My LCP is my go to for CC. Every day, every where it’s legal. Had it for years, works like a charm and quite functional one you get use to it. Way better in hot climates than any other small weapon.

I have the Bodyguard and the LCP Max. Both perform well for me and both are in my carry rotation. I think people expect way too much out of these tiny guns. These are made for up close and ugly encounters, not shooting bullseyes at 20 yards. In a street defense scenario, you don't have time to use the sights or "aim" at the bad guy, you only have time to draw and empty the mag center mass into the threat. For this purpose, these pistols will do the job. These are not what you carry for hiking through bear country or traveling through the south side of Chicago. These are for low risk area's as a "just in case" weapon or a backup to your larger caliber pistol.

The Kahrs are all simply superb! The 9mm PM9 and CM9 are only a tiny bit larger than the other .380s and can fit 8-round mags that stick out a bit. The design minimizes 9mm recoil somehow too---they are very shootable!.....................elsullo

I had a Bodyguard that gave me a ton of problems. I sent it back to S&W twice, never worked reliably. Tossed it. I've had 3 versions of the original LCP. The "1st gen" (minimal sights), Custom (red trigger), and the later version with slightly bigger sights. They all worked 100%. I guess you can say im bias in Ruger's favor. Also had a Taurus TCP738, which i regret selling. it worked very reliably too.

Try shooting a box of 50 rounds at the range using a one handed grip. Mine was super reliable if I had a nice two handed grip. Once I started shooting one handed it had FTE and FTF. I stopped carrying it after that.

I traded away an LCP to get the S&W Bodyguard. The LCP was too small to grip so it would act like limp wristing . The Bodyguard is easier to grip and doesn't malfunction as a result. YMMV. Thank you for the review.

i own BOTH the LCP MAX & M&P Bodyguard with NO external safety (police model). The sights on BOTH LCP MAX & M&P Bodyguard sights can be replaced with Williams Fiber sights and they use the same sights... The LCP MAX is a much more comfortable gun to shoot at the range because of the wider pistol grip than the M&P Bodyguard... The trigger on the M&P Bodyguard is a TRUE double action as it has double strike.... I did have a slide issue with the LCP MAX at first but Ruger exchanged the new slide and NO further issues and the slide locks back on an empty magazine just fine...
@unclenunzie
@unclenunzie 16 күн бұрын
If the M&P Bodyguard 380 was available without a thumb safety I'd already own one. I have an original LCP, a current, recent production LCP, an LCP II and two LCP MAXs. The MAX magazines not locking back during dry handling has always been an issue but never (for me) during live fire in either of my maxes. Thus I trust them for carry when going below 9mm. But Ruger isn't actually fixing the issue for whatever reasons they may have. Ruger's LCPs of all stripes are generally very reliable, but they don't rise to the quality you might expect from top tier brands. Before anyone gets twisted over it, yes, I said it, Ruger is not a top tier brand. They make decent guns and back them with a generally good repair policy, but they keep things as cheap as possible. Which is fine as they have always been a working man's gun company, and that's ok.

I have a new Bodyguard the mag falls out when shooting. It also drops the slide when I drop the mag for a reload. S &W quality control right now in 2024 is pretty bad. I just carry the lcp without a round in the chamber as Ruger even says it is not drop safe. The Bodyguard has a firing pin safety block like Glock which why I purchased it. But it has to go back. For a general carry/trail gun it is now my Glock 42.

I had a LCP Custom for 6 years carried it all the time unless at work (prohibited). It was easy to carry, practiced with it and got good, but sometimes because of its diminutive size my hand would interfere with the slide. Changed to SW 642, never looked back. It felt heavier for several months, but got used to it and love it for pocket carry and with practice makes proficiency.

I sold my bodyguard. I had it 2018 to 2023. It started having a issue with the mag falling out in 2021. I tried all sorts of grips and let others shoot it, same thing. Lost my confidence. Mine was like yours, gen 2 no laser, I had 5 mags for it. It also had bad issues with peening near the extractor. So I finally sold it. I got a lcp gen 1 in 2023, worked like a charm, it rusted really bad and i had to strip the barrel with vinegar, leaving it in the white. I sold it because I ended up getting a Beretta apx a1 carry instead.

I am CONVINCED that if any of us ever have to fire a gun in self defense, the trigger will be the last thing on our minds. The idea that anyone is going to listen for a click or focus on a tactile reset is not likely. Once someone fires the first shot, probably in low light without hearing protection, both sight and hearing are going to be compromised. I have never had to fire a weapon in self defense, but I HAVE had to present one and be willing to fire. The stiffness of the trigger was not on my mind at the time.
@marcg.3830
@marcg.3830 15 күн бұрын
@@jonathanhines2441 the better the trigger the more accurate someone will be,especially someone who doesn’t train. These two guns have terrible triggers. No one said anything about listening for a reset or a click when in a self defense situation, but a terrible trigger will make someone much more prone to pull the shot or anticipate more and this can be terribly detrimental in a high stress situation if someone had to use it. Shoot a sig p238 against either of these two guns and tell me which one you’d rather have if you were in a situation like that again!

I was looking for a pocket gun and had narrowed the search down to these two. Just handling both of them new at the gun store,I liked the rugers trigger better. But before deciding on it ,I went to a local range that had both guns in rental. Now keep in mind both guns were rentals and who knows how many thousands of rounds had fired from them. They both looked to have equal wear. With a two finger grip on both guns you have to hold them both pretty tight. I noticed that when I squeezed the ruger a little too hard the magazine would drop down just enough to take the gun out of battery. Now I could cup my grip and hold the magazine in place. But the M&P didn't have that problem. So I bought the M&P. I feel confident I made the right choice. I have taken it to the range and practiced with it every time I shoot hand guns. It runs flawlessly. I carry it when I walk my dog at night. I live in Florida where bathing suits are formal attire. Wearing a bathing suit a tee shirt and flip flops. I have no problem putting it in my bathing suit pocket and concealing it.

I really like both of these tools... The LCP Max truly raised the bar for this type of purpose built tool. IF S&W would update the Bodyguard .380 I believe they could regain the market share of these small pews. The current version has been around for some time now... Thank you for a very useful review. I especially appreciate your mentions of which guns are double-action-only or partially cocked, which is why I own Kahr pistols! Most reviewers do not even think of this issue. You could have mentioned that you can PAINT THE SIGHTS in any way that works best for you: two different colors for front and rear; white outline rear (my preference---just "drop the ball into the basket") You can use enamel model paint, nail polish, or my favorite, white TYPEWRITER CORRECTION FLUID. The TCF is available in sponge-tipped pens now and is VERY BRIGHT and quite durable and easy to touch up. Any solvent will remove it if you want to change it................................elsullo

I’ve carried the original LCP for well over 10 yrs, hundreds of rounds of FMJ & self defense HP, absent a single malfunction of any kind. It has a Hogue grip sleeve, the seven round mag to help w/my XLG hands & is carried in a DeSantis pocket holster. A drop of white paint on the front sight does help to some extent.

The original LCP is one of the worst carry pistols ever made. I’d rather risk slide bite from a walther PPK than carry that thing.
@elsullo2
@elsullo2 16 күн бұрын
The cure for the PPk slide bite is a simple rubber grip sleeve with a 'finger ridge" or two. This makes it MUCH easier to shoot without the muzzle rise that causes the bite. It is also just a LITTLE bigger than the other pocket .380s which really improves handling and accuracy, and NO slide bite............................elsullo

The bodyguard wins for me for one reason: It is a DAO ONLY pistol. For deep concealment and pocket carry, it strikes me as a safer gun to carry, amost like a revolver, and that is important to me since tgis is a gun that will likely be carried in pockets and tight places possibly with other objects and ready to be drawn quickly from possibe a non conventional holster or storage device. I wish it hadmore capacity of 10 or more and be a Bodyguard Plus...Time will tell if S&W will make one or not...

Both of these guns are pieces of shit. The M&P is practically useless out of the box due to the trigger being so bad. You’re pretty much forced to get a trigger job done on it if you plan to shoot it at all and good luck finding a gunsmith who will do it for you. It’s a giant pain is ass and even after all of this it’s still unreliable. With all of this said however it’s still a well constructed weapon. The LCP is just cheap junk that jams all the time. If you’re going to go with a .380 you need to go with an Walther ccp or a ppk. The SW EZ’s are pretty good too. You just can’t go with those plastic mouse guns

For me, it’s not really the trigger - it’s the trigger reach. It’s way too short which makes me shoot low left by the time the trigger breaks. I am ok with DAO pistols but most of those are revolvers. The revolvers have a much longer trigger reach which prevents me from “pushing” the pistol down and left before the trigger break.

I guess that the concept of "double-action-only" is lost upon you? I wonder: have you broken in any of these guns, starting with cleaning and lubing right out of the box? Have you tried several types and brands of ammo, and none in cheap bulk boxes from FartMart stores? It is odd how your experience it so different than so MANY other shooters who find them perfectly reliable with a little care........................elsullo
