I got a screaming deal on a used once Anima Prestige (60% off) on Craigslist and have used it constantly for 2 years going. I absolutely love it. If and when this thing breaks, it’s made me an enthusiast as I’ve eyed that Accademia for awhile. Great overview of these products. I love how you guys take a niche field and put out high quality content that makes it feel mainstream, informative, and easy to find. Otherwise half these products would be mysteries.

you say the babila has the latte feature, I dont see it on the website description, I want a banging machine for lattes only, can you recommend one? I can get the Babila for about $800 atm, but not if it only does the silly latte that no one drinks :P

I own Gaggia Accademia for almost 5 years already. Loving it each day and everyday. Now I am looking for another Super Automatic Espresso Machine for another home and came across Saeco. Why Saeco design is so similar to Gaggia? So Gaggia or Saeco? The latest Saeco Xelsis Evo seems more advance with more features than Gaggia Babila. Btw, is there any Super Automatic Espresso Machine that can work with iPhone/ iPad/ Androids via Bluetooth/ WiFi connection? I came across this Scanomat TopBrewer but I think it is more for commercial. Suggestions needed. Thanks.

Hi Adam, Thanks for the question! There are Saeco and Gaggia machines which are very similar. No secret I suppose that Phillips owns both. So there is some crossover with features developed when companies were separate now being incorporated into each brands machine. There are no WiFi machines which I'm familiar enough with to recommend. The Babila and EVO are very similar in most all respects except for price! Currently the EVO runs about $1,300 more than the Babila! I'm trying to figure out what feature on the EVO is worth the extra $1,300.

Hi Guys, I love your videos. Very educating and clear!!! I am contemplating between the Breville touch and the Gaggia Academia, however, I read not very good things about Gaggia's customer/warranty service. Could you advice which machine would be your choice and what do you think of Gaggia's service? Thanks in advance

Hi sol, Thanks for the comment on the videos. Are you in the US? Check out the Accademia here: www.wholelattelove.com/gaggia-accademia-espresso-machine currently 127 reviews with average of 4.5 out 5 stars. We offer a 2 yr warranty and expert support via phone/chat/email: www.wholelattelove.com/contact-us Also a complete support wiki for the Accademia here: wiki.wholelattelove.com/Gaggia_Accademia I use a lot of super-automatic machines. For 2 years my daily use machine in the video studio was the Accademia. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions! Marc

Hey Marc, just took the plunge and ordered a Gaggia Academia from you guys. Some of the videos on the site about the Academia are quite old, this one, and the Best Of video from the end of 2018 are the most recent ones I could find on the Academia. Is there any chance of doing a newer video going over settings recommendations for the Academia? I know everyone's tastes are different, but an informational video about maybe a good starter settings profile would be good with some description about how modifying each setting could affect the taste/end result. Appreciate all the informative videos, love watching every single one!

Hi Matt, Congrats on the purchase and thank you for the comment and request! If you have not already found it, bookmark our support wiki for the Accademia here: wiki.wholelattelove.com/Gaggia_Accademia/cleaning_and_maintenance Lots of info there on setup, maintenance, etc. with videos, text, manuals, diagrams. For additional questions our coffee pros are available by phone, chat and email: www.wholelattelove.com/pages/contact-us My top tips for the Accademia: If doing mostly espresso, set the grinder a notch or 2 back from the finest setting and brew temp to the highest setting. Back off to coarser grind if espresso has bitter tones. Us the flow control - my favorite feature! Turn the knob by the coffee spouts to restrict/slow flow when making espresso let it flow faster if making longer coffees to avoid over-extraction. Use a water filter - it significantly increases the time between descalings. Test your water with the included water hardness test strip and enter the results when you start up the machine. When the machine alerts to descale do the descaling. It's the single most important thing to keep your machine running well for years to come. After making a milk drink always push the milk spout back over. When you do that the machine automatically runs steam through the milk components to clean them. Use good coffee! Don not use beans with visible surface oils. Everyone has different tastes, but if looking for ideas my all time favorite Italian style bean blend is the very reasonably priced (~$10/lb) Maromas Orphea: www.wholelattelove.com/products/maromas-orphea-whole-bean-espresso It gets excellent customer reviews as well! 4.9/5 stars with 124 total reviews. And hey, you probably racked up enough "Latte Rewards" with your purchase to get it for free. I drink it as straight espresso, long coffee and it's wonderful in milk drinks too. Hope that helps! Marc

@@Wholelattelovepage This is the reason why I subscribed and will always watch your videos, whether they pertain to me or not. Not only do you reply to comments, but they are thoughtful and complete, not even needing to ask any further questions because you went above and beyond. Thank you so much Marc for all the recommendations and tips, I am starting a notebook to make sure I learn to use the machine well and tailor it, your suggestions are perfect for me starting out because I honestly wouldn't have known what was best. I got your suggestions about flow control, grind size from your previous videos so thank you for reiterating those, and a big thanks for the coffee bean recommendation, that's the one thing I was definitely needing, since I am very new to the world of beans, growing regions, etc. Always appreciate you and your team, oh and a huge shout out to Maryann from your sales team that literally spent 30 minutes with me on a live chat through the website answering all my questions about the Accademia, warranty, return policy, etc. Your staff has exceeded my expectations!

Hi Marc. Love your videos, super helpful. Getting ready to order the Gaggia Anima Prestige, seems to be the best fit for us, and notice you have "refurbished" ones. Always love a deal but am I compromising getting a refurbished? Do you refurbish or is it from the factory? How does the warranty compare.
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark with a K, Thanks for the kind comment and question. We have Gaggia certified techs who refurbish the machines in-house. Most Gaggia refurbs are customer returns so many are barely used. Can't guarantee that but it's likely. Limited warranty on the refurbs is 6 months. Parts and labor warranty on new Animas is 2 years. Hope that helps! Marc

Hi Marc, Could you please advise, which of the machines ( Gaggia Babila or Accademia) has better manual milk frother?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 6 жыл бұрын
Anton Moisejev hi, thanks for the question. Essentially the same. There is a big difference with automatic milk. It’s programmable in 3 densities on the A and single density on the B. Something to keep in mind if you’re particular about froth quality and will be making one touch milk drinks.

which makes the best and strongest shot? which uses the most ground coffee per shot? how do they compare to Breville Oracle?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 6 жыл бұрын
Hi JK 241, Thanks for the question. Sorry not back to you sooner was offline for a couple days for Thanksgiving. You'll get the most control with the Babila. You can restrict flow to slow down extraction via the SPS dial near the spout. Accademia has the same function, but better control with more grind setting on the Babila. Compared to the Oracle, these are more automatic machines. The Oracle is kind of a hybrid between semi-auto and automatic in that you work with a portafilter from the built in grinder. You will have more control using the Oracle and can make a stronger shot with it.

Gaggia and Saeco are both subsidiaries of Phillips and I believe they use the same brew units. The machines may not be exactly the same, but they are very similar.

Hey Marc, thanks for the great video. I bought "Brera" 5 months ago upon ur recommendation, and it's the greatest investment I did in my coffee loving so far. It's performing amazingly for its price, and I believe that after a while super automatics will conquer the whole market. Let's face it, nothing better than having ur fix quickly. How long should it last in good performance, if properly used & well maintained? I use 3Kg coffee beans/ month.
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 6 жыл бұрын
SherifEgypt Hi SE, Thanks for sharing your experience with the Brera! Definitely the best value in super automatic machines. Feed it good water, stay away from beans with oily surface, rinse/lube the group and descale on schedule and you should easily get 5,000+ coffees with 10,000+ not out of the question. 3Kg/mo! You love your coffee!!!
@SherifEgypt
@SherifEgypt 6 жыл бұрын
LOL, 3Kg/mo.... Crazy, isn't it? That is about 10 -15 shots/day. Super autos turned that an easy task. Just a click, so I gave away my capsule machine which is not even as convenient let alone the cost & freshness. How often should I lube it & How? Do u have a video? Should I do that after each rinse/week? Thank u for ur prompt reply.

Is this model good for coffee shop ? can you please recommend which one would be suitable for coffee shop as Iam considering to have my own coffee shop open. Thanks
@SherifEgypt
@SherifEgypt 6 жыл бұрын
Katrina Chen I believe it should be working fine for a coffee shop, the coffee quality is really amazing, but on the long run it'll not be the best cost/effective option especially if u have a high customer flow. Moreover, u'll need some manual skills to make lattes. I think u can use it as starter till u get the business going, then u switch to Gaggia Accademia.

Thanks!! I have narrowed our choice to the Gaggia machine. But not sure between Anima prestige/Velasca or to pay the money for the Accademia? We definitely want the one touch machine but does the double boiler make that much of a difference ? ......a pro con video would also be great with these machines unless you have already addressed that ...but thanks again
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 5 жыл бұрын
Hi s, Thanks for the comment. The double boiler does speed things up when making milk drinks. If you can swing the Accademia I would go for it. Only machine of the 3 which has adjustable milk froth density which you can setr by drink in the menu. I have used the Accademia personally for 3 years. Another favorite feature is the SPS flow control dial. Makes a big difference! Especially if you switch between making espresso beverages and longer coffees. Decrease the flow when doing espresso for deep extractions and increase flow rate when doing larger cups of regular coffee to avoid over-extraction. Marc

There's excruciating detail here on how these make the coffee which is good, but would like to see lifecycle details how do you live with these machines including cleaning and service cycles, which are better?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Brett, Thanks for the comment. As for basic maintenance we do have videos with those details for many machines. Here's an example for the Gaggia Velasca Prestige: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h7uepZZ4yazDm4U.html The basics of living with these machines. Maintenance: Rinse the brew group weekly, clean milk components after use and deep clean weekly (some machines have automatic steam cleaning functions for daily cleaning, Descale as specified by manufacturer - machines will alert you do do that based on your water hardness, water filter use and number of cups made. Using an in reservoir water filter can eliminate descaling maintenance completely or significantly extend time periods between descaling. Use a filter on Jura machines and you never need to descale. On other machines using a water filter can extended descaling frequency out to once every 5,000 cups. As to which machines are better... They are all fairly comparable in ability to make good espresso and coffee if fed with good beans. Differences come in features and tuning of espresso brewing and milk prep.

thank you, will check out and factor that into buying decision. because there's nothing worse than waking up to a machine that won't make your drug at 6am in the morning because the service light is on... I've had the breville basic for a while, and am ready to move up to something significantly nicer.

Does the Babila not have adjustments for the frothing? Y not?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 5 жыл бұрын
Hi w, Thanks for the question. The Babila does not have the 3 levels of programmable froth density. I believe the reason is the inclusion of the manual frothing wand which is capable of producing latte art quality milk. Yes, the Gaggia Accademia has the wand as well as the programmable froth density. Marc

I wish there was a semi-automatic that looked as nice as some of the Gaggia super-automatic machines but I can't find a semi-automatic that seems to look as nice and have even as much (or more) control as something like a Gaggia Brera or Gaggia Anima.
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 6 жыл бұрын
00011theman well I’d say some semi-autos are nicer in the sense of being well (and usually hand) crafted machines. Control with a semi-auto comes thru grind size, dose weight etc. with the right skills semi-autos IMO have more control.
@00011theman
@00011theman 6 жыл бұрын
Whole Latte Love I suppose that is true. I know semi-autos have more control, and that's why I want one over a super-auto. I guess super-autos just give the impression of more control because of all the buttons and options, where a semi-auto only has one or two.
