You can also use a calculator and divide the numerator by the denominator and get a decimal for each. Compare the decimal numbers and the one with largest one is correct. 25/28 =0.892 53/59 = 0.898 ✅ 93/105 = 0.885

I’d love to see a proof. He gets the right answer, but I’m not really following why. Personally, since there isn’t an obvious answer, I’d just pop these into a calculator and compare the decimal approximations.

The whole point in these exams is to not use a calculator, it's not allowed, so they teach shortcuts

The proof in a nutshell: if you scale each fraction in a group to have the same numerator, the one with the largest denominator is the smallest. If you understand that, then you can see that given the fractions 3/28, 6/59 and 12/105, making all the numerators become 12 results in denominators of 112, 118, and 105. So 6/59 is the smallest making 53/59 the largest.

There is a simpler way to solve 25/28 is 50/56 which obviously is smaller than 53/59 now 93/105 is obviously smaller than 53/59 as for 53/59 to reach 93/105 it needs 40/46 which is obviously easy

The largest fraction will have the smallest difference between numerator and denominator if all the denominators are equal , so for it to have the same difference , both numerator and denominator must be bigger , thus the largest numerator is the biggest number

Hi can can help 3, 6, and 12 are the difference between the numerator ( top ) and denomination (bottom) … Using LCM (least common multiplier) between those numbers is 12 ..(3,4,12). 3 goes into 12 four times so 4 times 25 the first numerator which is 100 …. 6 goes into 12 twice so 53 multiplied by 2 for second numerator which is 106 … and last numerator is already done cause 12 goes into 12 once so is multiplied by one … 93

I always thought fractions were parts of a whole. The denominator, being, how many parts will equal the whole and the numerator, being, the number of parts the whole is divided into. Therefore, in my cursory view of the question, I immediately concluded that 25 over 28 was the biggest since it only needed three parts to make it whole (25+3=28 ... 28 over 28 = 1) Maybe my definition of "the biggest" is misunderstood, or my reasoning doesn't apply to every condition.

@@Ironman-BB if the fraction has bigger number in mumerator than denominator then it is called as improper fraction. For example, 11/5, 100/28, 99/36 these are improper fractions.

You can just write it in mixed form and if the whole numbers are the same , then can apply this on the fraction part
