One of the reasons these sound so awesome is the $1000+ amp and cab combo it’s being played through

Results would be the same if played in a $100 amp, and still, most of those do sound pretty good regardless of the amp you put them through.
@pilotreg

Imagine the amp as the cup and the bass as a sponge filled with water and the larger your skill level the more you can squeeze from the sponge to the cup. The better the amp the larger the cup, the better the bass the larger the sponge and larger your skill level the more you can squeeze from the sponge to the cup. If you can squeeze more water from the sponge than the cup can hold your amp is restricting your full potential, if there's not enough water in the sponge the bass is restricting you and if there's too much space left in the cup and there's still water in the sponge you are set and / or practice more. Cables , effects peddles and other gear can help you aswell of course.

Goes to show the amp is the more important of the pair. But as said below an inexpensive amp is still going to sound good. Technology has come so far.

@jakefoxx7978 3 жыл бұрын
@@jeffreylarson7646 I personally like the dark to light differences with the Indian Laurel, which is funny because I ordered a custom pick made of the same wood and the fretboard looks tons darker. Something about bright colored basses with equally bright wood for the fretboard has visually displeased me. Anyways, I love my slick silver squier and half-step versions of songs sound great on it. After I fixed the intonation I can't say the difference was mind blowing, but that's probably because I've stuck with the default strings since I got it for Christmas. Did you change your strings and set it up? How much better is it?

From the best prices I can find online, it's only $44 USD more than the HB that he liked at the beginning of the vid. And alot of why he seemed to like that was color combination.

The Squier Jazz is a traditional Jazz Bass. What more "features" does it need? It has all of the features any traditional Jazz Bass has. Also, it isn't that much more expensive than the Harley Benton - it's just 50 bucks more. You can't really get a much cheaper bass than that - it's actually one of the cheapest basses out there from a "proper" brand (not a store brand like Harley Benton). Can't really comment on the quality of that particular instrument, but your criticism of it just didn't make much sense to me.

-better quality pickups -better quality tuners -more consistent quality -better body wood I think these can be improved. See the Harley Benton JB-75. It's cheaper but much better than the Affinity. Roswell Alnico V pickups, ash body, good tuners and consistent quality

MaggaraMarine , I agree. I have exactly that Squier Jazz and I tested it against several Jazz basses at the shop when I bought it. I think Patrick is not being entirely fair. My bass plays great, has plenty of punch and output, almost no hum when soloed, balances great, stays in tune and fits well when I have it strapped on or sitting. Plus I only paid $200 for it, so hardly any more than the PJ that was featured first. I thought that one had a worse sounding bridge pickup than the Squier.
@rodshop5897
@rodshop5897 4 жыл бұрын
@@dezsodebreceni4829 I realize we are only sharing opinions, and I'm no "Fender Fan" but I don't understand your complaints. I have this exact model and color Jazz, and don't understand what you are thinking that this bass fails against? The pickups sound good, and I thought the bridge sounded better than the HB in this vid. The tuners are stable and have good action. Quality is good throughout, holes drilled accurately, good fretwork, no paint blemishes. Wood is painted, so wood quality is irrelevant on an electric instrument. I've not played the Harley Benton JB-75, but from this video, I didn't think it was really any better, and it's only $44 USD less than the best prices for each. Granted, if you want a PJ instead of a J, get the JB-75, but for a Jazz, this one is pretty nice for the price.

@@rodshop5897 so i'll give you the bridge pickup having more punch in the squier, but the price difference is actually 70 USD and the harley benton has better body wood, tuners, saddles (brass) and overall fretwork and playability. So in the end these two are still better than all others from the video but i think even if the difference is not huge, harley benton has clearly many more advantages and only one disatvantage; the bridge pickup (which you could well cover with $70 spare ).

I must add a comment here, the Dean bass I bought new, stuck on rotosounds and it sings! The bass in the demo suffers from factory strings and no set up-I have played bass for 25 years and the feel and tone from this thin is fantastic

Bronco bass pickup is not at all a lipstick pickup, more of a chinese strat pickup with a white mustang cover. it still uses 6 pole pieces bc it's a guitar pickup, not a lipstick pickup which is a bar magnet with wire wrapped directly around it inside of a metal lipstick tube. Still a cool little bass though, and very mod-worthy.

I have the pink and my drummer has the green. Honestly I thought about getting a better pickup but it really does sound great. I play on an ampeg and DR fat beams strings. It's a great bass for the price.

Those Squiers actually surprised me. What are your thoughts on the Squier VM Jaguar w/ a single humbucker? I recently acquired one and am on the fence about it. Love the jag bass body, but might mod the heck out of it to be usable.. or just sell..

The comments about the Squire don't resonate with me. I unintentionally bought a Squire Affinity Jazz recently (long story) and was very surprised by its robust build and thumping sound when it arrived. It sounds just like a jazz should and certainly sounds just as good as my Ibanez, MTD, Epi's, and custom basses... Sure, it came poorly setup and carries the 'Affinity' stigma... but it was certainly worth the money paid. It is now on loan to a student - only because the other basses weren't getting played... I appreciate that this video is only a subjective review, but based on my experience it felt like the Squire was too quickly dismissed.

My experience exactly. Just bought a Squier Affinity jazz bass and was very hesitant, but decided to save some money and go for it. It's arguably better then the Squier CV I had in terms of fit and finish. As you said, a robust build (alder body, similar weight to my Fender Mexican jazz) and the pick-ups sound like a jazz should. Bought it as a beater bass for travel, but I think it's such good value that I may buy something even cheaper for travel and alternate between the Fender and Squier as my main basses.

My son bought a Bronco with his own money at age 10 for his first bass, and now over 12 years later he plays Music Man and other basses. I wanted to borrow his Bronco to take to some jams and keep at my house but he didn’t want to part with it so I bought my own.

Nice! I would like to customize also my indo affinity p-bass (which I think are not as good as the new ones with a PJ config) with some pickups maybe with geezer buttler as they're solderless and I then don't need a wiring kit and pots or cooper to isolate the thing. What do you think? Cheers

Yo, random question Which is lighter? The PJ-74 or the B-550 I’d love to add a new bass to my “collection” (Which is currently only a Warwick Thumb) Now that I’m starting to gig more often, I just want something lightweight...and an instrument that isn’t near $2000 dollars

These things are so subjective,I learnt on an 80s Squier Jazz and now nothing compares to that super slim fast neck 38mm nut width,I’d love to have one of those Harley Bentons but I know I’d hate the wider deeper neck,so it would have to be the affinity and put some better pickups in later down the line.

I'd love to hear (no pun intended) your take on the Yamaha TRBX line. Specifically, I have a TRBX204 I bought new earlier this year for $200 (they list at $280) on a Guitar Center sale. Needed a bit of a set up (no surprise there), but otherwise it's been solid for me so far. My first bass! (Been playing guitar for decades, though.) I have my eye on an American Player P-Bass next.
