and get free rounds. Michael Murray needs to step down because his "vision" for Tekken is a joke.

Well...yeah. It was stated from the beginning that this game would encourage people to engage more and be less defensive. It's not why the game is bad; it's why people like you and others who prefer the classic feel of Tekken don't enjoy it (as much). The game is also in its infancy, and there's already been talk of buffing the defensive mechanics. So chill, and give the game a little time to breathe. People keep comparing it to T7 specifically as if forgetting that game had a rough beginning, and a multi-year arcade only before the home versions.
