A video about the new Spiers Plane made in Ayr Scotland, that I just received. I talk about tuning and cleaning it. Compared to the Stanley planes, it is heavier and that really makes for some great shavings. #planes #woodworking

A craftsman showing his love for his tools. Pride of possession has no measuring units. It can only be observed in the loving hand rubbing on the beloved tool now and then putting polish and again and again rubbing it and the satisfied voice and look on the face. A lovely plane owned by a wonderful person. Regards, enjoy your plane. Woodworking is one of the best wines 🍷.

What a great piece. Beautiful subject and I really appreciate the quiet sound free transitions, the visual beats that stand alone. No music, perfect. I also really like your presentation and how you genuinely share your reactions with confidence mixed with candid moments of wonder if your not sure about a detail. Refreshing. Bravo!!

It's a lovely plane and the sound of the shaving being made is as nice as the end result.

Hi chester. I Enjoyed this video. I live in north ayrshire Scotland. I also love stewart spiers of ayr tools and equally mathieson (glasgow). Please remember these quality tools are Scottish.

Thank you. Of course. It’s in the title.

Yes Chester. That mark is older than the ornate lever cap you have on the later smoother. Glad you enjoy Spiers planes. Hans Brunner's book "Infill Planes" will tell you all you need to know about yours. Definitely worth getting a copy. I'm thrilled to see you use Alfieshine on the planes...he will be very pleased! ✌

I would think anyone that would/could or want a plane such as that would have never done such a job to the bevel as you found/fixed.

I was going to make a comment about the wood, until you "whipped out" Alfieshine! (why of course that is what brought out the life of that plane!!!)

Chester, I apologise if I came over a bit rude in my comments ( I am sorry for that ) maybe it’s because I’m so jealous and don’t own any of these lovely planes ? Regards Hugh.
@ChetSpier2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that. I didn’t really take it as rude, and I was not offended in any way. I appreciate peoples love for these tools and as well their county’s history. I appreciate you apology and hope you will keep watching my content and participating in the discourse. I love that aspect of all of this. 🙏🏼

Chester, you’re a lovely person and your planes are just wonderful but they were made in Ayr Scotland and Scotland is not part of England

Thank you. I certainly understand that the planes in this video are Scottish planes, but sometimes, as my oratory is not scripted, i mis-speak. In referring to the " English" planes early in the video i am referring really to the Norris planes, I've seen with the extended soles.ie: mitre planes. later in the video i do refer to my love for "these English planes" and i am wrong in that but don't have the capacity to correct it. My apologies if i have offended anyone with that error. Again thanks.

It's scottish

Yes, and I note that in the title and twice in the video to be clear. Towards the end I refer to English planes and the differences to the Spiers plane but I do make an error in my speech toward the end. You are not the first to note this, but I no longer have the capacity to correct it.

Hello. Aye we are all quick to get our opinion in. I've seen you on benchtalk 101 quite good. First time I've heard Karl holtey speaking thought he was very good. But oh what a long road for a wee hammer.
