I paid 50 bucks for TE, and it's fantastic

I just got the FT Mirage in today and until you put them together side by side do you realize how much better the FT paint and head sculpt really are. I’ve had the TE Mirage for over a year and wasn’t sure I really needed to swap out but now I’m really happy I did. I get why people love the TE and wouldn’t want to swap especially considering the price, but as this versus showed the FT is a lot better. Great verses as always TM. I think you do these as fairly as possible since we all have personal biases. Just one of the reasons why your KZfaq channel is so great!

Fanstoys figures are rly on another level once you have it in hand. People who dislike FT usually don’t own them. There’s no company even close to their quality.

Wow, I didn't realize just how close FansToys got to the G1 picture until I saw it up next to both characters. Not only did they get the colors right, down to the subtle blue grey knees and outer chest but more importantly and challengingly they got the proportions way more accurate. The narrower hips, thinner upper arms the widening chest from top to bottom and the alternate head is better because of the narrowing head piece. They also have a clear neck which isn't visible with the TE version. They even have details like the light blue grey on the outside of the crotch piece. They REALLY nailed the details on this one. I am shocked that some of the fans have been slow to really acknowledge how good this is after seeing this comparison with the cartoon image.

One thing I want to see and it's too soon for it to happen, is I want to see a water slide sticker sheet from toy hacks to give the fans toys mirage more of a toy accurate decal sheet because just to me I like the look and complexity of all the detailing that's there. I'm an 80s kid and I remember pretty much playing with Star Wars and Transformers for the majority of my childhood, there were other toys, but those were the two that I remember the most vividly, but there was a certain element of class that the G1 toys had in terms of detail that was lost in the cartoon. I personally think the artistic take that they took in the cartoon actually cheapened the genre, and if it weren't for the cartoon, I have a feeling that the G1 series would have lasted longer. I don't think the '80s movie necessarily derailed the series or fandom, but from the third series on and the lack quality that was there was what killed the popularity. The G1 cartoon was largely based on what the toys were designed like, and what the old marvel comic books were like. If they stay truer to the source material, I got a feeling that the G1 run would have lasted longer. The lack of detail to me reminds me of cheap Chinese crap where they cut corners and try to do it as cheaply and easily as they can. So I'm in for that high detail and I would like to see what that looks like on this figure. You know they're jazz looks pretty good, fans toys version of jazz, but he certainly needs that extra detail with all the racing logos and stuff like that because to me that's really going to make that figure pop because to me the cartoon look alone is not going to cut it. But that's me.

I have the same problem with Phantasm as I do with most of the recent FT carbot releases: It looks nice, but it's such a small and expensive side-grade from my existing figure (TE Mirage) that I just don't think it's worth the cash.

While FansToys certainly "looks" better, i'm one of those who feel the Masterpiece line should have kept with the "real world alt mode" vs "as close to cartoon robot mode" so the TE is the one i got. Also a big thing for me is the costs and FansToys overcharges for their figures upto a point it's ridicules and makes it unworthy... atleast for me that is.

Although I recognize the quality of Fans Toys, and I could buy it without any problem, with the TE I have the feeling of having the perfect Mirage and I don't need anything else... I feel the same with the Prime from TE....

Both are really good figures. Very similar, but imo i ever so slightly lean towards FT’s cause its design & aesthetic is less goofy looking than TE’s. Fanstoys has a way of designing a figure that is G1 cartoonish yet more mature and heroic looking. More refined in a way. While the difference is minimal cause TE did a very good job with speed star, I have both but FT is staying in bot mode and TE in going in perm alt mode. I think you cant go wrong with either, its a very subjective choice, so for me Im keeping both! Great review and comparison as usual, thank you. 👍👌

I love Fanstoys, and have most of their offerings….but I have the TE Mirage and i will pass on the FT Mirage without losing any sleep. The TE Mirage is amazing!

I'm really hoping their Jazz somehow knocks the Maketoys outta the park, though it's gonna be tough. Feel like it's gonna be a case like this.

I have TE, and he's awesome. Less money, great quality, and cool transformation.

I mean I'm still not swapping out my MMC Sphinx, but I can at least give my 2￠... Prefer the FT head and rocket as well as the pelvis area and feet, but beyond that I actually highly prefer almost everything else about the TE version. His torso looks less barrel-y (for an extreme example, look at the DX9 Mirage), I think I lean more towards the white instead of baby blue on the chest (and spoiler), and the panels on the sides of his lower legs don't jut up past his knee nearly as much.

Fun fact, I actually really wanted the TE, but it wole our everywhere. And considering TE has apparently gone under, we may not see another re-release. So I "settled" for the FT instead because it and tne MMC were the only MP Mirages available here. I do not regret my purchase one bit. FT really makes a wonderful premium product. I'll miss TE tho. They were only around for such a short while, but man their Prime was SO good it replaced MP-44 in my display.

I believe the main points of why members choice won out is because people don’t feel they need another Mirage.

I just got phantasm and compared in hand to my TE. I thought TE was going to be tough to beat, but the transformation and solid build have me going to FT on this one.

I don't understand Fanstoys decisions, in one bot they give you the toon look and the next bot it's a toy look, pleased keep it consistently, good review tm.

ft-49 im sure is a great figure, but its hyper toon to a fault, especially in the alt mode. TE-01 actually looks like a car. I dont know what is going on with ft-49 cockpit.

Great video! Definitely both nice figures. This is great for the people who missed out on the TE. They both have there Pros and cons. Am just not sure if that FT Mirage is worth $160 though. Especially with the limited Shoulders, that's been happening alot with Fanstoys. The Hoist, Trailbreaker and now Mirage. They really do need to improve in terms of Articulation. To be honest imo that figure should be $90 to $110 tops. As always great video TMR.

Im at that point where my TE Mirage is arriving soon. I was about 8 or 9 when G1 aired and Mirage was one my favs. That's saying a lot cuz I was more a lil'Soundwave and Thundercracker fan. But Mirage had that invisibility trick, a big ass shoulder cannon and was an oh so dope race blue F1style race car. Wow! So....the first thing I tought when I saw those two unidentified bots side by side in the beginning of the video was: God I hope it's not the dwarf on the left. Yay. But...I'm not narrow minded and I'll have to repaint the face. IMO it's the only flaw on the TE. :)

I prefer the PS-01 Sphinx that comes w/ more stuff like hologram driver, parachute, two face plate expressions and you can mount the gun and missile launcher on the left and right side of spoiler that has a tab slot for it to fit.

Yeah, Black Mamba seems to be all in with Aoyi Mech, Transform Element, and Deformation Space. (Apparently, even KuBianBao is in the ranks...which would suck, because KuBianBao disappeared before they could do much else. MP10V, their Hasbro color MP11 Seeker mold KOs (which were fine, but Yes Model did it better with the Takara colors), the CW Megatron KO, the AoE Hound+upgrade kit KO, etc.; they had prototypes of a MP13V, as well as a full color prototype of a FOURTH MP10V (MP10VSG) & a possible MP28D or whatever a downsized MP28 Hot Rod would be. None of the prototypes ever got beyond that stage. The Mirage Wars...can it be said that MMC/Ocular Max & DX9 are by far the losers?? DX9 was okay for its time, but was outclassed upon MMC's release. Likewise, MMC was great for its time, but got outclassed badly once TE came out. But idk...I don't think that FT is beating out TE that much aside from availability.

when I look at these guys sisde by side the one that sticks out the most and reminds me of the cartoon the most is TE Speed Star, I dunno theres something about the figure that feels nostalgic.

Fanstoys has a perfect headsculpt and more compact back which looks exactly like Mirage from the cartoon, but those knees and gaps in the forearms are an eyesore.

I dunno i keep seeing people saying this is hyper toon, i just don't see it, the head for me is way way off, yes i would say the head is more accurate that the TE but it's still way off looking like mirage to me, i think fanstoys head and face sculpts are slowly getting worse and worse, there gears looks pretty awful this don't look that great hitch they had to change at the last minute there magnus looks pretty meh there blaster looks like his had one too many doughnuts, fanstoys used to nail it but lately for me i've seen enough to make me think that they are not on the level they used to be

I'm with you prefer the Fans Toys for the same reasons. Also, the fake spoiler/feet always disturbed me with the TE. Nevertheless, the TE is also very nice.

Really good VS, and you have helped me decide on which one to get. With that said, I see both side of the battle here. Your VC went with TE because of Presence, and how They remember what Mirage looked like...TE just has that Beefier more Herioc look, while FT has the Too Toon look. Also there are very few Negatives about TE, because it's not trying to be perfect. FT though has lots of conflicts because it's trying for the Too Toon look... it misses with the Wizard Sleeves, the chrome missile, inaccurate color knees, and ultra thick bell bottoms. Overall though I do give the Win to FT, just for 1 advantage and that is Hardware and this with Paint washes out TEs Price advantage. I will be buying the FT Mirage, just not this version, I will be waiting for the release that replaces all the Baby Powder Blue with FTs Metalic Silver or Chrome...

is there any diecast in TE?

I really like the FT look. It reminds me of Shaggy with his big pants 😜, which gives him more character (not every robot needs to be a muscle guy) to me. Also the paint with the metallic look is great. But I do prefer the bigger chest of TE, which is more clean looking. All in all I ordered FT Mirage and I will be happy with him. Both look great, but the ever so slightly more expressive face and overall head sculpt of FT gets my vote.

I'm a sucker for the animation look so I replaced my MMC for the fansToys, if the TE had used FT's blue then I probably would've purchased TE.

I thought Fans Toys version might win this one but I did not expect such a crushing victory. I noticed watching this that there are three things I do not like about it: the size of its head and hands, for they seem a little too small, and the knee plates, for they seem a little too wide. That said, it still represents the cartoon version of Mirage overall better than Speed Star, so I have decided to replace my Speed Star Mirage with it.

I think Fanstoys fudged that powder blue color. It's so close to white, it might as well be.

Fanstoys's use of metallic blue just makes it pop. But there are two things I don't like, the head while more cartoon accurate is (for me) just too small. It makes the shoulders disproportionately wide. And second the light blue, on every video and image I have seen it does not look like light blue paint but more like white paint with to few layers and the blue plastic shining through to me. Maybe in hand that's different. Right now I am not sure if I am going to pick this guy up, side by side he is the better looking of the two, mainly due to the blue metallic. Not sure if that is enough for me to replace my TE version. For a two year old figure it does show imo that TE really did a good job.

FT wins it all except two categories - first that the spoilers are obviously meant to be chrome like the G1 toy but that’s hard to animate. And that most of us who want a Mirage already own TE 😊 I’ll be tempted to replace my TE if FT releases a recolor, and especially if it gets KO’d.

This comparison fails in quite a few places. Whilst I try not to accuse people of bias (because that's thrown around rather brazenly these days) and whilst I do find some of the videos on this channel useful, I find that there's often more FansToys bias here than even the self-admitted fanboy that is Bobby. That's fine, and I realise it's impossible to be 100% objective, but when things are outright incorrect, that feels like negligence, if not intentional negligence due to bias. The fact that the dislikes to likes is about 2:1 tells me that a lot of people feel similarly. So that I'm not just posting a whiny comment, I want to point out some of the issues, as objectively as possible (though I won't cover them all because I'd be here all day). Transform Element's Mirage has a LOT more paint on it than pointed out (almost all the blue, if not all of it, is actually painted, same with all the white - about the only stuff not painted is some of the joints such as the knees, and the black parts such as the shoulders). Cartoon accuracy should really be a tie because they both do some things better than others (and really, the wheels thing for FansToys is a huge cheat considering they spin around to sit flush and yet look less accurate when they do so). The "light blue" colour is completely wrong too (putting aside that it's the same colour as their chromed missile launcher, so it should either all be silver or all be light blue - Transform Element got this wrong too, specifically with the grey face). Neither head is spot-on, and both faces have parts that are more accurate than the other. Transformation is debatable too. Sure, the missile launcher on the TE Mirage is annoying, but overall... I find it quite fluid and well-thought-out (except for no weapons storage and those two panels on the front are a bit floppy). I certainly think the TE vehicle is a lot more solid than it was given credit (most of that stuff really requires you to push on it to make it move, such as the wheels, except for the two front flap pieces that don't peg into anything). Also, the TE tyres are definitely rubber (I even took one of the rear tires off, which is very difficult to do), but it's much thicker rubber, almost like a real tyre, rather than the squishy toy-like rubber you usually see (and that FansToys uses). Not that I mind the latter... but it's weird to criticise the tyres for not being as rubbery despite actually being more realistic in that sense. I could go into a lot more detail, especially on the cartoon accuracy category (even ignoring the things that FansToys fails at getting right, such as the arm proportions), but the point is... This comparison is rather inaccurate. I was particularly bothered by the paint thing, because it's just flat-out wrong, and that's honestly why I decided to post this lengthy comment in the first place.

TE is good enough, especially for the price. You got the cash? Get Fanstoys. On a budget? Get TE.

I watch your vids but not your comparisons because when you like a figure or company your biases show to the extreme and I love fans toys but they have lots of flaws too they are the best at applying paint and looking G1 but thats it the mostly fail at articulation and playability. because transform element is the better figure
