In today's video, we're checking out the S2V speakers from ADAM Audio - the smallest speaker in their S-series high end line. How much improved are they on the A7X, who are they for? Do they need a subwoofer? Let's take a look.

interesting but there is dialog on the left channel (very discrete though) bit distracting imo, thx for the review

Thanks, I know. It crept on there via the capture software, found it too late. Doesn’t seem loud enough to warrant a complete takedown and re-render

Would be interesting if you compare with the HEDD Type 07 (they announced the MKII 1-2 months back), AFAIK, the A7X was designed by the same guy before he left ADAM Audio to start his own company and already has a very good reputation. If you like ADAM monitors you should definitely also check out HEDD and Eve products I'd say.

When I switched from A7x to S2V I had to keep the sub8. I did use the timing adjustments on the S2V to phase align my sub. My thought are that the low end is more punchy and a good improvement over the A7x. The high end feels more clear and open as well. Going from A7x to S2V was a good improvement for me. But just listening to your voice in that room, especially around the 17 minute mark, it seems like the acoustics could be improved a little bit, there seems to be more echo and reflection than I would be happy with. lol, I'd ditch the foam and go with better acoustic panels. In regards to the sub mine it set to the low 50's hz range and it seems to work really well even with a smaller sub like the sub8, just make sure to calibrate to your normal listening volume and the spl difference between the sub8 and S2V's should be a little less of an issue.

Nice review! the problem is that low frecuencies tend to be omnidirectional so you can't tell where they are comming from

Great video, I really enjoy how thorough you are in your reviews! I’ve been looking at these for a while ... I primarily mix on the Audeze LCD X headphones but I’ve been looking for monitors with that type of resolution and clarity. I have the a5x with sub but haven’t been that happy so I keep mixing in headphones. Also what’s the brand of those NS10 clones you referred to?
@adamsteelproducer

Thanks! The NS10 clones are the SN10s from Studiospares. They sound horrible exactly like they should 😅

Hi Musictron, that's unfortunate to hear. What keeps you from using the A5X + Sub? If there is anything we can assist you in considering your current setup and the ADAM Audio S2V, we're very happy to help. Have a great day. Greetings from Berlin.

Just got these with the sub10, Adam audio website vs their youtube page got me very confused, they say your sub8s and the s2v are a good match on the website, but, according to the youtube page.....not a good match. Upgraded from hs8’s and i teared my first time hearing these in my room.

I have had the A7X for a few years now but the tweeter on one side suddenly died. I'm living with only one tweeter on the right side now. Looking to replace with a PreSonus Sceptre S6 because it's coaxial and I've never tried one of those before.

Hi Deo Favente, that's really unfortunate to hear. Did you take advantage of our extended warranty to let them get repaired? You can register your A7Xs and get up to 5 years of warranty. Feel free to reach out to our support team. We're happy to help you getting these A7Xs running again. Have a great day!

First impression, they look like Eve monitors. That's normal because they are designed by the same engineer Roland Stenz. So these are great? I guess? Keep us informed please :)

They are not designed by Roland Stenz. Stenz left Adam way before these speakers were designed.

I watched this feeling more confused..... I think.... I have the A7X and like them a lot...... One thing I learned from what you said is .... you have to turn them up to hear a difference correct? Thank you for taking the time

The A7x's are pretty good, I've really liked them and used them for almost 10 years, the S2Vs are definitely better, I switched about a month ago. The biggest difference I notice is the high end seems even more open and clear and the low end has more punch compared to the A7X's. To a degree your right, at lower volume levels there is less of an improvement but once you start going up to higher levels the difference is a lot more. I normally mix in the 65-80db range and the difference there is substantial. Down around 40-50db its a lot less. The think to keep in mind is that depending on the style of the music you may have to have to volume up a bit. EDM and bass heavy stuff needs a little bit of volume to drive the low end, if your mixing at a low level it doesn't work out well. I'm not sure what the difference is above 81db as I pretty much never go louder than that. My take is if your doing pro or semi-pro work and have a treated room its worth the upgrade. Less so if that's not the case. I'd also recommend a sub even with the S2V's unless your doing music that doesn't have much bass content. But for things like pop, rock, edm, hip hop, etc I consider the sub a must and its worth the time to properly calibrate the sub as well.

That Sonarworks low end roll off doesnt look right. The Adam S2V should be extending lower than that, at least a -6 of 40HZ. My guess is there is a high pass filter at some stage either in the DSP of the S2V or in your signal chain.
@adamsteelproducer
@adamsteelproducer 3 жыл бұрын
It is what it is, don’t forget that’s a measurement of the speakers from around 1-2 meters away in my room, not a pure representation of the speaker in a vacuum
@540dell
@540dell 3 жыл бұрын
@@adamsteelproducer Considering that Adam’s own anechoic measurement data shows a deeper low end extension than the sonarworks data that was measured in a 6 boundary room, one would predict that you would get a gain in low end extension and not a reduction.
@adamsteelproducer
@adamsteelproducer 3 жыл бұрын
But that’s not how physics works, all other things being equal you don’t get more out of a fixed system.... you only get that in room modes, otherwise absorption due to high mass objects and power drop off due to inverse square law apply
@540dell
@540dell 3 жыл бұрын
@@adamsteelproducer Are you telling me you have dead bodies hanging behind the curtain? P.S. That is a joke. Are you saying you have eliminated all room modes in low frequency spectrum?

It certainly seems that way, I’ve got issues up at 100ish hertz, but since the studio is surrounded on 3 sides by 100 feet of bedrock, the walls don’t seem to cause much issue down there. It’s not perfect here, but sub is definitely not the biggest issue! (And don’t worry about the bodies, they’re just on loan)
