Comparing the Mercedes-Benz S-class against the Genesis G90, Luxury Flagships | OpenRoad Auto Group

Күн бұрынFor decades now, the Mercedes-Benz S-class has been the benchmark for all other luxury cars to measure themselves against. But in the last 10 years, a new player has joined the market from Korea. The Genesis G90 is aiming to compete against the established luxury brands such as BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz.
In the past, the Mercedes S-class was available as a short wheelbase or a long wheelbase. For the 2023 model year, it’s only available in the long wheelbase version. What that means is more legroom in the back seats. You can option the car with power adjustable rear seats and if you sit behind the front passenger seat, you can make that seat move forward and recline the rear seat for more comfort. Additionally, these rear seats can be heated, ventilated, and massaging.
By comparison, the Genesis G90 is also available in one wheelbase and it is similar to the long wheelbase version of the Mercedes S-class. That means that there is a lot of legroom in the back seats even if you’re very tall. Like the Mercedes, the G90 has power operated rear seats with a heating and ventilating function.
The 2023 Genesis G90 starts at $115,000 and there aren’t too many options that you can add onto it. It’s already very well equipped. The Mercedes S500 starts at $143,000 with the S580 costing $155,800. With the Mercedes-Benz, you can also add a lot of packages and options which will raise the price by quite a bit.

Agreed, the scary thing, everyone thinks Hyundai is a small company. They own Kia, of course Genesis, they are the sole manufacturer of supertankers, they manufacture the majority of box cars for the railroad. They even own 51% of AMD. I think as of 2023 they have a corporate network worth over 39 Billion. The only one worth more is Toyota and no one is coming close to their 292 Billion.

I had two S550s and this past November purchased my first G 90. This car for exceeds the Mercedes S class in my opinion. and I can’t go anywhere without people coming up separately to me asking me about the car and how absolutely beautiful my 2023 blue G 90 is. There are S5 50s everywhere and if you really want to stand out in absolute luxury, get a Genesis G90! You won’t be disappointed.

Look under the sheet metal and the difference between Genesis and the Germans are miles apart, Germans use a better and more expensive control arms and links in the rear. According to JD Power it score the lowest of "ANY PREMIUM BRAND" with a a 756 customer satisfaction rating. I been in every model Genesis there is as many many true luxury brands. What has Genesis mastered or is known for ms ignorance is bliss? Germans are faster, corner better, innovative, acknowledged..... Genesis don't hit the same, no one looks at a Genesis the way they do a Benz, Audi or Beemer. Famous people,Rich people don't buy them, I don't hear no one screaming Genesis in music, TV shows.... they're a Korean effort and I'll show you just how ignorant you are.....Prove me wrong

As far as design goes, G90 tops. The comfort, however, S-class, but G90 is not far behind. For ordinary people like me, Genesis G90 was a better choice.

This car is amazing in almost every aspect! I recently surprised my wife with the 2024 E Supercharged in Makalu Gray with the all white interior. This is our 5th Genesis vehicle and her 2nd G90, which is a 2021 5.0. In silver with the taupe interior. My wife says the 2024 is only missing the 5.0 8 cylinder. If she wants more acceleration, she just jumps in her 2022 C8 Corvette LT2 Z51. Remember, a happy wife is a blessing!😇

They picked the wrong color to show for the G90.... The MAKALU GRAY MATTE hands down makes this car.... But it is a $1500 option.... I keep forgetting the prices are higher in Canada.... Fully loaded with the MATTE finish the G90 is $101K

Such a beautiful car & I want a G90 so bad, but ALL Genesis Service Department reviews on all of Yelp is nothing but complaints & horrible reviews regarding wait times, cars sitting waiting for parts & repairs, the lack of care, no call backs to customers, no loaners EVER available (like their warranty contract states) & so many other complaints in at ALL Genesis Dealership Service Departments across the USA, the list goes on & on. Genesis Dealership's Service Departments sound totally worthless & this makes the warranty basically VOID & worthless to me & makes me totally reluctant on purchasing one. How is any warranty worth anything if they lie on the warranty contract in regards to their service and don't care about their customer base in Service Departments EVERYWHERE across the USA? If I was to buy I'd have to take it to ANY other mechanic than a Genesis dealership service department that is worthless. It makes no sense in buying a new car. Genesis is RUINING their dealerships & making BORKEN PROMISES to customers it sounds like to me on their warranties on their vehicles because their Dealership Service Department sound totally worthless. I'm second guessing buying a G90 for these main reasons.

You didn’t answer my question. Did you ever have a G90 or drive one for a while?I’ve had two S class Mercedes and 4 750 BMWs. They all kept me broke. My G90 has 3 years full no cost maintenance. They pick it up and drop me off a loaner. Never had anything like that before. What’s not to like?

I honestly don't agree when he said the Mercedes had a luxurious look. To me it looks so bland and safe, nothing about it says "high end luxury." Which isn't to say that it looks bad or ugly, just that it's nothing special. If I didn't know what it was I'd assume it would be in the same class as the Honda Civic or Ford Taurus. The Genesis at least has the opulent and elaborate grill and 2 slit headlights to distinguish it from other cars. The Benz doesn't have anything like that, at least not on the exterior.

The Mercedes is down to having to use their long history / the badge and image to entice new buyers. The Genesis will prove to be a better far more reliable and long lasting car, with far fewer unplanned trips to the shop that will be a common situation with the Mercedes after a few 10 thousand kilometres on the clock. Genesis is now doing to the high end German cars, what Lexus did to them just over 30 years ago. I would get the Genesis because I believe in buying the car, not the badge.

I want to like the G90, but it looks generic from the outside. I get the appeal, no one is buying G80s and G90s, so it is unique in comparison to the E-class and s-class sedans out there. Id take the 7 series, S-class and S90 over the Korean car based on styling. I think the Genisis will not age well.

Opulence ...it's a Asian upperclass thing not something you necessarily appreciate in a car, unless you're the owner of the Sistine Chapel. To compare a 20 year old newcomers copy to Daimler-Benz's 150 year pioneering history does not even amout to a cheap insult. Go and educate yourself - or say nothing.

And after 20 years of trying they're rising up every year. Mercedes on the other hand is still falling down with almost every model. Lack of design ideas, weak engines, more plastic, it's like when wealthy brands pretending they're better. Guess what, even Lexus LC 500h have better suspension than S class and it's even a GT! Yeah 150 years for nothing but arrogance, greed and lazyness. That's what have become of german brands, once pure, classic, masterpiece. Excellent analysis mister, I could only hope you analyze your potencial wife better...

Neither would be my choice. The Genesis exterior is overstyled, too busy, while the interior dash is dull and homely looking. The Mercedes exterior is nicer to look at, easier on the eyes. More classy. The interior dash looks too much like an upscale Tesla. Both back seats excel, is that enough?.. I'd rather be chauffeured around in a vintage Rolls Royce for around $50k, but who has actual money?

Im from Germany The Most People loved in the past Mostly Mercedes bmw Audi But Mercedes and bmw Look More and More to minimal Design at Materials No Wood or Not Many in Options All at Displays no Design for other Parts in your car But Genesis Shows That modern Look Is Not all They Give very Good Materials and high end leather with a Good Design I read from People in Germany : say the new bmw 7 and 5 has Not Nice luxury Design at 2023 Cars and Genesis g90 Shows what it Is now I say Genesis G90 👍👍👍

This car is amazing in almost every aspect! It's just missing the 8 cylinder. I recently surprised my wife with this 2024 E Supercharged in Makalu Gray with the all white interior. This is our 5th Genesis vehicle and her 2nd G90, which is a 2021 5.0. In silver with the taupe interior and the crazy Maybach looking wheels. Although my wife says the 2024 is quick enough for her but not like our 5.0 8 cylinder. If she wants more acceleration, she just jumps in her 2022 C8 Corvette LT2 with the Z51 package. 0-60 2.9 seconds. I am an exotic guy myself, but I must admit Chevrolet took the Corvette from an American Sports car into an exotic class for a lot less money. Wait until I take delivery on the 2024 C8 Z06 I ordered. She does have access to my car collection! Remember, a happy wife makes for a happy life!😊 I must admit that the 2024 G90 ride, comfort, and tech is amazing!!! I told my wife is I am buying her a black limo drivers cap to wear while driving me around in the back seat! She also has a 2020 G80, which is now our family loaner as we have seven adult children. We also put one of our sons in a G70 (he's my employee, and it's a perk). I have become a big Genesis fan since 2017. I am no longer drinking the S Class and 7 Series koolaid. My wife actually says enjoys the Genesis G90s over any of the S Class and the 7 Series!

@@williebender1895 You're right. I used to own a 2016 Equus, which I later traded for a 2019 Genesis G90. Both vehicles are the direct predecessors of this G90. A colleague of mine owned the last generation G90, which I drove a few times to experience it. Exceptional car. All three predecessors are great offerings, but you could tell something was missing or lagging when compared to segment leaders like the Mercedes S class. But, this new G90 is leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessors. It has closely closed the gap between Genesis and Mercedes. One other thing that I think Mercedes does best, besides interior design, is ambient lighting. They have it down to a science. You can't go wrong with either choice, regardless. I'll be just as happy with the Genesis. The Mercedes interior just has that look at me factor. The fit and finish are likely superior too. Which is expected from an old brand like Mercedes-Benz
