This demo is so valuable. I have fine, high porosity, med density, 3c/4a curls. I'm of the impression that Ouidad may be more effective, retain the cast better, during the summertime or high humidity. I didn't see any halo of frizzies. AG really passed the test: wind plays havoc with my curls, whipping them into dandelion fluff 😅. Ive not tried either, but have added Ouidad and AG Liquid Effects to my cart. I'm In Michigan and all my lovely daffies and hyacinths are wearing heavy hats of snow! (Harumppff). I tried your suggestion to use more water, more lv-in, and more gel. I left out the curl cream (forgot to use it) and used only the lv-in and gel, finger-combing in the products. Was also mindful of working in sections, which was new for me. I micro-plopped (using the Hair RePear towel) to remove excess product and water. Using prayer hands, i lightly applied heat protectant and diffused. [Edit: also used Suave clarify and Twist mask] Whoosh what a difference! The primary steps you employ in styling are so essential! and choosing the proper product for one's curls, porosity, and density going will help bring even happier results. My curls were not as see-through, about the thickness of the "bungee bang" you were testing 😊 Your videos are making a difference, and I am grateful. 😊 Thank you for taking the time and care to send me to your other helpful links. I've tried the Ouidad and didn't like it but now I will be trying out the AG one since it doesn't have the oils and butters. (I have fine hair!) Thanks Gena! Oh, I like the AG better on you, it looked more defined and "put together" thn the Ouidad. 🙂

Great video! I tried the Ouidad and got very soft hold, looked great on day one but didn’t last. Just recently tried the AG… I get way more hold and use less than 1/4 of what I did with the Ouidad! I wonder if it’s down to AG’s lack of oils/butters and/or the inclusion of silicone… so interesting how differently products work on different heads of hair! Thank you so much for the AG recommendation, and it’s actually quite affordable with how little I have to use ❤

As a 2B-c wavy, I love a product that gives more shrinkage and hold. I recently picked up the Curlsmith Shape Up, it's changed the way I feel about using gel on my fine low density hair. Ouidad might be a great Summer option for me. Thank you Gena.

Honestly I preferred the look of your hair with the AG gel, wash day and the following days. I have fine but high density curly hair and I use the Verb Foaming Gel and really like that one. I get great but soft hold, lots of volume and lasting results., even into day 2 and 3.

I tried the Ouidad gel without any curl cream and with less water in my hair. Game changer for sure. So much better hold, less frizz on day 2& 3. Looking forward to see how day 4 looks. Easy refresh with just damp hands. Bring the cast right back. I am also loving the bounce new curl defining brush. 😊 🌀❤

Your hair looked pretty similar (and great) with both gels. I tried the Liquid Effects last washday and I love it so far. I had a lot less frizz and a little less volume at first but the volume improved once I fluffed it out without as much frizz as usual, and my hair is staying nice with a lot less refreshing. I feel like there's a balance between no volume and no frizz - you need a little frizz to get good volume. I've tried Ouidad in the past and it just doesn't work for me - the last time a hairdresser used it on my hair, my hair ended up looking like straw, so I'm not tempted to try it again. Just got the Ouidad strong hold gel. This gel has changed my life. Had the old Ouidad gel and it was Okay? This was hard to buy in Canada. Got the last bottle at Sally’s. It was not cheap but it is my go to now! Thanks!

I have tried both over the years and I much prefer the AG hair gel. I have fine hair and the Ouidad gel weighs it down and makes it look wet (it also irritates my scalp). The AG gel, on the other hand, provides the perfect hold and is much gentler on sensitive scalps. The smell of the AG gel is also much lighter. Just my two cents!

I use the Ouidad gel with the new Innersence gel and OMG I barely have frizz and I get volume. For reference my hair is extremely fine and low density/porosity. Forgot to add that I use the Bounce curl clump cream underneath.

I like the AG results better, and I'll try that because it doesn't have the butters, which are too heavy for my hair. I've only tried a couple of Ouidad products and didn't like them, so maybe I'm a bit biased. I actually went to their salon many years ago and hated what they did to my hair - I went right home and washed it all out!

I’m a 4a coily but I’m finding that I ‘m needing more fine curly haired products to my peri-menopausal time of life right now. I love Kinky Curly gel but it’s not cutting the mustard on its own for some time now. Especially with my grays being extremely rebellious and insubordinate. 😂 I’ve bought both gels and look forward to my hair not looking like crap anymore.

Thanks for the video. I use AG Liquid Effects quite often and have not used Ouidad. I am unable to use Ouidad due to the ingredients including Sweet Almond which I am allergic to. I wish AG made larger packaging for this gel but they did with Recoil so maybe they will soon. I do find that AG has sales quite often but I don’t see Ouidad going on sale much. I always appreciate your detailed reviews and comparisons. Are you going to compare their curl creams next?

Heyy Gena! Now I don’t know if you already done a video about it but I am asking for a video about hair mousse. I have long thick curly hair and I like to use mousses instead of gels, but sometimes it’s hard because if i missed any spots they will end up frizzy, and also I sometimes feel like I didn’t put enough mousse so I put more than I need. I reallyyyyyy like your videos and really benefit from them💗💗

I would like to know how these compare to curl smith gels - I have curl defining styling soufflé, shape up aqua gel and fragrance free shine gel, I also have ouidad gel that you used. I never know what results I will get on any given wash day! so many products to use in combination, so many variables - any suggestions?

Hey Gena, I’m wondering if you’re ever experienced this feeling when using the Kinky Curly Curling Custard: I’ve been using the Curling Custard for many years now, since about 2013/2014. I actually love this gel and I get great hair days from it, but something I’ve only experienced with this gel has stumped me forever. When I’ve used it with either their Knot Today leave-in or the Giovanni Direct Leave-In (these have been my two fav leave-ins for years), the gel somehow immediately makes all the silky slip in my hair from the leave-in disappear. Because of this, raking it in my hair doesn’t work as then it feels like I’m pulling & tugging on my hair as the slip is gone. Only praying hands and scrunching method are possible for me with the CC. I’ve tried other gels from other brands and none of them have this effect on my hair and I can rake them in just fine if I want to. Do you know why this could be? What ingredients could be responsible for this effect?

Tried the Ouidad gel in humid Midwest summer and it does not work at all. My hair turned into a frizz ball. And I made sure to coat every strand and had a good cast. When the cast was broken it just did not hold up at all. I need a sticker gel I guess.

I ve tried the Ouidad stronger humidity gel and the original one. I’ve even tried the vital curls gel. I have low porosity high density medium texture hair with grey. But the gels especially the stronger hold ones made my hair stringy and dry with loss of definition and volume. But the second day my hair looks even more stringy and dry and I did leave conditioner in my hair. I wish these gels worked for me. May I should try AG?

ouidad creates a dust (?) on my hair after it dries. if i scruch my hair i get a layer of fine white dust like stuff. Only happens with that gel.

Can I ask, I’ve just started using the strong hold Curlsmith shine gel. I’m on day 3. No frizz but my hair is super crunchy. I’ve tried using oil to break it up but not helping enough. Is this just a sign that I’ve used too much gel?

I use Innersense I Create Hold (gel) followed by I Create Lift (foam). Which do you suggest lightly glazing after micro plopping?

I have protein sensitive hair. I would love the high humidity hold but prefer it to not contain protein. Do you know of a gel that would fit the bill?

Are there any good leave in conditioners that work well with it that dont contain glycerin (i dont mind a little glycerin in gel if theres polyquats, but the less glycerin the better for me)? I use Curls blueberry bliss as a holy grail leave in. i used to pair it with jessicurl spiralicious and i found jessicurl to be awesome until the end of the bottle when it began to leave me producty even after clarifying. i want to try AG but would it pair ok with blueberry bliss?

I find Liquid effects still leaves me with frizz and does not performe very well with humidity (I apply Fast Food, Recoil or Details and Mousse before the gel). Have you tried the Hard Jel? I can't find reviews on this gel even though I find it has very good hold and a nice feeling on my hair. Thanks.

I use the jessicurl gel you recomendet and i love it on my high porosity hair. Since it is a little bit drying I tryed the ouidad gel but I did‘nt like it at all. My hair felt totaly dry and brittle and was frizzy. Could it be because of the glycerin? I always use the moroccan curlcream under the gel and clarify regularly.

How do u pick gel or cream? Does it depend on: wash day or what your haur feels like it needs that week?

I quit the obsession perfect curls whitout frizz.tons of products. My hair looks better now.when i see previous videos on your channel i see that your hair is very tin.i had my tailbone 2 c hair chopped of bcz the methods what influencers do ruined my hair.i regret that i was influenced on social media.i follow you a wile now and i noticed that your hair is very tin.when i see videos from jears ago your hair looked much better.all these products brush styling diffuse is not healty at all.

Hands down Ouidad is the winner for me. I have long, thinning coarse hair and the AG initially looks great but a few hours later the hold is gone. Ouidad on the other hand gives me good definition with a couple days of hold ➿
