Ninja Övergaard, PhD, Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden, describes the findings of a retrospective population and registry-based study that evaluated different chemotherapy regimens used to treat older patients with classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL). The study compared three main regimens: ABVD (doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine, dacarbazine), AVD (doxorubicin, vinblastine, dacarbazine), and CHOP (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, prednisone). No significant differences in overall survival (OS) were observed between the ABVD and AVD groups, while both were superior to CHOP. These findings indicate that the bleomycin component of ABVD treatment regimens can be omitted to reduce toxicity while maintaining efficacy.
