We have some lovely samples of Caol Ila to try today. We both have a soft spot for Caol Ila whiskies and we find they are rarely bad and usually absolutely delicious! It is the biggest producer on Islay, being owned by Diageo, and they are the distillery that sells the most to indy bottlers, thankfully for us!
Here we have a Sherry Cask from The Red Cask Company, who only bottle form first fill sherry casks and a 9 Year Old Rum Cask from Ardent Sprits, a new independent bottling company from Aberdeenshire.

Ooh, coal Ila , yummy yum. The 18 year old reminded of Wrights coal tar soap, both on the nose and palate. My wife loves coal Ila. The more peaty smoke the better. GreT taxting

Barbecue sauce on fruit... as a Texan I'm intrigued and horrified. Still working up on peat - acquired a Single Malts Bunna that is most likely their Moine malt. Doesn't seem offensive enough to be Staoisha, or we are making more progress than expected. Even unpeated, we are excited for the Bunna 2021 CS we just picked up, though. Will give it a go next weekend. Looking forward to the next one. Slaintè!

Usually I prefer bourbon matured caol ila. Bring the lemon note to the palate that I love about caol ila. I tried a sample of a caol ila finished in a moscatel barrel and it was exceptional tropical fruits with salty grilled lemons.

My Nose doesn't pick up the things you two get (it's a bit worn out I think) but my tastes veer towards Jen's for the kind of things I like, but I wish I could also pick up on the sweeter notes that Rachel finds. Super vid as usual, great entertainment as well as informative.

I get what you say about having fave indi bottlers hence I love the Signatory 10 yr Caol Ila. Fruity, BBQ, Smoke and peat also UCF and N/C and 46 % and under £50-00 🙂

If you can still get a bottle, the Cooper's Choice 2008 is brilliant - so is the Ardnahoe bottling of the 11 year old Port Cask - my two favourite Caol Ila's I've tried!

Been eyeing up some red cask Caol Ilas....my whisky storage space is already pretty full though......tough choices. Got a signatory first fill sherry Caol Ila and it's excellent, i'm with Rachel on Caol Ila in sherry being better
