I'm not a dispensationalist, but I've had a Companion Bible for over 30 years. My copy was published by Zondervan back in the day. Bullinger's notes on figures of speech and Greek synonyms in particular are unsurpassed. There is much to glean from in this Bible and his other books. Bullinger was the first president of the Trinitarian Bible Society despite not being devoted exclusively to the Textus Receptus or KJV. Well respected dispensationalist Bible teacher Warren Wiersbe, in his forward to Bullinger's book "Great Cloud of Witnesses", wrote, "Dr. Bullinger held some doctrinal views that perhaps some of us might not agree with, but this must not rob is of the blessings of his written ministry...The Companion Bible a valuable tool for the serious Bible student, even if he does not follow Bullinger's system of interpretation." Sound advice.

I had seen your channel before and I wondered if you even knew about the Companion Bible because it seemed to me that it wasn't well known in this day and age. I'm glad you are going to get into it. I found Bullinger's note on Genesis 2:25 regarding the word naked to be particularly interesting. I have always been fascinated by the story of the Fall so when I saw that my interest was peaked. The Companion Bible is a treasure trove of a resource. Enjoy!

I don’t agree with E.W. Bullinger’s eschatological perspective, but his work is still a great resource on many subjects. Most intriguing with Bullinger was that he was a staunch Flat Earther

I don't believe that anyone has ever unearthed any actual quotations from Bullinger himself that prove what you're claiming. Everything I've seen is basically guilt by association. FWIW Do you have any references from Bullinger himself?

@@matthewmurphyrose4793 Newspaper clippings do indeed exist where Bullinger was personally a main speaker at a flat stationary Earth conference taking the position of being in support of this belief. The man was a staunch anti-Papist and many Protestants living in his era believed that Rome created the globe Earth theory. Many of the reformers had also taught this during the Reformation era. It should be noted that when Bullinger was alive the majority of schools in the Protestant areas of the world still taught a Biblical flat Earth cosmology and rejected a lot of science on the grounds of the New Testament warnings of Science falsely so called and giving heed to fables. When Bullinger was alive this wasn’t even a controversial belief or perspective within the Protestant mindset of his era. People often forget that the initial proclamation of heliocentrism in 1542 didn’t take hold as a majority position in the public space until the beginning of the 20th century. Speaking of reformers in the last paragraph, Martin Luther himself was also an ardent flat stationary Earth believer who once wrote(paraphrasing from memory now and this would be a translation anyways) that anyone who believed the Earth was a globe had lost their mind and was suffering a great delusion. He called it a propagation of the Antichrist in Rome to deceive many. This actually was a popular viewpoint before science fiction books of the late 19th century and the creation of NASA in 1959 changed public perception. About 20% of schools in America still taught flat stationary Earth as the correct cosmology in 1969 and if you talk to enough people in that generation many will admit they were taught that up until the moon landing and then their schools changed their teaching completely by the 1970 school year. People often forget all of this history when researching the topic, it used to be a staunch conservative Protestant perspective. In 1958 the Encylopedia Britannica still taught a flat stationary Earth cosmology as a probable theory alongside the globe theory, that was the final year it was featured with all subsequent releases exclusively teaching globe theory as a solid and verifiable science. As for getting back to Bullinger himself his book “The Witness of the Stars” also makes reference to his belief that the Earth was stationary and that would at the very least put him firmly in the category of a geo-centric believer which would indeed be an entirely Biblically valid position to take. Keep in mind that E.W. Bullinger was a Hebrew scholar and took the text extremely literally. Even the team at Logos Bible Software admits the Bible teaches a flat stationary Earth cosmology and they even drew an illustration to show what the Bible says when taken literally. It’s worth noting that although the team at Logos admits this is what the Bible says(including Michael Heiser) they do not adhere to this belief whatsoever, they just admit it’s a literal view of what the Bible states in the original languages when it’s all put together. They would further admit that the stars circle the earth and the sun and moon are in motion around the Earth in scripture while again they personally don’t hold to that view regardless of making it clear that the Bible does literally say that. It’s early now and I’m getting ready for Church otherwise I’d dig this stuff up for you to send links but you can find all of that with a little digging on your own without too much trouble. It’s a fascinating topic to study regardless of which position you ultimately side with. GOD Bless! ❤️

@@narrowistheway77 thanks. Yeah, that's basically what I've heard/read on this point. The issue is we have (to my knowledge) no actual quotes from Bullinger. Secondly, I believe the meeting(s) you're speaking of happened at Exeter Hall-which is home turf for Bullinger considering his involvement with the Trinitarian Bible Society. Thirdly, the meetings (and society) in question were very anti-evolution/Darwin-and this very well may be the true reason for Bullinger's involvement. That's my take at least. Thanks for the replies!
