Personally think these are the best AT infantry the soviet have primarily due to their Satchel charge against vehicles and the AT rifle upgrade. Couple this with that passive To the Last Man ability makes them deadly. Guards Rifle slightly better if they have the upgrade to button the vehicle, but their survivability I find isn't that great, very expensive and requires you to choose certain Commanders to get them.

Hmmm well I wouldn't take out guards easily, they are really good. Bcs if you would just put satchel against nade guards have, nade will be more useful bcs it will be consistent more. Satchel is good but against good player you wont land it to much

@@FieldMarshalChannel Yeah not so effective against infantry if they have the AT package, that's probably where the Guards come in since they can really be both with their grenades while also upgraded to button vehicles. Only once or twice have I managed to eliminate an enemy infantry unit with the Satchel Charge due to them moving around always, so I just keep that for garrisoned buildings + en vehicles.

@@iranicus3393yea. Penals are solid but I wouldnt give them higher grade than guards but for basic unit they are more than hood specialy combined

Oops, my bad. Shows you that I do have the game but have yet to play it. I loved COH 1 and I hear this surpasses it. Look forward in playing the game.

CoH1 left bigger mark and CoH2 and not to mention optimization. Coh1 is relevant to this day also and do some stuff better than coh2. But CoH2 has its strengths also

yes it will slightly decrease their anti infantry capability bcs 2 squad memebers will get ptrs. This will be seen late game specially against german vet infantry with lmgs

Satchel power tho! Best to pair with ZiS-3 ZiS kills tanks from distance, and if they try to close in, you throw sticky satchel and PTRS can finish it off if it is not outright destroyed. Satchel also it makes the tank slow and vulnerable to ZiS. Also applies when someone doesn't keep distance between your penals and his tanks, even without ZiS.

Also, you can unload Penals from M3A1 Scout Car, drop a satchel at fuel/ammo caches, and run - satchel will insta-destroy the cache, then get Penals back to the car and drive away. Clown car tactics at their finest.
